  • How did you do to know that she is William Mcdowell's wife ? If they are married then their life myst be strange because it does not seems like that for me. And unless i am mistaking William Mcdowell is Christian. What about her ?

  • @moikressly William and Gladys are mormons they have been married for 11 years. She was mormon first he later joined the church.

  • Beautiful Gladys, Giving Hope to all of Us.

  • She's such an inspiration !!! love u sister knight<3

  • Brigham Young was a prophet of God. My only explanation of the quotes you quoted is that Christ said the comforter shall teach you the truth of all things. This comforter is the Holy Ghost . James 1:5 says if any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God who giveth to all men liberally ,but let him ask in faith nothing wavering . I asked God to know if Joseph Smith ,Brigham Young and all the Mormon prophets were truly prophets of the Lord. The spirit revealed to me little by little that they are His

  • @brian8793

Unfortunately Brigham Young didn't feel the same way about blacks.

  • @brian8793 In fact this was one of the reasons Mormons were persecuted, because they were admantly against slavery at a time when many people were still getting wealthy off of having slaves.

  • @brian8793 absolutely, and as a woman I have never felt so honoured and loved by men as I have being a member of this church. It truly is Jesus's church.

  • what a beautiful whole message .... for EVERYONE. This church teaches by love and example.

  • I wish christians would celebrate Jesus and each other as Christians brothers and sisters instead of always taking pot shots at each other and how they worship God. Remember God said "Your Ways Are Not My Ways Nor Are Your Thoughts My Thoughts. Lets stop trying to second guess Him and concertrate on the person in the mirror (ourselves) and being the best representives of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. we can be. The song was beautiful, let's just celebrate that.

  • I was raised Mormon and in very fact as soon as I was born placed between two of black babies for viewing. I only mention this being white because it is symbolic of how I was raised to love of all races exactly the same. It was my Mormon faith and mother that taught me to love all equally. To my shock and surprise I first experienced bigotry when I experienced that against my own faith from other so-called "Christian" members much later in life. I could not understand Christians doing this.

  • Cool.... SING IT GLADY'S!!

  • Thanks for posting,,Lovely song. God Bless

  • @brian8793 yes totally true!

  • Once again and we see why she is who and what she is!!!!

  • @brian8793 This is true. Also, Womens suffrage(right to vote) was practiced in Mormon communities before it was constitutionally accepted.

  • Wow, all the comments about Christianity and Mormonism are interesting. However, this is a very good song about the love of Jesus. The video is about Gladys Knight singing a song. She is a wonderful singer. Listen to the pure and simple message. I don't claim to know much about Mormonism for I am a Christian, so I won't comment about it. I just love this beautiful song and Ms. Knight is an excellent singer. "He's coming back again", sings Gladys. Even so, come Lord Jesus. Amen

  • @judrayton

Hey brother, the definition of a christian is the worship of Jesus Christ- mormons base their entire life to him..

Seperating them from christians is like the pope seperating the protestants and martin luther from christ, it is an old device of controlling ones flock. If you lack knowledge about something seek it. Even the Buddha did this. This is key to Knowing that your faith is based on more than religious training like the pharosees and saduces.

    .

  • @brian8793

Well, I admire your "enthusiasm and your loyalty. However, there are many prophets, teachers, scribes, priest, preachers and etc in a myriad of different faith traditions and denominational persuasions that put their life on the line for a cause, belief and a set of principals; Paul, Stephen, Martin Luther, Ghandi, Joan of Arc, Joseph Smith, Martin Luther King, Malcom X and the list goes on!!!

  • @brian8793

Furthermore, I am sure you are aware that the church is a product of its cultural surroundings. As a result, much of which you accuse other churches of is also what the Morman church is guilty off.

  • @brian8793

The "traditional interpretation" of the Bible does not support a "different set of scriptures. You may argue that all scriptures written before and during the Christ era were not included in the canoon. However, it is an extradinary claim to suggest that Christ simply did on the American Continent what he did in Asia Minar and Africa.

  • @brian8793

What do you think people did before your Morman church was started? The Morman churches did not start that long ago and several denoms are hundreds of years older then you. (I guess they were false worshipers?) In addition, you talk about different translations of the Bible. The Morman church is in no position to critique any denomination. You all go FAR BEYOND interpretations. You all invented your own DAMN Bible; Book of Mormon.

  • @brian8793

Most of the historic Black churches and denoms were formed post-civil war 1860-1870; National Bapt, African Methodist Episcopal (AME), Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) churches. The reason God led these men to start these denoms his b/c the mostly white church (Mormon) had these revelations against Blacks.

  • @brian8793

    @brian8793

With all do respect this is a bunch of shit! I do not believe in your church prophecies or youre their so-called revelations. All are non-scriptural. The United Church of Christ ordained the first woman and Black back in the 1800's.

  • @brian8793

In addition, I you still have not answered my other questions, where was the Morman church during; civil war, civil rights protest and etc? You have been largely silent on the majority of social issues concerning Blks.

  • @brian8793

You have really skirted around some of these responses I gave to you. You indicated that you would walk with MLK if you could. I am not denying that. However, Im sayin that during the civil rights protest Martin would not even have been elgible for the priesthood.

  • @brian8793

Im a Italian American and 24years old. And im sorry to Disappoint you . Black churches ISN'T RACIST, Ive feel more welcome in TO WHAT YOU REFER BLACK CHURCH. All is welcomed to me the racist is the Ignorance, Of the white's there welcome attend but they dont. Thats why it seem's no white's are there . But look closely you will see me there. No offence i feel closer to GOD in the Gospel church. they dont matta what color u are , We are one in CHURCH

  • @brian8793

The fact that Joseph Smith never had slaves is irrelevant. On the major issues concerning Blks, I have not heard from the Morman church. However, they still ride bikes thru my community and want me to join their church.

  • @brian8793 I understand that. However, the Morman church has not been very active in Social Justice for all people. Where were you in the civil rights era? Martin came from the Blk Bapt church. He was a brilliant scholar, preacher & noble peace prize winner. If MLK were Morman he would never have even been allowed to be a Reverand.

  • Many Blk denoms including the African Methodist Episcapals predate much of your doctrine. Why would I leave my own institution to be treated like 2nd class for yours???

  • There may be a lot of positive things about the Morman church including but certainly not limited to the focus on family and relationships. However, until you take seriously the need for inclusion on all levels, you are going to have a difficult time with getting Blacks to join. Blks dont want to join an org. to sit at the "back of the bus". Remember, we run our own religions denoms and institution.

  • I don't remember the Morman church championing any cause for the improvement and struggles of Black people. However, I do remember a Morman minister telling me2 Nephi 5:21 where formerly white people (the passage also says their white skin was very fair and delightsome) are cursed by God with black skin as a punishment. To be black is to be cursed and to be cursed is to be black.

  • It was the Black Church mainly that Black Baptist that were at the forefront of every struggle for African American achievement and improvement including the civil war and civil rights. In addition, MOST of the Black colleges were founded by Black church institutions, mostly prominent Black ministers fought to desegregate schools, media and continues to be at the forefront of those struggles.

  • In addition, Brigham Young himself, wouldnt want me at his univ. considering all of the neg things that he said about Bk people. MY MESSAGE THE MORMAN CHURCH, "No thanks, I would rather continue to be apart of my hand clapping, foot stomping Baptist church that occassionally sings spirituals and anthems" than be apart of an institution that only wants my membership in the pews, but not in the leadership!

  • I don't think that Blacks and Mormanism can be reconcilled until you all take every negative reference of Blacks being the cursed race of cain. It wasn't until recently that you allowed blacks into the priesthood. In addition, the music in the morman church (excluding this video) is just to damn white. I am not interested in just being a black face in a white organization.

  • Gladys is amazing. The Brown family (as in Brown vs. The Topeka Board of Education that ended segregation in public schools) are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (The Mormons). The famed Black Panther, Eldridge Cleaver, also converted to Mormonism. Of all of the people in the world who would know racist, these people would and they didn't see it in the Mormon Church.

  • The Church of Jesus Christ and the members of the Church have the capacity to love that is unmatched. The immense love I have felt from other Latter-day Saints has been tremendous and unconditional. They have shown that love is far greater than judgment. Joseph Smith the prophet spoke of that as well when he spoke about how love and the heart are what changes people to turn and follow Jesus Christ. Love is the greatest power in all of the universe!

  • People are afraid to know truth. My church is true. <3

  • Beautiful, her music is the only thing that matters and it is beautiful and touching. Such an amazing women could never be involved with anything less than truth and love. What a testimony to be shared.

  • mfalmekali, I must ask you.. what religion are you? We are told to love everyone no matter what race, background, medical issues.. You can say what you want about our religion but when it all comes down to it, we all are made in GOD'S image. It makes me sad to see that some people cant get past racism and move on in life to realize that hey we are all equal. There is a lot to learn in this life, so lets move on in life..

  • Brother I'm afraid you are misinformed. Our church was not founded on racism. Joseph Smith ordained Elijah Abel an Elder in 1836, and in D&C 101:77 is Revealed

79: Therefore, it is not right that any man should be in bondage one to another. God bless you and your family. :)

  • Comment removed

  • meidaboyz I am so glad you know that about Elder Elijah Abel. I've seen his grave and those of his family surrounding him there and the words etched in stone are powerful. I used to visit the SLC Cemetery after Church sometimes when I lived in Salt Lake. I found it to be a very sacred place and I learned so much from that place. There is a tremendous amount of fascinating and inspiring history there. That place is truly a library & history of peoples lives and a storehouse of memories.

  • Look, we are all the same in God's eyes. We are made in his image. If you think that this chruch is founded on racism.. you're quite wrong. So let me ask you this..

  • Do the bapist, methodist, prodistant, or any other religion believe that their church was founded on racism? No, They believe that we are all equal in God's eyes. We were never racist at any point in our history. Yea, its possible that some people were ok we still have racism in any the world today, however; people are able to look past that and realize okay, you know what God made us all, he knows better than anyone what goes on in our hearts.

  • Comment removed

  • just remember this in the end we are all the same thing: HUMAN. have you ever thought of it that way?

  • heres a suggestion, why dont you ask gladys knight why she joined the church. ill bet she'll give you the same answer.

  • Comment removed

  • and you kno wat i am only 17 and trying not to make the same mistakes our previous generations have made. I choose to rise above racism! do you choose to rise above it too? theres a quote by betty wright(a black singer), ' if you learn this lesson, how to forgive, a longer and a better life you'll live" sometimes you just got to let go. to make things better for our next generation. think about it.

  • Comment removed

  • Mormons do not believe that blacks come from the devil. I'm sorry but you are misinformed

  • Comment removed

  • Wrong on all counts.

Blacks could join the Church all along, and were never said to be the children of the devil (Mormonism believes that Satan can never have children of his own, because he never had and will never have a body).

Until the late 1970s, blacks could not hold the priesthood, but remember that for most of the Bible, only the Tribe of Levi could hold it at all, and only the descendants of Aaron could achieve the rank of Priest.

Why? We don't know. God's will, and all that.

  • Hey now.. look I am a black mormon and you really are misinformed. We join the church because we have learned things that people don't understand, and also because we feel of the spirit and know of Christ's love for us. FYI there were blacks before the 70's if you want I can send you tons of info regarding them.

  • Stop bringing up the topic of racism our generation has moved on! your just being an instigator of racism like the white men in the past!

  • Comment removed

  • why do you insist on wasting your time? It is people like you ,who only see the difference in people, that make this world an awful place! cant u just let go of the hatred? sure he may have said that, but you got to remember that brigham's generation is different from ours, and not all mormons are white! you let hatred get in the way of your judgement! one more thing I AM NOT A WHITE MORMON, yet all I feel in the church is love!

  • Comment removed

  • sure theres racism nowadays but it wasnt as bad as back then. u dont see black people being killed or hanged now do you? our generation has changed or have you failed to notice this? only those who set their minds upon racism are the ones that are guilty of it. so are gonna let something brigham young said over a century ago get to you? if so thats sad. i would think that some blacks would think above such things.

  • I am samoan and I feel the same way too! I joined the church because it fulfilled my spiritual needs, not for racial reasons!

  • Comment removed

  • what is the truth? dat only a few people had racial problems. the truth is dat some people (like myself ) believe dat love transcends such things and is made to make people stronger. and der is alot of racism against samoans trust me, but i dont let that get in the way of my search for purpose,

  • Yea, exactly.. I am giving up 18 months of my life to serve my heavenly father and I dont regret being a mormon no matter what anyone says. I love the chruch with all my heart and I cant picture my life without it. I actually know someone from samoa.. (FYI) He served his first few months in my area.. He is so cool!

  • My daughter just retur5ned from her mission in May. She returned a stronger woman and stronger in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you serve in the right spirit it is an experience that will positively effect the rest of your life. DO not waste time trying to set the record straight with the Mormon Haters. They only wish to sucker you into a Bible Bash which only Satan wins. Follow Paul's advise & do not contend over the Gospel just preach it to those who wish to hear it. Have a great mission!

  • At one time only the sons of Levi were permitted to hold the priesthood. I guess God is the racist one...

Also, explain why a few key people involved in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950's and 1960's are Mormon. Africans don't seem to have a problem with Mormonism, but other Christian churches do. Mormons are a threat to pastor's income.

  • alethia This is the MORMON GOD CURSING AMERICAN INDIANS BLACK--->

"...the Lord God did cause a skin of BLACKNESS to come upon them (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 5:21)"

This is the MORMON GOD CURSING AFRICANS BLACK --->

"..the LORD shall CURSE the land..A BLACKNESS came upon all the(BLACK AFRICANS)..of Canaan, that they were despised among all people..(Moses7:8)"

This is the MORMON GODS PROPHET,SEER and REVELATOR He knows the FUTURE!

Joseph Smith "...rebellious NIGGERS..." (Millennial Star,22:602)"

  • ...Canaan,the son of Ham...hence the NEGRO or AFRICAN RACE...

    (LDS MORMON APOSTLE Orson Hyde,

    Nauvoo.April 27th,1845,printed in Liverpool, page 30)

24...(BLACK AFRICAN)Ham,sprang that race which preserved the CURSE in the land(LDS Abraham1:23-24)

"...the LORD shall CURSE the land..A BLACKNESS came upon all the(BLACK AFRICANS)...of Canaan...(LDS Moses7:8)"

  • Nauvoochristian you are an igonorant mouth. You are spouting lies, but I say consider the source. It's expected. Gladys Knight has not only a beautiful voice, but a beautiful spirit and a strong testimony. Suppose she got her knowledge of the gospel from a cracker jack box as you seem to have done with you knowledge? She's an awesome lady!

  • I am Black/Indian and a Mormon for over 30 years I know the truth about our religion it is racist and every thing I put here you can read inside THE BOOK OF MORMON and PEARL OF GREAT PRICE go read. You want to know why blacks cant hold the priesthood read ABRAHAM 1:24-27 you want to know if the seed of Cain is black go read MOSES 7:8 7:22,you want to read why the Indians are black & DARK skinned go read Alma 3:6,2 Nephi 5:21,Jacob 3:5you want to see Indians turn WHITE read 3 Nephi 2:15,-RACIST-

  • the reason you may see hatred is because of these twisted philosophies of race, per your references. really sad and surprising any self respecting person of color could rationalize following something so truly demeaning, but people can do what they like.

  • the same voice, amazing .....another treasure of America

  • Although I don't agree with all of the doctrine that the mormons preach, I do believe they go to heaven because as I understand their belief in salvation is similar to most protestant Christians.

  • Does anyone know if there's a score for this music?? love it!! so powerful!!!

  • Is she a Seven Day Adventist?

  • I saw he when she came to our stake this christmas. It brought me to tears because the spirit the SUV choir brought was so powerful. Simply amazing

  • i am a african american LDS i am only 19 but i know this is the true church we beliebve jesus died on our cross for our sins i love her choir!

  • WOW! I went to this fireside last night and it is amazing!!!

My favorite song is probably I am a Child of God..I like how it was all jazzy and stuff!! If the SUV choir comes to your area, do NOT MISS IT!!!!!

  • Ive always loved this womans voice. My dad used to listen to her when he was drunk. Im so glad she is LDS. Well so am I. Shes a beautiful singer (If I was ur woman)!!love her

  • Our church is growing in Africa and other african american cities. I say great!!!!! I am white and would love nothing better to see people of color come unto Christ and accept the Lords true church. Cain was cursed by God, he lied to God andkilled his brother! It doesn't mean theyre cursed forever. They are welcome.Every snday I'm surronded by a sea of white, I'd love more diversity, bring it on

  • What kind of bunk is that? I'm LDS and I know that that blacks had the curse of Cain was never official doctrine. It was some folklore that predated the restoration.

And what the heck is an "african american city"?

  • This is truly a sad event given the history of the LDS church's teaching concerning Blacks as cursed and our black skin as the mark of cain. The LDS church has a different God, a different Christ and a different gospel. May the Lord grant her repentance.

  • and you are the first one without sin to cast a stone?even if what you're saying were true, are we the ones to judge?

  • you OBVIOUSLY have NO IDEA what our beliefs are "We believe in God the eternal fateher and in his son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost" would you like me to send some missionaries over to clear up your misconceptions???

  • She is fantastic saw her today on Byu tv & she certainly has a great testimony of the Mormon Church

  • GBU

  • I wish gladys would split rev. al sharptung a new one.

  • fantastic singer thanks

  • The most under-appreciated of the great singers of her era - a truly beautiful soul that is finally getting some of her due - and that voice - like sweet soul molasses - is still a stunner!

  • She's amazing! I've always loved her, from the start. She is truly blessed!

  • Wow is right. To sound that good from a cheap PA mic is pretty much impossible. Amazing talent.

  • wooow, this is very touching,

her voice control is fantastic, and her expression let you undertstand the song even better.

    this woman is a treasure.

  • Amazing, does this womans voice ever change?

  • Simbly BEAUTIFUL!! She's the only one who's voices has not changed!!!
