She seems to stay in the front and people keep watching her. I wonder if she was the leader and everybody got their cues from her?

  • There were too many blue umbrellas.

  • I WAS THEREE (:

  • Very cool and such an awesome song from Glee!

  • wow seattle sure knows how to flash mob :)

  • @UwHawk09 The campaign focuses on winter because pedestrian injuries and fatalities increase in winter. That's a fact. Why? Winter poses risky conditions that summer does not. There are more pedestrians and drivers are more stressed because of the holidays, it gets dark earlier, and the days are often gray and rainy. Brightly colored umbrellas -- whether the city's, or ones people purchase themselves because their awareness is raised by this campaign -- will save lives and prevent injuries.

  • @wordswithgrace furthermore, consider that many who are not used to driving downtown come into the city during the holiday season for shopping and festivities. I remember how scary it was to drive in a big city when I first came to Seattle. Just imagine how packed the streets are during the holiday season with its wet or snowy roads, foggy and/or wet windows.

  • @wordswithgrace that doesn't really work very well in a place where hardly anyone owns an umbrella and if they do they hardly use them. Its a great idea, but I think it would be easier to try to get brightly colored rain coats or jackets back in fashion so people start wearing them.

  • @chamboy15 I was just out in U District today and every other person had an umbrella. Perhaps you mean that people don't use them on days when it doesn't rain like the one in the video.

  • @bbonsey yeah i guess its mostly a perspective thing. plus today is a really smart to have an umbrella its raining super bad. alot of wind today too.

  • Great job Kaiya! It was fun seeing you dancing in this! And great job Bobby for putting this together!

  • To the naysayers: How much is a human life worth? Pedestrian-car collisions in Seattle double in numbers during the winter (to about two per day), and a large portion occur at downtown intersections. The $47,000 campaign includes many measures such as TV ads, bus ads, posters, and (using a small portion of the budget) umbrellas... It's a tiny amount in the grand scheme of things, not like the millions and billions for bridges and highways. In the name of saving lives, I say it's worthwhile.

  • @GtrDudeL And the city dollars spent... oh I mean earned... to pay for the permits for rehearsals and for the actual event(s)?

  • Comment removed

  • @Mattster2k6 Pretty sure no tax dollars were spent on this, just a lot of hard work from us volenteers, and a lot of fun and cheer were spread.

  • @roninseattle I believe most of these mobs are paid by donations from the mobbers or often time out of pocket by the coordinators. I know alot of bboy jams are like that, out of pocket mostly.

on a side note I believe I saw mr. Bobby Bonsey on the roster for the all styles battle for rise an shine this saturday. It's gonna be nice seeing you battle again. Havnt seen him battle since I started dancing I think.

  • Fun stuff! I think my fav thing about these events are the images of so many of the bystanders smiling & having fun when a minute or two before they may have been in any kind of mood.

    Thanks for spreading the smiles!

  • @normalityrelief: I agree with you. I love spreading joy! It was fun watching the dancers w/their smiling faces as well.

  • I've never owned an umbrella before, but will as soon as I can get downtown.

  • @roninseattle You might be interested to know that none of us involved are paid city employees....we are all VOLUNTEERS, who's only goal was to help promote safety, and have a little fun while showing our love for the people and City of Seattle. Perhaps you need to do some proper research instead of just getting your info from the misguided news networks. Don't worry, these smiles were brought to you free of charge!

  • What you might not know is, this was put together in only one week (from first rehearsal to performance day)! I am so proud to have been part of this project. Thank you, Bobby Bonsey, City of Seattle, and everyone else involved in making it happen!!

  • @chamboy15 I just borrow them from University Village or Bellevue Square!

  • @chamboy15 We don't! You can spot a tourist on a rainy day really easily.
