  • Great memories! The village is just not the same.

  • Does anyone know if Ali's drum still exists in playable condition?

  • Which one was your father? I grew up on the music of the Feenjon Group. I have Jerusalem of Gold and the Feenjon Goes Greek. My aunt used to go to the Cafe...

  • Thank you for posting this. I used to wait on tables there. Does anyone know what happened to Judy Greenberg and Isolte?

  • Hello Noam and Thank you for the memories. They sure look young in the video :-).

    Barry

  • I used to listen to the Feenjon Group all the time in the 60s. Such a treat to find them here. Thank you!!!

  • I grew up on those songs. My aunt and uncle used to go to the Feenjon and unfortunately passed away before they could take me to there. You can get a lot of the music through the Smithsonian, including Jerusalem of Gold and The Feenjon Goes Greek.

  • Thank you, Noam, for posting these clips. I used to hang out at the Feenjon back in the mid-to-late '70s--such fun! I remember being saddened by the news of both your dad's and Ali's deaths; they were both so young (especially Ali).

Whatever happened to Albert, the guy who used to belly dance?

  • I miss the Feenjon! There was no place like it on earth!

  • @EndChickensAsKaporos , you said it! I miss that time so much!

  • Noam this is great. Your father was friends with my dad and as a gift, Manny and the Feenjon group played at my Bar Mitzvah celebration. They came up to westchester where our reception took place... the band complete with belly dancers and sword dancing.... I will never forget it...

  • Noam, this is awesome! regards from Buenos Aires

  • awesome... I used to go to the Feenjon with my parents on weekends when I was a kid! last time I was there (in the 90s), Eliezer told me that Ali had died.. :( A couple of years ago, my aunt sent me a note that Manny had died...

  • My aunt used to go the Feenjon Cafe. I have Jerusalem of Gold and The Feenjon Goes Greek, you can get them from the Smithosonian who has all the Monitor tapes.

  • I have a recording of these guys on vinyl total fluke that I found it but I totally love it.

  • this just makes u wanna get up and start dancing

  • What a blast! Reading about 60s musicians and yet again Cafe Wha?, I happened on a page about the amazing Ali, at the bottom it mentioned some videos on youtube, but I *never* thought I'd see Manny (your dad of course) from way back then, rocking out like it's been done for eons. Incredible.

  • What a joy! I spent so many happy times at the Feenjon and the Olive Tree. Thank you to whoever put this up. I was one of the regulars at this wonderful club. I can't say that I enjoyed anything much more than I did spending the evening into the morning at the Feenjon. Thank you!

  • Brings back fabulous memories.

  • I used to go to the Feenjon in the late '70s and early '80s as well...when Avram Pengas, Gaby Shoshan, Ali, Margalit, and Yoel Sharabi played. I met Aric Sinai there and Izhar Cohen as well. Wonderful evenings which I have sorely missed over the years. Thanks for posting this, and post more if you have anything at all!

  • I was looking for the Feenjon group. They were listed as..... Menachem Dworman, Hevron Levi, Avram Grobard, Tasso Marvis. You haven't heard of the group lately? Some of them passed on if you know any of them... Also does the Cafe Feenjon still exist?

  • Hi Waddle, I know Eliazer passed on first, Ali died I believe in 1985 or 86.Menachem also passed away. Quite naturally, the group or club no longer exists for the music aspect. It later became the cafe wha where Ray Romano & Chris Rock got started. I have no clue what's there now as I haven't been back in over a decade!Avram Pengas was playing in Abdallahs (Ali's brother & my first husband) restaurant. That too was eons ago. Don't know much more to tell you, just hold on to these memories.

  • This was really cool to see.....I love it.

  • Thanks for the videos! My parents actually got married today (June 21 1968) and celebrated at the Feejon, where they met. (Beni Yedidya and Jackie). I just showed them these videos.

This Is my girlfriends youttube account fyi. I remember them taking me to the feenjon as a kid all through the 70's and how excited I would be hearing Ali, your dad and Eliezer etc..Still love the music and still have a tape of it. Even have a video of Ali at the worlds fair at Flushing Meadow , pre feejon. David

  • You have a video of Ali at the world's fair? Would you consider posting it? - Larry

  • HI Larry.. Its on an old 8 millimeter reel and its not that long of a clip.. Do you know my parents?

  • Hey... i remember you as a kid! Daddy was so proud of you.I sure do miss the times I spent @ the Feenjon. The music was unbeatable.

I used to get up and dance allk the time. I was married to Ali's brother Abdallah.

All my Feenjon albums are cracked or broken. Tell me is there any way I can replace them?

Do you have any videos of Joel Sharabi & Rivka Zohar singing?

Thanks for sharing and bringing back some bitter-sweet memories.

  • I used to go there in the late '70s. Good times, good times. Also went to DH too at that time and El Avram and Sirocco's.

  • Manny was your Dad? I was sorry to learn of his passing. I first heard the group in '67, when it was in the old location and he had Margalit singing with him - it was weird being in the club during the 6-day war. Then of course I was a regular from 72 to 74

when Avram and Eleazar and Ali were playing - also I remember when Danny Ben Israel was there ... and of course the dancers who hung out on Tuesday nights - Sabah, Carla, Anahid ...

    Ou sont les neiges d'antan?

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Those were great times. We were privileged to hear these wonderful musicians. They gave so much that has been built on.

  • Thank you for posting the clips, they are great!! While I am so happy to see them, it also makes me sad to see the ones we've lost. I had so many great times in Feenjon in the 70's and 80's. There will never be another place like it for me!!

If there are any tapes or videos availabe for sale, please let me know. Thanks.

  • Amazing clip

    Many thanks for posting it.

I would love to have a copy of a better quality clip

    regards
