where are all the true country music artists at any more....wish i lived in the true era. i was born in 1981 and these songs tear me up and give me goosebumps because IT'S REAL COUNTRY!
This was a hit in the early 80s when Alabama burst onto the charts. The success of Alabama and a few others from that period overshadowed Vern. In another post, someone mentioned his unique voice. He was called "The Voice" by his colleagues. I listen to this great song and compare it to the crap that made up the 2011 ACM Awards Show . The show must have been produced by someone who doesn't like country music. Too many of today's artists are country by trade - not in heart. Thanks for this song.
I saw Vern open for George Jones and Hank Jr. at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium around 81-82, not long after this song came out, his first radio hit. Nothing else after his few songs even mattered that night. (Ok, well, maybe when Toy Caldwell came out and played a song w/ Hank.)
Vern was simply one of the best true entertainers out there who never got the recognition he truly deserved. Verns voice was so Unique he could harmonize with anyone and make them sound good. RIP VERN you are truly missed by Country Music Fans
