@vegafarkas Glad you told us--i thought it was jewish quarter of budapest!-now i know!--its very good, nontheless, i wish i knew when these guys get together to play--I'd love to be there w/my accordion! ty
Does anybody know if this video was filmed in Hungary? I ask this because the streets seem to be from Israel and the Hebrew characters make me think is not
so is this traditional hungarian or just specific to hungarian jews??? ...i'm kind of learning about Hungary now...how could one tell if a predecessor was hungarian or hungarian jewish?...i know that must sound dumb, I'm sorry..but my grandmother came to america as an orphan, magyar (hungarian) but she was quiet n didnt talk about anything and so no one in my family knows if she may have been jewish.
i try to help you with your grandmother-many jews emigrated to America in the 1930s before the second WW.Many of them had typical jewish names (sounds like german names) or had changed their names.
It sounds similar to Heyser Bulgar and even may called a regional verion of this bulgar dance. Let us not lead ourselves into temptation to call the renowned Brandwein's version THE model (invariantus) though. It happened just by a historic occasion that Brandwein's (i.e. HIS regional) version has become mostly recognized as what you call "Heyser Bulgar".
+1! Bob is one of the finest klezmer musicians of our time. Sadly, no man is a prophet is his own country (if Hungary may be called so - for the American-born musician and ethnomusicologist). But for everyone who has seykhl, neshome and simply ears - it is obvious that Bob's work, both scholarly and perfmance, is simply outstanding and rare.
it's amazing, the klezmer is played beautiful by those klezmer musicians. espacialy in hungary, it sounds like trance. a true spiritual experiance i must say. shalom aleichem. Arnhem Holland
Oriental? Of course! Isn't Judaism an Asiatic religion? Isn't holy Jerusalem in Asia? Doesn't the chanting of the chazzan (cantor) in the synogogue sound oriental?
Klezmer music has alot of turkish/near asian influences. Most of it is written in harmonic minor-ish scales with a sharp 7th. This is the 'oriental' feel you are talking about.
What an AMAZING rhythm! Is a Hungarian Gardon being played,or is that rhythm played just on the milkchurn?I also LOVE the "psychedelic" video effects - last time my vision has felt like this, was when I did a gig some years ago - after swigging 2 double measures of Absynth!;o)

@vegafarkas Rossz az angol helyesírásod. Ez nagyobb gáz ránk nézve, mint ez a művészileg komolyan értékelhető zene/videó.

Sounds oriental? Because this klezmer is mixed with Hungarian folk music. And Hungarians are from the East. That's all.
recsegvefingokecske 3 years ago
opps! I wasn't aware that Hungary was part of the Orient. Thought it was beside Austria, in the middle of Europe.

Hungarians came to Pannonia (now Hungary) from the Central Asia circa VII century C.E.
