  • great band great film

  • @Stevenx514 Only 1 of them SMITHS SMITHS AND SMITHS

  • Manchester hasn't really changed except freezing cold call centres have replaced factories as workhouses - Those Rickenbacker chords rise above that. though, so long live Marr - and as for that yearn, that croon, those lyrics...I think it'd e an outsider's view to say that The Smiths are the best ever, but not an arrogant or valid one.

  • eric got a criss lolxxx raz

  • I love this song, and I love Smiths!!!!!

    I miss the 80;s...

  • The Smiths, the best, no 2nd or 3rd? I'd say as a rock fan of that specific generation of "looking for a new kind of music," The Smiths had a counterpart, as good or better and that was REM! There was also another little band from the same time period that had 3 monster first, second and third albums, U2...a lesser known band that may have been better then them all...The Chameleons UK!

  • @nativesspoken chameleons made great songs! rem i dont know if they would be a counterpart though some songs sound vaguely similar. could kinda hear some radio free europe here. whenever i say i like the smiths people always follow with "you like the cure?"

  • The Smioths Ever4 !

  • Always go back to them. Their music is timeless. I remember hearing 'Hand in Glove', it was and still is my favorite love song.

  • no maaa esta mejor la ecenografia in the house..!!:D

  • this is SUCH a good movie and SUCH a good song :)

  • Exellent song! Best band ever :)

  • the line " i dreamt about you last night and i fell out of bed twice" from the song reel around the foutain was taken from this film.

  • oh manchester is wonderful oh manchester is wonderful

  • 0:16 = Zac Efron and Zooey Deschanel's love child.

  • The actress looks like Elijah Wood a little. great video though.

  • The smiths , joy division , stone roses.

  • usually i'll play a smiths song at a party and people will be...ichh...but everyone always loves this song and william it was really nothing people go nuts.

  • best film best song if they dare touch a hair on your head ill fight to the last breath.

  • one of the greatest talents to come out of the UK...Without a doubt..

  • @cadinalrule All of the talent do.

  • awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What's the name of the movie?

  • @netresman A Taste of Honey

  • i love the smiths. :)

  • Great song, but an absolutely superb idea of using 'A Taste Of Honey' as a visual metaphor for the song,Morrissey would heartily approve!

  • "And if the people stare, then the people stare, Oh! I really dont know and I really dont care! I think this is a lovely line, and speaks for any couple, who's love is criticised by others, be it multi-racial, Homosexual, or just generally dis-approved of.

  • Greece. Number one band in my heart...

  • i saw this movie. the girl gets pregnant, lives with a gay guy. not for those reasons but the movie i believe had 3 or 4 stars.

  • You have to give to The Moz and Marr what a song writing team The Best.

  • Hand in feces, The sun shines out of our cocks!

  • i really dont know and i really dont care

  • This is class and the Joy Too!!!!!!

  • This is definitely one of my favorite songs right here by The Smiths. I just started listening to The Smiths a couple of months ago, how Morrisey channels his vocals with the guitar playing of Johnny Marr is amazing.

  • The Beatles, The Smiths, (Joy Division/New Order), R.E.M. ... can't place one before the other...

  • What movie is this from..??

  • @23HappyApples A Taste Of Honey

  • @23HappyApples

  • yes nice to see felow Ian Curtis fans Love this era thankyou to all in here!

  • Smiths

    Joy Division

    Cure

  • agreed

  • Love, Sly & The Family Stone, Luomo, Slick Rick, Big L, Serge Gainsbourg, Pete Rock, Joker, Wiley, Acen, Metalheadz.

There are lots of great white 'indie' bands, but can we have just a bit of variety here?!?

  • 1. The Smiths

    2. New Order

    3. The Jesus And Mary Chain

  • The Smiths

    Joy Division

    Warsaw

  • the smiths

    interpol

  • Favourite Smiths has got to be "Suffer Little Children".... Forgot James in previous post... "Out To Get You"...

  • Let's join the choir... The Smiths, Tindersticks, Stone Roses, Boo Radleys, Charlatans, Primal Scream, Eels, Elbow...

  • greatest band ever is Queens of the Stone Age, then Joy Division, then Wire, then Nirvana, the White Stripes

  • not queens of the stone age there good but not the top

  • thats subjective as fuck. i know at least one person that hates each of those bands.

  • @notrealy180217 you don't know anyone who hates Wire, you probably haven't even listened to them. And of course it's subjective moron, they are my personal picks. There is obviously no objective best band ever you fucking idiot.

  • of course there are people who hate wire, why are you so convinced i dont know one of them? just because thats the only band on your list that wasnt included doesnt mean its not subjective. all music is. im just saying yours is especially

  • so what are urs then. The Smiths and whole else?!?

  • love the smiths so much. the only band that means more to me is the beatles.

  • the vid goes so well with the song. classic

  • @mikeyFTP Did anyone notice Old Trafford football ground`s floodlight (Man United) behind the bloke`s left shoulder at 2:28 when waving goodbye. He was on Barton swing bridge over the Bridgewater canal in Trafford Park, :o)

  • well spotted...and the chimney of Barton Power Station at 3:02

  • @mikeyFTP Bee's knees definitely!

  • This without doubt is the best band ever!!! No other has been so original...2nd band has to be The Stone Roses though.. ...

  • has to be the best song ever written and by the best band ever ,

  • vid and song perfexction

  • One of my favourite bands!!!!

  • amazing, is it weird that i mainly listen to the smiths during or before a break up, i guess in my current relationship its really weird because we both like the smiths,,, and lets just say this thang aint workin too well lolz

  • Very nice!

  • wow, amazing, thanks for the info morrissey1985 =)

  • they had a 'quality' that's uneniable! i discovered Moz in 1995 and then the group! - what moments of new worlds! those lyrics ! :) -

  • thank you a lot for the info morrissey1985 - much appreciated indeed! - i see you are a fan - i am too - where are you from ? (greece)

  • Australia.

No one I knew had heard of The Smiths, so I really missed sharing my thoughts and feelings about their songs. That moment has passed... I find it hard to move on from The Smiths. Everything else is second best.

  • Book: A Taste Of Honey, by Shelagh Delaney .

    Some quotes:

"It's a long time, six months."

"I'll probably never see you again. I know it."

"That river, it's the colour of lead."

"I'm not sorry and I'm not glad."

"Oh well, the dream's gone, but the baby's real enough."

  • Yeah, I read about this in one of the Smiths' books, there's undoubtedly more but it's fantastic

  • guys, what's this film in the video? - i'd like info - pls!

  • It's called ... A Taste of Honey. One of Morrissey 's favourites. Some lyrics of The Smiths can be traced to this movie.

  • what are you serious?? smiths the best band ever

  • No, the lead singer is a dude.

  • WHAT???????

  • I'm in utter shock like.

  • This song is just incredible, without a doubt my favourite Smiths song. It makes me want to cry and smile at the same time.

  • still ill is mine.

  • NM i read a lower comment that explains

  • anyone know what this song is about? can anyone tell me?

  • its about being in love and not caring about what others think of your relationship. love is blind and dangerous

  • Fuck Kings of Leon!

The Cure, joy division and Placebo are okay. Never heard of the rest.

  • If you like this you are pretty likely to like Morrisey (Obviously) and Radiohead. The Bends era is remarkably similar.

  • If you like this you may like... A Band Called Bert

Moshi kore o sukidesu, A Band Called Bert mo o sukidesu

  • Great video for the song. Fits very well.

  • Well the song is rumored to be of a homosexual relationship. But that has never been proven. What i meant is the fact that the movie takes place with a white woman and a blake male. Which is what the movie is about. In the movie the relationship takes place in a time where interracial relationships are looked down on. Thus the lyrics "We can go wherever we please And everything depends upon

How near you stand to me" make total sense. =)

  • baha bump kids DAC on youtube

  • One of the best Smiths songs..but all their songs are brilliant!

  • Excellent song, which proves that the Smiths are a great band.

  • Free British Cinema is arguably one off the most relevant moments in film history. I'm quite keen to this more than nouvelle vague or neorealismo; noin deutschen or free american cinema

  • amazing harmony!!!

  • I thank "The Smiths" for "hand in glove", I'd say it's my fav, but then I'll hear another Smiths and go the same thing.

  • Brilliant match of music to image.

  • Smiths.... ah, perfection.

  • Whatever happened to Rita Tushingham? She was such a good actress, and such a star back in the 60's.

  • Okay....listen...in the fucking movie the lines..."The child is gone , but the baby is real" And I think we all know what Smith's song this is from....come on Moz fans...

  • Wouldn't be "The dream has gone, but the baby is real" at the movie??

  • You're going to die alone

  • So are you.

  • As will we all.

  • Unfortunately, he forgot to extricate the crutch from your arse. By the way, youre probably better off avoiding big words like commend if you cant spell placard or use apostrophes correctly.

  • you're?

  • moz liked this film.

he quoted some of his lyrics like

"I drempt about you last night - fell out of bed twice".

"dream has gone, but the baby's real"

    from this movie.

  • The good life is out there, somewhere

  • absolutely brilliant!!

  • This is amazing.

  • Sheila take a bow would have been more apt for A Taste Of Honey tribute

  • top tune end of

  • One of Noel Gallaghers favourite tunes

  • what is so noteworthy about this noel gallagher besides being another smiths fan?

  • Comment removed

  • Floryboonda,

You are either the queen of understatement or your knowledge of British music over the last twenty years is very scant indeed. Have a google.

  • SallyV- thanks for the google idea; after wading through a dump of "His quotes" I specified by changing my search to i.gallagers' accomplishments. I had no idea I was listening to oasis when listening to the radio on my way to/from work. yet non of their stuff hit me in the gut like most of the smiths songs on the first hearing.

  • Still a pretty important and famous band. And Noel is an important and famous musician

  • The sun shines out of our behinds.

  • Brilliant video editing, fair play!

  • The girl in this video is so beautiful.Since i was little i want to live in England in a place like that,Brick house, grey skies,Being warm only by a fire place, beautiful sea side,I am a foreigner from Brazil, living in England post war as like that? I found extremely charming, believe me i would give it up the sunny but Phony Miami-south beach live style, for real and honest sea side english town.

  • Fancy a swap?? ;-)

  • you would for about 5 minutes, then you wouldn't.........trust me!

  • The most romantic song ever.

  • This was really excellent.

  • Brilliantly edited.

  • thankyou

  • Does our little Morrissey want to be Jo or Geoff, eh???

  • does it matter? lol

  • the smiths; my newest obsession! absolutely loveeeee it

  • It is alaways something magical about the smiths videos,so great black white, pictures english life from the 1950's,post war, middle class hardship, and it was all made in 1985

  • Cool Idea mate, cool band

  • the perfect song for the perfect film, the genre of the film and where its set are best decribed by morrissey in all of his songs from the smiths, to his solo stuff, films like this and " saturday night sunday morning " really portrayed northern life and the taboo subjects and issues raised,

  • I just love The Smiths. Can't get enough. Proper tune.

  • Class video, Class song, Class film..5 stars my friend.
