  • Loved the sculpture pulling string and the wall coming out

  • Ravin's list of artists are extremely well established names. They already have a dedicated market and following internationally. I wouldn't call them 'young artists' to watch out for... it would be like referring to Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin etc as 'young artists' years after they debuted as YBAs!!

  • They are not news already, though, Indian contemporary Art does have some marvelous talents.

Christie's is selling a piece of Raqib Shaw estimated at £500,000 - 700,000 (it is indeed scrumptiously beautiful) in London February and Phillips is selling a piece of Jitish Kallat for £120,000 - 180,000.

Good things don't come cheaply :)

  • she probs has way better craft than your stupid nephew, also, her sculptures were clearly pretty intense, that shit would take a lot of time and devotion, also, the whole, you know, having a concept thing, requires some thought and creativity

  • I haven't even seen the clip yet, but you apparently don't know much about art, or capital letter usement. It doesn't have to matter what the piece of art is, in this case 11 circles, it's the thought behind it, what it represents or expresses. But to find that out you shouldn't have BRAIN DAMAGE, !! lol ...

  • @vanpat1987

your right side brain is not working. i feel bad for you.

  • Every generation decries the 'art' of the following generation.

    However...

It does seem that TED has lost its' ability to bring tangible breakthroughs to a world that desperately needs them.

  • "GODZILLA, YOU DON'T STAND A CHANCE"

  • i agree. this is probably the most boring presentation at TED India

  • @gexman31 go to bed

  • Not you again. Stop spamming videos with your nonsense.

  • Keep up the sleepwalking.

  • @ 01:18 ... ... did anyone else think those were really sperm cells?

  • anyone else getting really sick of that nauseating TED intro music?

  • No problem with Indian, have a problem with the shameless plugging.

    Grow up TED.

  • Brilliant & postive!

  • Thank you so much for bringing these artists to us, its wonderful to see such original pieces.

  • thanks so much for the artist list! on my way to start looking them up

  • These artist were incredible.

  • Awesome art! I really like this video, great stuff!

  • can anyone list the names of these artists so i can research them further? I can not understand indian names enough to sound them out. I would appreciate the correct spelling of the artists. Thanks

  • Bharti kher Balasubramanyan Chitra Ganesh Chitesh (Don't Know His Last Name) NS Harsha (Cant find the next one) Rahkee Shah Rax (or Racks) Media Collected? Subodh Gupta Rajesh Shitar? Hope that helps
  • The artists are: Bharti Kher Balasubramanyan Chitra Ganesh Jitish Kallat N.S Harsha Dhruvi Acharya Raqib Shaw Raqs Media Collective Subodh Gupta Ranjini Shettar
  • some of it was 'kinda' nice, most of it wasn't interesting at all. one billion people, mediocre art.

  • These are ten artists to whom I will be paying no attention whatsoever.

  • I agree... I really don't know much about arts.

I was seriously hoping this one is about science...

  • The first two artists had the best art.

  • This is amazing stuff... I'm not indian (I'm Irish) but I've travelled India extensively. This so captures the spirit of india as it now is. We can learn so much from perspectives of this ancient and rich culture.

  • a few good with a bunch of terrible pieces.

  • the piece at 5:58 is at the moma in san fransisco right now

  • Have any of these artists been featured in the Art21 tv series??

  • bunch of junk for he Western market.

    Hello globalism, goodbye Indian culture

  • *sigh*

The richest cultures were/are born where a lot of other cultures connect/collide/...

So globalism is not always excess capitalism & billboards & fast-food.

Globalism can also enrich cultures worldwide. And with globalism you can have a bigger melting pot to choose your ideas from. Ex: If I had lived 300 years ago, I probably was a Christian. But now I'm taking aspects of all other religions, and mixing them to a new one, that has much more personal meaning. Same goes with art.

  • random?

  • Pretty cool stuff.

    Two of which Im very interested in. 0:39 - 1:27 & 3:56 - 2:23.

Ill save this video in faves & come back to it later for the names.

  • 5 stars, this was great.

  • Perfect timing... I have to do a project on three contemporary indian artists.

  • I have almost zero artistic sense but this @ 5:39 & 5:55 looks really cool..

  • cool
