These are just OK for someone who wants to not file (or who doesn't know how to) but if you're looking for a good sharpener this ain't it... I bought one because is was on a $20 special, It doesn't hold the chain as it should (tight), like most HF tools they are chezzy and sloppy, but OK for the occasional cutter which I am not, I'm getting the Speed Sharp Star Grinder.
@docrw For $300 it should be a helluva lot better. To justify that price I'd have to sharpen chains for other people and that means time and that means earning less. It is a great machine but how many chains in a year would you have to sharpen to justify $300?
@equsnarnd I like sharp chain so I sharpen weekly. I don't like when things are cheap, it's frustrating. I sharpen for years with a dremel tool and it does a better job, but I'm not using round file chain today.
You can get it on sale for $29 (a new chain will cost you that much) and it works great. I resharpened my chain over 4 times before I got a new one,(chain not sharpener), well worth it
I have some very nice tools, snap-on, Mac, craftsman etc. but my favorite set of wrenches are 2 sets of harbor frt's speed ratcheting wrenches, one set sae, & one metric, I use these things constantly and abuse them they hold up work well and were dirt cheap. I just ordered 2 mor sets I love them!
I used this for the first time today. The instructions were a little confusing at first but I finally figured it out. (Before I saw this video.) After a little practice it was very easy to use. I will only need to sharpen two chains to pay for it. Great deal.
@th19940305....The build quality is certainly not top of the line. The knobs are a little flimsy but I think for the price it is good. I've used it twice so far and I like it. I would recommend it.
There seems to be no way to grind the riker/leveler. Is this not part of sharpening a chain?

this is a good video showing how to sharpen the saw blade. alternative is to go to home depot and buy another.

@wangbungal People who own and use chainsaws a lot and isn't a sucker paying for a new chain when it could be sharpened and still used?
