  • Thanks for a great performance of the song. I'm glad you included the last two verses. Most people leave them out even though they are what the song is all about.

  • I always put them. It still makes some people feel a bit uncomfortable though.

  • Good voice and good playing. Very nice :)

Best wishes and more fantastic songs like this!

  • Thanks very much.

  • such a simple but powerful song,........and your bluegrass feel is a very nice touch.

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you ,, A fine song done very well

  • Thanks.

  • Great rhythm and strumming. Your voice suits the song well!

  • Thank you.

  • Very nice =). You lay the ukelele very well! I like how you play rithm and music at same time.

  • Thank you.

  • Ken, your videos so great! I love in particular this one and your cover of Dylan's It's All Over Now Baby Blue (you sure do an amazing Dylan cover).

In fact, one of the first ukulele videos I saw was your video review of the Ohana SK-50MG. I ended up buying one as my first ukulele and now I love it dearly, as I would a pet or small child. Since starting playing a few months ago, your videos have been a source of delight and inspiration. Thank you!

  • Thanks so much for such a positive comment, Daniel. I am just this minute thinking about a new Dylan cover.

  • Fantastic! That ukulele has a bright sound with that pick. I love that song. I'm picking up my lil' pineapple when I finish typing.

  • Thanks. It does look like I'm using a pick, but I'm not. I never use one on the ukulele. It's all done with the nails.

  • that was good

  • Thank you.

  • very nice. thank you

  • Thanks.

  • This song brings loads of fond memories... I sang this in primary school back when I was 10 or 12 ... but we changed the location names to local landmarks.

  • Thanks.

  • Nice job, Ken! I'd forgotten about this song until recently when one of my kids sang it as part of a school program. When we got home I went straight to my uke. You gave me a few ideas on how to mix it up a bit more. Thanks for all the videos, and keep it up!!!

  • It is one of my favourite songs. I may record it again soon.

  • Spectacular. A real gem.

  • Hi Coyote. Thanks, I'd forgotten about this one.

    You seemed to enjoy Indiana?

  • Thanks.

  • Thanks for taking me back as a kid....This land isn't ours anymore own by the corrupted government.

  • i REMEMEBR THIS SONG AS A KID

  • It's a beautiful song.

  • Thanks for including the last 2 original stanzas. EVERYONE leaves those out.

As I was walkin'I saw a sign there And that sign said no tress passin But on the other side it didn't say nothin Now THAT side was made for you and me In the squares of the city In the shadow of the steeple Near the relief office I see my people And some are grumblin and some are wonderin If this land's still made for you and me

  • Beautiful, evocative words.

  • The ironic thing to me is that this wasnt initially a "patriotic" song but a song about the depression and thewidening divide between the priveledged and the poor...now everyone leaves out the "unsavory" part ( that is really the most important)

  • I had to comment again, it is just so fine! have you ever thought of doing Rye Cooder on the uke? I know he was a slide guitarist...but just awesome.

  • The only thing I know of his is the music to the film Paris, Texas. I have recently thought I might try using a slide on a uke though.

    Glad you liked it.

  • I have his album called Paradise and Lunch. There is some of his material posted to You Tube. I was thinking of ' Jesus Is On the Main LIne' , and looked it up. There is a clip of this from a performance of his in Holland in the 70's. I used to see him from time to time on TV here, and he is an incredible performer who was a back up to people who were not as good as he was.

  • ROCK IT! :D

  • Thanks.

  • That was fabulous! Just fabulous. Nobody can beat that rendidtion.

  • Wow! Thanks very much.

  • GREAT THANKS

  • thanks, very nice cover

    cheers

  • Ooh, now that was a heart-warming ray of light into a ... well, already sunny day.

    Best regards from Switzerland!

  • Hi. Thanks very much. KEN.

  • What a lively style of playing! And I like how you pluck out the notes of the solo parts without breaking the strum pattern. Great stuff!

  • I'm used to doing it on the guitar, but I find it's actually harder on the ukulele.

And I don't usually play this loudly.

    Thanks

    KEN

  • Lovely dulcimer strum there! It really works well with this tune.

Woody should have played the ukulele. Easier to travel with!

  • I'm finding that it is easier than a guitar to carry about. KEN

  • Hello Friend,

This is one of my favorites, and you sure made me happy listening to it. I've been working on my ukulele, and I got one for my husband. We are having a wonderful time learning together...I play duets with you. Neat, isn't it. I will be playing along with you on this one for sure. You are much better, but give me time. Have a beautiful peaceful day. Karen

  • Thank you Karen, you have a great day too. The ukulele is a fantastic instrument, but I can't persuade my wife to learn.

    KEN
