fer me i have watched the majority of the gundam series, though i havent fully finished zz, chars counterattack and 8th ms team... Zeta was pretty good series but Victory gundam trolled too much fer my opinion... nevertheless Gundam 00 has a sense of uniqueness in comparison to other series because the main theme of "colonies vs earth" is not present anywhere, which is usually one of the central themes to the majority of the Gundam series...it is also a great change of pace towards the series

@fullTankard, but I'm not dismissing the UC timeline. Heck, if the UC timeline wasn't there, 00 and all the other Gundam series I love wouldn't exist. For enemies, well, what Gundam series doesn't have a masked antagonist? From Char to Zechs to Graham, masked antagonists with red MS are pretty much Gundam standard-issue. As for plot points, I can't comment on that because I haven't watched enough of the UC to actually make a discourse on it, point per point. Although for antagonists, really.

@fullTankard, 00 is the most political. In what sense do I base that? Well, base it not on the movies but on the TV seasons. Take a look at how the AEU (EU?) was depicted there: slowly crumbling and with internal issues. Take a look at the real world EU; see the connection? How about the political backlash depicted in the series about the replacement of oil as the primary energy source with solar power? Real world parallels; it's not political because it is reflective of the post-9/11 world.

@DNrSquar3d And all of that was put to the side after about 10 episodes in the fist season. Pissed me off, because I wanted a bit more milking of the conflict between the three nations. They had a good set pieces, but couldn't deliver a story to use them effectively. And then in the second season they bring along the A-Laws(Titans, anyone?) which served nothing, but being an abusive puppet military group. Add into that heavy use of xanatos roulette.

- Compared to 00, unicorn lacks action

- the pilots of unicorn lack personality, where as it is even interesting to watch 00 when there is no action (oke thats a lie)

- the anime is called unicorn

- there is a gundam in it named unicorn

- unicorns are lame

- there is a guy piloting a gundam named unicorn

- there is more strategy, skill and tactic in 00, it exciting

- unicorns are stupid, and so is the anime

@TheSparringPanther Unicorn caters to the UC fans out there. The story has a lot of relevance to Zeon's justification of secession, and gives people a reason to go rewatch the older shows. Plus, you can't deny there were some serious flaws with 00. I mean come on, another split personality character in an anime? And did they really need to pull a twin never mentioned out of their ass? But don't take this to mean I'm completely bashing 00. I enjoyed it, and it was a serious step up from Seed.

Ha ha, while I never watched any of the other gundam series (save for gundam unicorn), I have seen fragments and openings from older series, and I can tell 00 is better than that. At any rate, 00 was far more political. The moment you let you guard down somebody will kill you (trinity brothers, alejandro, revivel, wang liu mei, those guys). I mean, wtf?

MSG and Zeta had a very developed political structure to it. In fact many of the enemies and plot points were directly ripped of from those series. Not to mention the fact 00 was originally going to be set in the UC timeline. You're doing yourself a huge disservice if you don't check out those series.
