great song album. the us release is differnt from the uk, no backstreet girl. the mono mix of this is longer than this with another refrain at 1;50 mark. anyone have it? the us mono mix sounds better in general because it must have been mixed poorly.
In hindsight, the Stones recorded more great songs in 1967 than their scouse rivals. We Love You, She's a Rainbow, Ruby Tuesday, Let's spend the night together, Dandelion, Back Street Girl, She Smiled Sweetly, 2,000 Light Years From Home, Cool Calm and Collected, Something happened to me yesterday, Miss Amanda Jones, I could go on - much better than any Sergeant Pooper's Lonely Fart's Blub Banned could ever hope to match. Stones 1 Beatles 0, final whistle blown, end of!
People often say that The stones were ripping off the stones, and trying to keep up with them. I don't see it that way. The 60's were just a progressive period for music over all. I mean blues rock emerged, psychedelic rock emerged, Soul music was emerging, Funk Music was emerging, and things were just changing. Some bands just changed quicker than others, but it was just the what was going on then influencing the music. So they didn't rip the beatlesoff, they were going with the flow.
@noblesiner I agree! The period from late 1964 through 1967 is the most innovative time in the history of the Rock era. Nobody at the upper level of the genre was "ripping off" anyone; they were openly sharing their ideas to see where it could go. Beatles, Stones, Byrds, Who, Dylan (and many others) were feeding off of each other and taking popular music to new heights. When you heard echoes from one artist in the work of another, it wasn't a ripoff (like it is today); it was a tip of the hat!
Love the harpsichord on this track. Been listening to this lp non-stop for the last few days in my car and has grown on me. It's a shame that Between The Buttons was sandwiched between the legendary Revolver and Sgt. Pepper albums (ouch!). Just saying.
@crapple009 ....good point. It seems that when ever the Stones released a masterpiece.....the Beatles release a album that's just a little better. This track is fabulous!
I love the Between the Buttons album, I s a shame that is so underrated , N forgotten by many all I can say is my favourite & is pure Brit Pop at its Best.

@Kohntarkosz I used to listen to BTB on vinyl...dunno what happened to it. As I recall, alot of the cuts had Nicky Hopkins doing session keyboards...he could have easily done the vibes part RIP Nicky
Dunno if it would have been Nicky. I know he was a top flight keyboardist but I've never heard of him playing chromatic percussion, though I imagine with a little bit of practice, he could have gotten the part down quickly.
The reason I suggest that it might be Brian Jones is he's known to have the marimba on Under My Thumb and Out Of Time, so it seems like he might have been able to handle the vibes as well. Brian played a lot of instruments besides just guitar on those records.
There wouldn't have been a Rolling Stones without Brian Jones. He was the one who hustled the band's earliest gigs, before Andrew "Loog" Oldham took them under his wing. I've heard it said that it was "his" band originally, which was subsequently hijacked by Mick and Keith.
In meinen Augen eine nicht nur pubertäre, sondern äußerst sinnvolle Art sich spielerisch von enttäuschenden Liebesgeschichten zu befreien, um niedere Emotionen gar nicht erst aufkommen zu lassen.

@Kohntarkosz He played vibes and marimbas on a lot of stuff in this era. He was one talented mofo. His talent helped make the Stones so polished
