  • For those who look for the Synthex sound in a VSTI software coounterpart, just take a look at the Xils-Lab Synthix emulation :) Lots of audio demos on their site.

  • fantastic demo track!!!! great instrument!!! for me the best........

  • If I buy one of these synths does it come with complimentary Jean Michel poster?

  • Cooool!!!

  • I know this may sound silly, and we know who the winner is. But how would you compare the sound of the AN-1X to the Synthex? Looking for something that sounds as close as possible without spending 3,000+.

  • @rezisehtnys the AN1x is a good synth, if you know how to program it you can get some very powerful and varied sounds, including some convincing laser harp type sounds. The AN1x was discontinued over 10 years ago, second hand prices should be around £300-500. I've been using mine as a MIDI master keyboard and workhorse for over 10 years and its never let me down. The Synthex is great, I love it to bits, but to me its more of a collectors item and not as usable as the AN1x despite its power.

  • @oxygene65

Thanks for the response. I've been considering an AN-1X for some time now, and I've seen them go for under $300 on eBay. So a heck of a deal it seems. Currently I have a Roland JX-8P and it sounds similar to the Synthex I suppose, just doesn't have a bandpass filter. You need to post some more Synthex demos. =D

  • @rezisehtnys Why dont you buy ' Zero G Nostalgia '...

Great piece of software which you can control via MIDI Device & It has the Elka Synthex Laser Harp Patch pre-loaded, plus lots of eminent & ARP sounds too.... :)

  • @RyanWorsley1990

Will have to look into it, thanks.

  • Great sound on that Synthex! Perfect reproduction of 3rd rendezvous!

  • The blue one is a Yamaha An1x?

  • Yep, spot on. I use it as my master keyboard. Cant beat Yamaha keyboards for quality and durability.

  • Call me eagle eye ;-) No seriously, I have one of these myself tho I've yet to figure it out. I also own a Korg 01/W and find the keys somewhat more solid and nice to play on than the Yamaha.

  • I've got far too much money and I want to get rid of some of it: it's making my matress uncomfortable. Now, what should I spend my money on - a Synthex or a Stylophone? Hmm...

  • Stylophone, if its the one Rolf Harris used, and much more instant gratification.

  • David bowie used a stylophone. There's actually something worse, "Major Morgan". See weltenschule.de tablehooters for a lowdown on some terrible keyboards, the worst ever is the Hinghong Golden Camel. See Miniorgan for a rip off of the casio VL1 with only two ear splitting sounds. Cheapskates circuit bend to get exciting sounds...Casionova has a guide to electronic music on the cheap!

  • Don't answer an ad on Gumtree UK for a Synthex. I did and suspect the person was trying to con me. He couldn't tell me about the synth's history, send a video or music when I asked, said he couldn't meet, he'd gone abroad and his brother had it but no contact or name for him. If I sent a down payment of £750 by Western Union, his brother would post it. When I refused, he got really snotty and accused me of not having the funds and said I was a timewaster. How do I report him?

  • This ELKA is a megarare synth, only 1850 pieces worldwide.

  • @Pergiacomo

    Megarare - Roland System 700... Only ~41 pieces :)

Elka is just so hard to find because it sounds phenomenal and people don't sell them... Also, most will need to be fully recapped and have all CMOS replaced - so keep that in mind if you search for one.

  • Incredible sound. I've never seen one of these synths, but would buy one in a heartbeat.

  • Love that sound...i'm crying :)

  • Nice demo BTW, sorry to go off topic....Jarre's laser harp is tweaked from the preset but still pretty close.

You won't see two band pass filters on a Jup 8 ! Not had anything to beat the Synthex yet - replacing the Jup 8 I used to have.

  • oberheim xpander, but then im biased ;-)

the matrix 12 COULD beat it, if only it wasnt so overtaxed as it is, but the xpander..yup

  • Re armalyte's coment below. I've had two Synthex's and virtually all parts are obtainable and servicable in my experience to date.

  • HI mate...i actually got your original message, which youve deleted above..the one where you used the word rubbish ;-)

Im very good friends with one of the best techs in the business, and I said what i said with the best of intentions and advice from him. If i didnt know him, it'd have cost a fortune to fix some of the stuff in my own studio.

  • No prob, it was only deleted as it appeared in the wrong place and didn't appear as a reply...! I've now undeleted it for continuity... :)

Get your tech to speak to Synth Repair Servs in the UK. The Synthex contains components still available and they've serviced both of mine to 100% working order with no significant issues.

  • nice performance

  • no crap at all man! very well done.

  • Being a big Jarre fan also, I've lusted after a Synthex for years, the cheapest I came across was about 6 years ago and the guy still wanted £2500. I didn't buy it, and came away with a Jupiter 8 which I regrettably sold last year :(

There was one on ebay a while back for a buy it now of USD 12000!!! Who pays that for one?

And you're video isn't that crap....you should hear some of my renditions, and I'm suppsedly classically trained!

    Keep it up!!

  • superb rendition!

Synthex's are a real pain to fix and find in good nick. Youre lucky dude, youve got one in near mint condition.

  • Rubbish. I've had two and virtually all parts are obtainable and servicable.

  • i want to see a video of elka ek-44

  • How about an EM-44?

  • no i want alka

  • The EM-44 is an EK-44 without the keyboard.

  • Dude...not as crap as you say...finally, you are about to make me like jm jarre/& i didn't even know he has fans in great britain

  • Jarre has at least one fan in America, too. :)

  • Great , you have it !!!

  • Nicely done.

  • Fantastic!

I want an Elka Synthex too :)

  • Poster = Dead giveaway that you are a real Jarre Fan.

Wait, is that a CS1x to your left? :D

    Nicely played.

  • Yep, definately a real Jarre fan ! Nah its an AN1x, looks very similar to the CS1x, but completely different sound engine in it.

  • Fantastic

  • hi, loved the sound...though would it be possible to post another run of the synthex. Possibly with the sequencer and a lot of dial tweaking?

  • yep, give me some time and I'll put up some more synthex vids.

  • This is just excellent! I am trying to find the laser harp sound for my Korg TR, but this is just amazing! Thanks for posting!

  • Buddy, don't listen to that guy saying you need ear training, i have heard that particular track plenty of times over the last 21 years since i bought the rendez vous album back in 1986, and you were just about perfect.... keep it coming :)

  • Synthex is unbelievable.

  • Dude, you should do some ear training... most of notes are wrong!!!

  • What part of "Sorry for the crap version of Third Rendezvous and poor sound quality" do people not understand ? This wasnt meant to be a note for note perfect cover, it was to demonstrate the synthex. I did it off the top of my head in one take. If you want perfect covers, listen to the original track. Obviously I look forward to hearing your note for note perfect cover version.

  • ahhh the synthex... damn... it sounds so great.

  • O.O

  • Fantastic :-)

  • an uninspiring performance with many timing issues andwrong noter

  • Awesome man... damn, you are really great... Incredible performance

  • I enjoyed this a lot. Great performance.

  • Really great! The other synth is a CS1X ain't?

  • The synth I'm playing the pad sound on is a Yammy AN1x, but the sound is actually coming from the JV1080.

  • sweet demo... ive also got a synthex. however, i have to replace the battery that powers the memory.. finally died after all these years! lol i love my synth tho... however its a beast to lug around. very heavy.

  • I'm gonna build my own harp, and I'd LOVE to have a Synthex to be its voice. but they're rare and expensive.

    *envy*

  • Excellent !

    Try the laser harp then

  • Jean Michel Jarres laser harp sound comes from this very synth - Elka Synthex.

Damn, Im jelous. What I would give to get my hands on a Synthex.
