because they're an indie-rock band. as much as it pains me to say it, indie bands can never be famous. and im not saying that to be mean, i have almost every one of their songs and i only totally despise two, its just a sad fact of life...

what i mean, is they aren't talked about a lot(and this is actually for both of your replies). I guess FAMOUS isn't the right word, but popular. You can't go to a hip, dancy place and expect people to be talking about indie-rock

its because there an independent record lable not mainstream its wat makes them indie there still very popular just more behind the scenes

that's not always true. modest mouse made it big. just because the shins aren't in the tabloids or (always) on mtv, doesn't mean they aren't popular.

they're not too far from mainstream success at all [aside from just the rock scene]. i heard "sea legs" on a mainstream radio station in northern nj at my job last month.

They showed the Phantom Limb vid. on Vh1 and MTV a lot. It was on the top ten of MTV Overdrive videos for indie music around the time Wincing was released.

they're not just constantly shoved down your throat :D. considering the mainstream music media these days, its actually a compliment to not be "famous", or at least in comparison with most artists out today. they do, however, deserve all the success and recognition they get. if more bands got big like them, the media would be forced to showcase talent and good taste again, rather than sell shit solely for profit.
