Really good tips! There's also a Wordpress theme that is optimised for increased CTR. Not just that but it also switches ad placements on each page refresh to combat "ad blindness". But the easiest way to increase your adsense earnings is to increase your traffic, and nothing beats SEO when it comes to doing that. @aditya94pareek Yes, it does violate the terms. Remember, this is not free money Google is just giving away for clicks. Someone is paying Google for that ad and every click costs them money. So if someone just clicks an ad just for "charity" you're technically wasting someone's advertising budget.

Hey Lisa,

I've found that having a banner (336 x 280) over on the left hand side of my aritcles. I do agree the 728 x 90 is also very effective. Compared to promoting affiliate products where the person has to buy the product, Adsense is easy money...you can't beat good keywords that pay...pay per click rocks!!

@aldeentorres If you think about it in a real world example, traffic is how many cars there are on a certain road. Now imagine that that road was your website (video, blog etc) and the cars are your visitors. Most things to do with the internet are logical. Hope that helps :)

The only problem with the heat map, is that you can't put ads above the content on blogs.

@lisa3876 interesting that they discourage it though. Average blogger won't go out of their way to learn CSS. The tools they give you are locked down, you can change the size,but that's about it. Almost as if they are betting on a blogger living with those options, and never generating serious ad revenue.

@ukendcx2000 Who discourages it? What blog theme do you use? The reason blogs use CSS is that it makes it easy to manage common areas of the blog. Once you learn it it's a Godsend. Some themes make it easier to update than others.

@RetributionAngel By far it's worth it. The time I spend testing ads is minimal compared to my earnings. I also have long-term advertisers as well. So I think you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Good question!
