  • actually brings a tear to my eye this advert, its brilliant

  • Its a shame places like Birmigham exist and places like bradford and tower hamlets. Its like being in afghanistan all over again.

  • is it just me who thinks of Billy Elliot towards the end?!

  • the advert was shot in liverpool

  • 122s for 122 years...

  • they'd never include cameron in an advert depicting britain

  • @abdulfatta Thats becuase what makes our country is not our pasty faced cambridge politicians :P .

  • гениально! И замысел, и исполнение!!!

  • I hope that Hovis doesn´t end in a tragic fate like many british companies

  • like if you were surprised by the boys voice :)

  • that boy lives a long way away from the bakers...

  • @freelandguy121 about 122 years away :P

  • surely the bread would be stale?!

  • this really is a great commercial

  • Wait, why are my eyes leaking? O_o

  • @Antworkk

because you just realized you have a soft spot for history.

  • Love this advert.... Great British production... Bring it back to the TV!

  • i see this advert and our soldiers marching to war i get a tear in my eye, and when and then i hear the Winston Churchill Speech, i'm overcome with silent tears of Patriotism

i truly love this country and the freedom we have,

    God Save Our Queen

  • @TheDalekslayer ohhhhh shut up for fuck sake. Im as patriotic as the next brit but the whole god save the queen shit just needs to be got rid of. As there is no god and the queen is just a regular old woman.

  • @MadmanJoE100 The phrase "God Save The Queen/King" has been around for a LONG time, and no-one wants to change that. Also, it's not about what the queen is, it's about what she represents. So cut it with your shit please.

  • @BiATom411 what does she represent m8 :) ?

  • @BiATom411 I would rather not be represented by a German queen.

  • @Heneghan2k9 Jokes on you because it's a 'country'.

  • Is it weird that I wish I was British just so I could cry at this commercial?

  • @Kaleestraza very weird .............

  • @Kaleestraza Well you shouldn't have much of a problem moving here, nowadays anyone can be British, any sense of national identity, as shown in this advert, is completely gone, hell I don't even know who my neighbours are. ;)

  • @Kaleestraza

lol uk sucks and i am from the uk. i'd rather live in canada or usa. it's in decline

  • @menacinghat Canada I can understand, but the USA? lol...

  • @TheSestren

    yeah,why not?

the uk no longer has any industry and due to the labour party is overun with millions of foreigners, another nail in the british identity. it's grey and always raining. In my town a few months a go a boy got 4 years for a killing tramp, reduced to 2. countries fucked and poor

  • 0:15 women voting protest, 0:21 world war I, 0:41 first motor car, 0:49 world war 2, 1:08 Queen elizabeth coronation celebrations, 1:19 england world cup celebrations 1966, 1:32 1980s mining strike, 1:45 millenium celebrations, 1:55 present 2008

  • Winston on the radio and That Spitfire/Hurricane gets my hairs on end... Love our true brittish pride

  • @nosgothgbr this is british history not just england you fuck

  • @MadmanJoE100 oh sorry. wow, Britain is fucking shit, isn't it! That better, 'you fuck'? XD

  • @nosgothgbr Much better cunt features

  • @MadmanJoE100 good, smelly face

  • Mum: I asked for white

  • Beautiful, just proud to be British. Thank You Hovis

  • What suprises me is why they used the british flag instead of the english flag, when england (EN-GA-LAND!!!) won it!

  • Bang up job... top draw stuff. Kudos to the agency behind this one.

  • This makes me proud to be British.

  • gives me shivers down my spine, especially at the war and churchill speech bit!

    Simply superb. Best advert ever!

  • i am the boy in the advert my name is brian mackie and i live in scotland thanks for the good comments

  • I get chills when the Spitfire flies by.

  • @OakRidgeBob same especially with winston on the radio :)

  • This advert made me cry:')

  • Best ad I've ever seen, and that's beating every guiness ad ever, sorry Jonathan. The original Ridley Scott apple ad, every single coke ad, the Singing in the rain' Golf ad and anything else I can think of. Sensational.

  • That bread must be stale

  • Shame I dont like Hovis :L

  • At the beginning, theres a titanic poster

  • We shall never surrender.

  • Is clever how is clothes subtley change so you barely notice

  • Dad:- Did you remember the milk?

    Kid: errrrrr shi-

  • For those not sure of historical events being portrayed, they are: Suffragette's Movement (women's rights), WW1, The Blitz in WW2, street parties for Queen's Coronation in 1952, liberal youth movement in Sixties, England World Cup champs in 1966, industrial strife in 1980s and finally fireworks heralding the new Millennium :)

  • @mceizia2 there abit from the 70s and 30s aswell

  • @mceizia2 you forgot titanic. :) theres a poster at the start

  • Comment removed

  • excellent advertisement.

  • Being American, I don't get most of the events in this. But it's still mesmerizing.

  • @ACluelessKid 1st scene is women sufferagets campaigning to get the vote, the 2nd scene is first world war troops marching to war, the brief run accross the alley with the car in the street is the 30s and then the 3rd scene is bombed out britain in WW2 the 4th scene is a street party for the Queens coronation in 1953, the 5th scene is 1966 with the car with flags on it celebrating the world cup win, the 6th scene is the striking miners during 1984, and the last is the millenium fireworks in 2000

  • @alexandertory

I've read what they are, but I don't get it as well as someone from Britain would.

  • @ACluelessKid it's good but it shows some very dark periods of history in it. woman being arrested for protesting so they can get democratic rights and vote elections, they didnt get that until 1918, and the troops marching to war with people lining the streets is very powerful, the transition of changes in the advert are brilliant

  • @alexandertory theres abit from the 70s aswell. When he runs in front of that tv store

  • @MadmanJoE100 I think you right, it shows an asian couple....... I think that parts the seventies aswell

  • @alexandertory the asian couple represents the changing face of society that accelrated in the 70s

  • *sniff*

  • love the bit where just after Churchill says 'we will never surrender' a Spitfire flies overhead, makes you proud to be British.

  • this is the best advert ever period

  • took him a long time to go get a loaf lol 100 years.... Still, quicker than homer simpson evolution...

  • 1:03, our finest moment as a nation, just listen to that Merlin purr :)

  • What a lovely advert! Proud to be British! One question.. during the world cup scene, why do they have Union flags, not England flags? I dont know, its 30 years before my time.

  • Wooooo ford cortina

  • I wouldn't necessarily say that things are worse now than they used to be. For instance, in 1912, things like Tuberculosis were something of a hobby for most people...

  • Classic advert there.

  • Great ad, especially for history addicts like me.

Such a pleasure to see how great everything used to look, things may have been worse in some case, better in others.

But everything sure did look a lot better till 1:18.

Every era has its good and bad sides, but at least things used to look better.

  • @nederland4045 I love history too, this ad pretty much shows the events from when my grandad was born till now, yea he didn't have my mum till he was 59! The generations were pretty stretched out

  • @ciccogol92 Yeah that whole internet thing is just a passing fad.

  • 2011 rubbish britain

  • 1912-Titanic 1914-WW1 1940's-First Car 1940's-WW2 1953-The Queens Coronation 1966-Celebrating The World Cup Win 1980's-Miners Strike 2000's-"I'm home mom" "Have you got the milk?" "Oh I forgot it" "Go back 122 years then" and then he does it again
  • @DWFA100

The first car was in the 1920's :) Well done for recognising the Queen's coronation though, most people mistake it for the end of WW2.

  • @BastasGirl ya can just about tell its the coronation by the glimpse of the cake which is a crown on the table of the street party

  • how does a bread advert get 138,022 views!!

  • @maandac2 I assume the bit with the car and flags is the World Cup win?

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful advert!

  • the name of the background music please?

  • This ad should be broadcast overseas to encourage more tourists to visit the UK.

  • I usually hate adverts, but this one is awesome. Shame the bread tastes like cardboard.

  • awesome piece of ad

  • I am not a british, but still proud of this advert

  • Everytime I hear that Winston Churchill speech, I cry.

  • @skyliner654 If only we had Sir Winston Churchill as our Leader today!..:-)

  • What's the music in the background?

  • The tune makes it epic

  • Beautiful advert. Awesome. Especially with Churchills voice and the spitfire, and the victory celebration and the millenium fire works. Gives you a sense of hope and pride for good old England even in these shit times.

  • @redmilkcrate It's a bread advert!!!!!!!!

  • @iconzero it's a good stiff upper lip British bread advert!!! Hahahaha!! It's the stuff it features thats awsome.

  • @redmilkcrate UNITED KINGDOM, love. Remember Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland too. Don't leave us out :L

  • @kwesiidun No. England mate. You see any references to the rest of the United Kingdom in this advert. I don't.

Only winding you up. England wouldn't be the same without its best mates Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and all the banter with it. Hope you're enjoying the rugby fella. I'll be putting a bet on for Wales to thrash France this weekend. You've done alright at the away matches.

  • @redmilkcrate Lol got to love the banter. I'm currently in uni in Lancaster and the amount of sheep jokes I get up here is unbelievable. But I do tell them to go back to the mines that they came out off and that their pie and gravys are going cold :L I've been in and out of the six nations. We lost 26-8! Didn't see the game itself but saw the result on the BBC sport page website! You have the grand slam because of our loss. Lucky England. Suppose. Ah well, there's always the Rugby World Cup :L

  • That kids voice was lot deeper than I expected.

  • Comment removed

  • Im British. And Im proud :D :D :D :D

  • That bread stays fresh an awful long time

  • And NOT a Macdonalds in Sight...Brilliant production

  • this advert wasnt directed by ridley scott (he directed the 1973 one) and i also know that cos my daughter is featured in it...(the girl in the orange dress).....

  • "We shall fight in the fields, on the landing grounds and in the streets, we shall never surrender!"

    - Winston Churchill, what a legend.. :)

  • love the advert, proud to be a brit! it does send shivers down your spine, espesh churchills msg over the radio and the millenium celebrations! fantasticcccc!!!

  • Nowt quite like Hovis, even their adverts

  • Directed by Ridley Scott and definitely proud to be British.

  • This is one of those adverts that is set out and edited and sounds so amazing that it sends a chill down your spine. Corr I'm proud to be British :')

  • Hes like doctor who he can travel through time :P

  • i was almost shocked when i heard the boy's voice at the end! ¦:)

  • Kids mum at the end, "Where the fuck have you been?!"

  • Possibly the best, and my favourite advert of all time! Gives me goosebumps watching it..

  • did anyone else not wonder why a kid who looks like he is 11 has an extremely deep voice?

  • @fabz2115 hes northern

  • @TheDalekslayer Nah not me Proud to be english ;)

  • i know the girl in the yellow coat, rebecca shes one of my best friends love her tbh

    1:18

  • Yeah it's definitely the greatest advert ever buy it's a shame we don't live in any of those eras of Britain as now it's just turning in to a bad country and youths are making it look bad plus mire foreigners coming in is making it anything but BRITAIN!! Still BEST ADVERT EVER!!

  • Even though this ad just depicts the last century, if you think about the last millennium, Britain has pretty much had the most important and interesting history in the world, politically, culturally and socially.

  • long way to go for a loaf of bread...

such a good advert, good to see some people in the buisness still remember the art in making movies and vids and not just cheesy crap

  • lol is it me...or does that kid never grow up...

  • Best advert there has ever been, bar none!

  • @TheDalekslayer But does it make you want to get a loaf of bread?????

  • I love this advert!

  • I can't believe an advert can invoke such emotion! I watch this loads :0)

  • Shit i forgot the cheese

  • Love them fireworks at the end.

  • Stunning advert and makes me so proud of our history, our uniqueness and our Britshness.

  • "We shall NEVER surrender!!" The UK needs an inspiring and transformational leader now, a patriotic polititian that tells the truth. Churchill's speech brings a tear to my eye. :')

  • @fenerbache13 Tear to my eye too mate.

  • g.e.n.i.u.s.... and i agree with @jjmcoates, it brought a tear to my eye as well

  • if this was an american advert, the kid would run through different fast food restaurant getting fatter and fatter along the way.

  • @paddyeth looooool

  • @paddyeth It would be like the last thirty seconds of the 'Right Here, Right Now' video by Fatboy Slim.

  • Hovis-"our bread stays in date for 100 years".

  • i audition for dat part

  • @TheFirehawk44 -.- Go Die

  • goml

  • Sean Stop Looking at me D: XD

  • only watching this because school making me do an exam on it xD

  • @CyberWarrior666 Lies GTFO Newfag

  • @CyberWarrior666 Lob! =D

  • Tune ^^ Love it xD

  • How much has changed in the past 123 years is unbelievable. I wonder what Earth will be like in another 123 years....

  • That bread must stay fresh for a verry long time.

  • Rarely does a advertisement give me goosebumps.

  • For me, this defines the power of an idea, and a brand that's had the guts to stick to a strategy. It's my bet that households all over Britain watched this with joy...and wanted to see it again. A classic.

  • thedalekslayer you've just summed it all up right there and then m8 x

  • That boy hase the deepest voice I have ever heard from a child. "are you home?" YUUUHH

  • @meatisdeliciouse Thats North Brits and Euros for you mate.

I am all to aware that i am barely legiable to someone outside of Britain.

    As my voice is deeeeep!

  • just enjoyable to see the changes throughout the century... makes you wonder what it will be like in 100 years from now as well

  • No wonder it's the most expensive advert in history... Money well spent! :)

  • what is the music used in this advert?

  • the last bit was the best. The dawn of the new millenium, imagine the feeling of running through the night with the sky alight with millions of fireworks exploding. It would be such an amazing feeling, to be in that moment...

  • America did not invent the Television... Britain did. It was craeted by firm named 'Baird' ... by none other that a chap called John Logie Baird.

  • @johngoundry86 yeah right, i hate the way America claims everything, John Logie Baird of Scotland invented the Television, we also actually invented the lightbulb, Joseph Swan of Scotland invented it but Thomas Edison patented it first.

  • Winston Churchill's famous speech always gives me goose bumps!

  • amazing ad, very nostaligic (even if i'm only a nineties child) and touching. a brilliant story of britains history put together in only a couple of minutes, and makes me proud to be british.

one thing though, what is THE MUSIC for this???

  • The single best television advert I've ever witnessed on british TV in my life. I still watch it now and I always have best of both Doorstep!

  • Best advert ever! Great to be English, and British hehe! God when you hear Churchill speak it gives me a shiver hehe

  • dont kid yourselves people this country is a dump
