For the longest time i was so sad that Aerith died, I was really angry cause i felt she was meant to be with Cloud. But after finding out more of her background, and playing Crisis Core, I LOVE Zack. I think its so beautiful when Aerith is walking towards Zack at the end of Advant Children.

Yes, at one point in her life. He was her first boyfriend, and then when she breaks up with him, a while after she meets Cloud. Due to an experiment Cloud gained Zack's memories and Aerith while on a date with Cloud claims that she wants to meet the "real" Cloud. Not the pro-Zack-Cloud. Hope this helps.
