The last time I heard that song had to have been over 40 years ago. My dad had a reel-to-reel tape with a bunch of Oscar Brand's Air Force songs. This was one of them. Great to hear it again!
As a 27 year Air Force veteran, this song brings back memories although this is not the original version. The island pictured is Johnston Atoll. It was a seaplane base prior to WWII, but the PBYs were too exposed there, so they were removed.
It was enlarged to 1/4 mile wide and 11/2 mile long.
Early ballistic missle tests were launched from there. The last of our nerve and mustard gasses were stored & destroyed there. The island has been razed and is now a bird sanctuary. Memories.
I grew up in the Air Force, hearing my dad and mom sing that as we traveled around the country (minus the rough language) and all of us kids joined in on the chorus.
Nice vid. I have heard bits and pieces of that song from a buddy's dad, it's nice to hear the whole thing. That's also a good picture of the reclaimed Johnston Atoll.
On the F-86D Sabre Dog, it's not "rockets radar and AV," but "rockets radar and AB," as in afterburner, which the 86Ds had for quicker response times and better climb on their point defense interceptor missions. Or maybe Brand got it wrong, I don't know.

First learned this song and other bawdy drinking songs while in Air Force flight training way back in 1959 - class of 61 Delta

Glad to see a video of Oscar Brand's wartime stuff, but a slight nitpick.
That RF-84 barely counts as an F-84. B-
