so when you remove the old manifolds and put new ones on can you simply unbolt them and slide them in and out easily or do you have to remove anything?
@Downfall8888 The old ones come out pretty easily once you get all the bolts removed from the heads and the y-pipe. However, you will most likely have to unbolt the motor mounts and disconnect the suction line from the A/C dryer. The you'll have to jack the motor up from underneath in order to fit the new headers in from the top. I can't speak for all styles of headers, but that is what I had to do for mine.
Nice ride. i have a 84 monte myself. The stock 305 is still in it and wanted to replace the exhaust manifolds with headers and run 2" duals with flowmaster 70s. I was wondering if i have to tap the headers out and install the oxygenn senors and all those things to it like they are on the manifolds?? Any help would be great.
It depends on the headers that you get. If you get long tubes you'll probably have to add an O2 sensor bung. I had to for mine. They cost like $3. You drill a hole and weld the bung on, pretty simple. Some shorty headers and maybe even some long tubes come with it. Some people say you need to run a heated O2 sensor for that, but I never have and the ECM never has a problem.
fuck everyone that says this sounds like shit because it doesn't, yall don't take the fact that the car is inside a shop and the sound echos, anything will sound different, but nice monte man, nothing wrong with keeping it original.
Hi Monteboy, I own a 87 Monte SS myself and am doing a frame up restoration, keeping the 305 in it. my question is to you my frame is rotted out badly at the rear frame rail the right one to be exact and the guy working on my car wants to cut that piece off instead of patching it up and he wants to make a new one... Do you think that is a smart move?

iwanna add headers to ma 85 monte 2...is it spensive?
azulnator 4 years ago
I got my headers free, so all it cost me was gaskets. You can get some cheapo headers for less that $100.

would it sound the same as a v8 cuz my is an 4.2 v6?
azulnator 4 years ago
Not likely. Headers alone won't change the sound very much.
