  • was the video different .. like super colorful

  • i def love the song.. but i remember seeing it with a different video

  • @iintoxikation yea, there are actually like 4 different videos for this song...the one your thinking about is actually the one I'm looking for..youtube doesnt have it anymore #sadface

  • @ellipticalpattern

    oh i see,, thanks!!

  • the killer vocals of this song are from the man DANIEL MARRIWHEATHER. so how come it says mark ronson , mark ronsen is his producer !

  • @MrColinsmusic yeah the vocals. mark ronson composed this arrangement and MERRIWEATHER sung it.

  • I like the Smiths just as much as the next person but THIS song is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than the original. Are you listening to the music? Are you not feeling the music? In the Smiths song it sounds the same as their other songs.

  • This song reminds me of when Nip/Tuck was still good.

  • HEY SMITH FANS, STFU! THE SUPREMES VERSION OF THIS SONG WAAAAAYYY BETTER THAN THE SMITH VERSION.

  • ok i like this song, I HAVE A QUESTION

is says mark ronson, but who is this guy and why is he singing it, i thought it was mark ronsons song..

  • @redzone83 Mark Ronson is the producer. he doesn't usually sing

  • could someone please tell me who the fuck are Mark Ronson and Daniel Merriweather? ..... do they do anything aside from butchering smiths songs?

  • @kasra333

tell me who the fk is kasra333. do you just go around bitching about something?

  • @xKickTheCAN u can sit on my dilly nigga

  • i wonder whether the fucked up panorama effect is on purpose to accommodate the video (even though it doesn't fit IMO) or somebody messed up the audio track. because i'm pretty i didn't hear that in the original track when they played it on the radio.

  • 2:08 until 2:24 :)

  • this song makes me cry :)

  • Killer how Mark uses two great songs by The Smiths and The Supremes together. Daniel Merriweather 's vocal is great on this. The versions by The Smiths and The Supremes are the best and always will be. But this one is really good in it's own right. Good music is good music doesn't matter where came from.

  • good version, but the smiths makes me have an emotion...this one makes me want to dance more...both are good, but the original is the best...as it usually is

  • Sean Harris!

  • WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY BETTER THEN THE SMITHS!!!!!!! THEY CAN TAKE THEIR SHITTY MUSIC AND SUCK IT!!!! MARK DID A BETTER JOB!!!

  • LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!!

  • This song is always in my head

  • Although this remake isn't something I find incredible, I gotta admire a guy that can do a modern hip-hop/pop version of such an incredible rock alternative song by The Smiths. Finally some originality.

  • @TheMscrp You tell 'em Nan. :D

  • It's really not that bad. Just let that thought sink in for a moment. The burden of trying to hate this song will disappear.

  • What the...?

Incredible. This person's turned a beautiful, emotional song into just another string of meaningless, heavily edited words.

  • The Smiths version. ie, the original is far superior. BUT, a good cover

  • The Smiths version is wank :/ just my opinion...

  • i luivvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv this song old fav <3333

  • Is there another video to this song? I thought there was a girl crying cartoon tears.....

  • @wondermom07 Thats what i thought too. I think i saw it on the side thats it been removed, because youtube saying it wasn't suppoz to be in this country or something allwell.

  • @Revelation345 That's weird. Thanks.

  • I do like this, I love the original as I'm a secret 80s nut... but this is stuck in my head atm :/

  • this is a tune but will never replace the smiths orginal!!!

  • This is absolutely butchery !!!!!!!

  • you cunts... I tried posting this to my profile. You made me look a right cunt as you embeded it... so fuck you pricks... you really are cunts

  • you cunts... I tried posting this to my profile. You made me look a right cunt as you embeded it... so fuck you pricks

  • who can hate this song? huh?

  • Nobody seems to mention that the Supremes sang You keep me hanging on in 1966. That's where The Smiths got their version.

  • @marcusraylewis the version of Mark Ronson content lyrics from the song of "the sumpreme" ...the original song "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" of The smith is written by Morrissey and Marr is not a cover ... : )

  • @NOSTROMOpuntoCL... The inspiration for the song can from "The Supremes" I am aware that Mark Ronson included there you keep me hanging on in his version. I think he saw the similarity and hence his use of it...

  • @NOSTROMOpuntoCL I think the inspiration for the Smiths came from "the supremes" and I am also of the opinion that Ronson realised this hence his inclusion of the supremes in his version.

  • I like both The Smiths and Mark Ronson's version.

  • shitty qualitt

  • I hate the smiths one. this is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better

  • This is too annoying, too much going on. Smiths are better.

  • This to annoying, to much going on. Smiths are better.

  • i remember when this first came out i would listen to it everyday

  • Alright good cover, love it alot.

But strange kinda thing, go watch the video for Jim Jones Revue - High Horse.

So JJR kinda copied this video or something?

  • ronson mixed two good songs and creates a masterpiece...

  • i think its the crack head from harry brown

  • very good cover, it could have turned out worse, but i think i prefer the smiths version better though!

  • marky mark i effing love you.

  • I heard "Stop me" for about the first verse, then the video froze.

  • Heard it before. But better.

  • to me, the original smiths song is infinitely better than this, but thats my opinion.

  • @MrRevenant1978 dont listen to this one then

  • Comment removed

  • this version is soo much better

  • such a tune <3 fuck the haters

  • Weak version

  • Long live the remix - got to fall in love with this song all over again!

  • I STILL LOVE THIS <3

  • He looks like that guy out of hellraiser ..

the father, sounds mean I know but he does o.o

  • Brushing my teeth , and rememberd this song but couldnt remember the name or words of it so had to google it :)

  • I HATE THIS!

  • Meh, oh god. This just shows you how post 1990 is mostly ass. This has NOTHING on the original, it makes me want to puke.

  • @MidouBan i like this better than the original smiths one

  • This is horrible.

  • I like this song since 2007 =)

  • i don't really understand all the fuss. people remake songs all of the time.

  • @megilicious09 well... stop me if you think you've heard this one before... but... the vast majority of people is stupid.

  • @notthere83 lol u no like the remake ?

  • @megilicious09 I think I understand it. I'm beginning to think people are starting to run out of material to write about. I think the same about current movies, as well. That is just my thoughts though.

  • was my favourite song ever at one point

  • Mark Ronson < The smiths

  • everyone is able to play perfectly something that's perfect for its nature....ronson is perfect, but morrissey is heavenly....

  • I like both versions. Music is music, and they are all great artists. Only dicks argue about who did it better, they both get props. Anyone who says that either one of them sucks knows nothing about music, two different genres, and they both sound good.

  • @MrTreiAnderson Uhh no it has to do with the knowledge of which songs and which bands to cover and The Smiths is not one of them. Morrissey;s morose lyrics and the up beat music is what pulls their songs off and people can't just expect to cover them and need to make their own music and learn what they can cover and what they can't. Has nothing to do with being a dick.

  • im about a minute and a half in, sucks. back to the original

  • This is the ish! I loved the original but I love this one even more!

  • 5 seconds and I hate it!

  • @nevcore then you dont know shit about the song

  • FUCK YOU I WORKED ON THE REAL VIDEO THAT THE ARTiSTS DANIEL MERRIWEATHER AND RONSON CHOSE AS WELL AS THE LABEL AND OTHERS THAT YOU CANT TOUCH..

  • I will stop you there Mark/Daniel because I have heard this one before, and it was a lot better that time. That's not to say this version isn't good, it's enjoyable and a fresh take but why would I listen to this when I can just listen to the far superior original?

  • i think the blatant antisemitism shown in this video is disgusting and Hitler would turn in his grave :(

  • love this song....

  • Good cover. But really bad quality, the sound keeps going in and out from each speaker. Anyone know of a better HQ version??

  • I LOVE IT! :0)

  • 401 people couldn't stop

  • fuck Mark Ronson and Merriweather, how can you cover The Smiths in such a poor fashion? fools.

  • @TSbcfc1 hated it that much you went out of ur way to search for it on youtube? whatta fucking eejit

  • @xxxxSLEVINxxxx i didn't search it you immigrant, it was in the suggestions after i watched the original. get your facts right before insulting people.

  • @TSbcfc1 ha you say after labeling me an immigrant? whatta a fecking eejit

  • sick cover

  • shock mark ronson used another song, i know its his style and he enjoys producing them but please mark, fuck off.

  • @hiphopfiend65 what? screw you

    this is pure gold

  • how many ppl watched this as a reference from bboy neguins trailer?

  • what the fuck does this video have to do with the song? the song is good, the video is a sack of shite.

  • @ilifter you should watch the "bboy neguin trailer" version. fukin beautiful.

  • This is much groovier than the original, cheers to mark ronson.

  • hate to say it, but this > original

  • I actually like this version better than Morrissey's. I wonder how much he and Mr. Marr got paid for the use of their song.

  • i like this version, but the smiths are untouchable

  • I like this one better too

  • The Smiths are my favorite band (maybe only next to the Velvet Underground), but I have to say that this is a pretty fine version. It is an interesting interpretation that adds a lot of energy to the original lyrics. I, myself, always think about how I would cover my favorite songs and what I would do to them. Covering songs is one way an artist praises another artist. I don't see a problem other than the fact that it would make some music snobs angry that people don't know it's the smiths'

  • The fact so many people didn't know this was a cover, doesn't say anything about the quality of the music, it says a lot about the number of people who haven't heard The Smiths. And it really is not genius to rework a song, if The Smiths reworked a song by Daniel Merriweather, I really doubt as many people would say its genius. It would just sound odd. Genius is a term people just use to worship their favourite artists.

  • what is even worse is that many people don't know that The Smiths version is a cover of the Supremes 'You keep me hanging on" from 1966.

  • @DanMortham Dunno dude, i agree that the majority of people over use the expressions like "genious", and i wouldn't go that far to describe this song. However, you cant say its easy to do a good cover of an already known song, precicely due to the originals already established fan base. Ronson adds a new twist to songs that just makes them different, even though its a cover i dunno how fair it is to compare definitively which ones "better then the other". Just different strokes for diff folks.

  • True Genius!! To take a song and strip it down almost only its lyrical backbone and rebuild it and produce a song with the perfection that almost everyone thinks it was an original production... Wow! I knew I heard this song before but because it sounds so well put together it almost makes you doubt your own knowledge.

(Try to sing the original in your head and see how far you get lol!!)

A true example that there is many ways to do one thing.

  • i remember hearing this version and feeling so very close to it, long before i fell in love with the smiths.. and now i can't help but think it was destiny. is that odd? i often feel like that about music, like there's some meaning behind the songs that i hear at certain times. it would be lovely to think..have you ever played that game? when you turn on the radio and the song that comes up is the answer to your question? silly, but i think of it as a very serendipity-like thing also.

  • can any one tell me who the actor in the vid is please looks like frank( shameless) is it his bro??????ta love the vid

  • This version and the smiths original are 2 very different tunes, they only share the lyrics and thats it, both versions are amazing.

  • Whenever I hear this, all I want to do is to break out my copy of Strangeways Here We Come, and listen to the proper original to cleanse my ears.

  • THIS THIEVING FUCKER OWES THE SMITHS.

  • it's like nails on a chalkboard. just can't see the WHY

  • wow, i didnt even know this was a cover, i thought it was original. this song is awesome though

  • I definitely enjoy The Smiths one over this, not that this is bad, it just does nothing for me.

  • after listened to the joiners telling about the smiths's version (searched for and listened to its) i can realize that the smiths version sounds an old atmosphere that makes remember the generation of 70's. It's not personal, but mark ronson got to make a new song and it's seen very creative and modern. one of the best songs i heard in 2009!

  • I've heard this one before (: The Smiths

  • both songs are equally amazing but far from the same.

  • Mumford & Sons? It's The Smiths? :S Ahhh well, this version is really cool (:

  • I enjoyed this before I realised it was a massive mumford & sons ripoff.

  • @420dogowner Saaaaaaaame ;)

  • Replay, again and again and again and again and again

    This song is SO good

  • OH.MY.GOD., i never though i was going to say this about a THE SMITHS song but i have admit that this is a great version. NOT THE SMITHS..but it is a fantastic, sticky and contagious cover. well done...

  • The smith's version sounds really unrefined compared to this.

  • I like The Smiths version better, but I don't think they can really be compared. I think both are good.

  • trippiest video ever

  • luv this song :)

  • Fuck Mark Ronson, stay true to your roots.

  • @HazzerHazzerHazzer now now now..be nice. i IDOLIZE THE SMITHS AND WILL FOREVER...i have 4 THE SMITHS tattooes to prove it, but ADMIT IT..it is a very decent version!

  • I like his voice...but I much prefer The Smiths version, period.

  • This version blows. Totally lacks the emotion Morrissey put in the original version. But so is the curse for the majority of covers.

  • @JeffreeMalloy you're wrong. ronson took a bad tune, and made it a SONG.

  • @LBPThe2nd

You're entitled to your opinion and your bad grammar.

  • Plan B's version is my fav. One of my Fav recordings. Great song in any version tho.

  • Great in their own right. I agree. Ronson's is better orchestrated In my opinion. But it is meant to be different. I loved The Smiths back in the 80's. Still do. What is the point to argueing?? Music is personal taste. We are all different.

  • all of you guys arguing here are stupid, both versions are great in there own right.

  • This not even comes close to the original of the Smith. The hole atmosphere and feeling of the song is not present anymore.

  • @ferry34 hole atmosphere? It's not like people are forcing you to listen to this cover, if you prefer the original then just listen to that instead of dissing Mark Ronson.

  • i think i've heard this one before.

  • To say one version is better than the other isn't correct. Both appeal to different people, and different people have different tastes. Just because you like something, and someone else doesn't, it doesn't make that person wrong. All just a matter of taste.

  • the original by The Smiths, kicks the living shit out of this dribble. Mark Ronson, go & get yourself an original thought for your head,

  • this version is amazing for breakdance!!!!

  • Prefer the original by The Smiths to be honest.

  • What The Phuck?

  • Hang the DJ!

  • his best song. incredible sensation and imagination. i like artist that invents art. the rest is copying.

  • 378 people prefer The Smiths.

  • @CalamityKessel you say that like its a bad thing when the original smiths version is clearly better

  • @CalamityKessel damn right

  • doesn't even nearly do the smiths justice. poor. poor.

  • Catch Mark Ronson at Together NYE: The 10th Anniversary @ Brixton Academy, Friday 31st December 2010. Other headline acts include Annie Mac, Fake Blood, Herve, and Zinc. For more information: together-club(dot)co(dot)uk

  • am i the only person who prefers this version... yh sure classic song watevr this is 10X better in my opinion its nice and slower the singing is great the instruments suit the kind of song.... good work for smiths making these lyrics and stuff but mark ronson made it perfect

  • @danielloeyblee No you're not the only person! I, too, prefer this version. People are on here saying Mark is stealing peoples songs and passing them off as his own. He is not stealing anything from anyone. I'm sure he has had full permission to re-work the songs. And it's not as if he's trying to say he is the original artist. He's just putting his own twist on songs he loves. And I think on this track he did a damned good job! :)

  • @kkly27 agreed, i say you can cover sons as much as u like as long as u make it half decent, not just for money

  • @kkly27

It's not totally unreasonable to say that he is passing them off as his own songs, I mean this song is called 'Stop Me' right, whereas the original is 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before", not exactly fully acknowledging the Smiths is he.

  • @eaterHP It IS unreasonable to say he's passing them off as his own songs because he is not! Stop Me is from the album "Version" which is full of cover songs. The fact he called the album Version says it all. They are his versions/interpretations of other peoples songs.

  • @kkly27

I didn't say it wasn't unreasonable, I just said it wasn't "totally', I just think if you are covering a song you should use the actual name

  • @eaterHP Well that's the decision of the artist boyo

  • @danielloeyblee chances are you probably heard this version first, people are prone to prefer the first version they hear, it is the same for me, the original just doesn't seem right to me lol

  • @danielloeyblee How can you even compare this to the smiths original? His voice is nowhere near as good as morrisseys, plus the beat they've added has nothing on one of Jonny Marrs riffs.

  • Comment removed

  • @danielloeyblee Nah, Ronson ruined it. Morissey's vocals are as perfect as they come, and Marr's guitar work make the track in my opinion. Still, we'll agree to disagree :-)

  • @danielloeyblee

I think what you say is too true, it just goes to show how vesatile The Smiths lyrics are? I just love the bass and brass, gives it a whole different feel!

  • @danielloeyblee no. i prefer this version, although i think the original was great. Thats the goal of a cover version, to respect the original and add a little something to it.

  • @danielloeyblee NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!! I'm sorry but the smiths version is much better in every single way. Morrisseys voice is " Hair standing up on the back of your neck" good! & Johnny Marrs is simply one of the most talented guitarists in the world....just ask Peter Buck from REM or Noel Gallagher! Respect to Mark Ronson for having Excelent musical taste I'm guessing he must be a smiths fan to have covered this song, it's Quite a good effort but not to be compared with the origional

  • @danielloeyblee

no, you are not. this version is fucking great

  • Fucking horrible voice. I like the background music. I'm sorry though his singing SUCKS compared to Morrisey

  • no smiths. u can here the autotuning.

  • Butchered.
