im not mormon but i always look up this great choir up on youtube because it makes me relax & have a close relationship with god, love this choir & how they seem so intune, clean & flawless, they dont sing for the attention but they sing for their father in heaven, i think i will get the missionaries to preach to my family & i, its time to change my life, thank you so much tabernacle choir for helping me see the light.
Sort of weird of me, but my second favorite thing about this video (besides the song itself) is the silence right after. Makes it seem that much more heartfelt, as if they weren't doing it for a live audience, they seem to be doing it for God.
@darthclide You hit the nail on the head. I am Mormon and we show respect to our Father in Heaven by not applauding . Although the performers, give a magnificent performance, we don't applaud, but rather, we feel the Spirit and turn our thoughts inwardly in reflection of the goodness and loving kindness our Father and His Son have for us. To the performers, this isn't about them personally, but rather their genuine expression of their love to the Savior and His Father
@lynnklikeable Although I don't subscribe to Mormonism, but to Protestant teachings, I still understand you completely. If one thing gets me more upset in a church service (of any denomination) is when people applaud for music meant to bring you closer to God... Thank you for the comment :)
i doesnt matter what religion you are or arent!! Handel's Messiah speaks to the heart and soul of mankind. when i saw it i felt as if i was in a different place... a peaceful, serene place. It reminded me of my humanity and of the power that is within all of us to create such beauty
I am not a Mormon, nor do I practice any organized religion. But I am a music lover. & this is a damn good masterpiece! I am a huge fan of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir!
Man... I'll bet that all of the assembled majesties of Heaven were on their feet by the time this thing finished. Reminds me of Sunday morning worship at the 1st Presbyterian Church downtown, back in the1960s. Big church (though nothing like this). When Dr. Wiltse’s baton would come down and the choir would stop on that last note, the huge pipe organ would resonate throughout the entire sanctuary. Made the hairs stand up on my neck, it did.
This must surely be what the "Heavenly hosts sounded like when they announced the "Saviour which is Christ the Lord" on that wonderful night long ago. I can only begin to imagine what the shepherds thought and felt at the majesty and glory of the heavens revealed to them! I feel chills from head to toe continually when this choir sings a song such as this one. If I had been one of the shepherds I think I would have fallen to the ground, too weak to get up.
Do we have to argue, guys? It's Christmas! Peace on Earth and goodwill toward men! All men! So happy holidays to everyone, religious and non-religious, of any religion or belief, or lack thereof. Have a great season!
Is this a different arraignment of the Messiah because at 2:59 the women seems to be playing a clarinet and in the original Messiah it is only written for choir, strings, oboe and basson

@TerranSports--the comments in the Old Testament and New Testament about not adding to God's words were written before there WAS an Old or New Testament, they refer to not adding or subtracting from the Gospel as it was originally written. Of course it HAS been added and subtracted from, during over 25 translations of the Bible, sometimes deliberately. If you read the Book of Mormon and sincerely pray to know if it's true or not, God will tell you. That simple. That profound.
It does not matter what you think about this church. What really matter is how amazingly they sing and how intensively feel the holiness of this divine music. God bless you all!
The fact that their "foundation" lays on the Bible, they pull their rug under their feet themselves (they use only some books, and they use the actual Bible when they knock on your door spread their own teaching, and others). Wouldn't you call that a DECEIVER, or a lair, of a thief?
And even the God says in the Bible that it's forbidden to add words to the it, and change the message, and J.M. has done that.
Galatians 1 says: "Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse! ".
So a demon comes to Joseph Smith and gives him a crazy new religion... he invents Mormonism.
Mormonism was founded by this guy, named Joseph Smith, who says he has got a visit from a spirit being. And this spirit being said that all Christians ar e wrong, and they alone were right, and added book to the Bible, he should start a new religion. The "angel's" name was Moroni.
And Joseph Smith says this was an angel not a demon.
pre 78, black men couldn't go thru endowment, sealings and ordinances, so they couldn't achieve the highest degree of salvation. that means the church was discriminating against blacks. now the church has changed it's policy??? anything else you'd like to school me on?
@alkimst13 They actually could in the early church, Joseph Smith hated slavery and welcomed blacks....It later changed, but they could still be members and where. Idk why it changed and changed back, but some people believe it was the actions of William McCary, a black guy who split off from the early Mormons and created his own sect of quazi-Mormonism, Brigham Young hated this guy lol
I am LDS-Mormon church member. I know that the LDS Church is the correct church and the truth, Our Prophet Joseph Smith transladed the Book of Mormon that's correct book we believe in the Bible until is translade correct. We believe in our present prophets. We are subject to obey the ten commandments and the word of wisdom.
It's astounding how...joyous, the choir looks singing this. Whether you believe in God or not it's hard to discredit how believing in a higher power has made these people so happy and ecstatic in a world where these two things are so rare. Happy Christmas everyone.
i saw that Glady's Knight got to sing with the choir. kinda using her weren't you, considering you folks won't let blacks into your heaven. go figure.
@alkimst13 listen man im not sure where you heard that black people cant get into heaven in the LDS Church but its wrong. Im a member of the church and i know for a fact that what you are saying is incorrect. I go to church with black people. they are good people and i dont think they would waste time in a church if they thought they are not going to heaven. Go to Mormon.org and look up members in your area and ask a black member. find out the truth
@alkimst13 all people can have the opportunity to return to Heavenly Father. Male African Americans couldnt hold the priesthood at first but that was changed 40 or 50 years ago.
@MarshallJohns75 so, the civil rights movement is in full swing during those times and suddenly, black males are eligible for the priesthood? sounds pretty fishy to me. Look, the mormons i've met thru the years have most often been upstanding people, but i can't bite into B.S. of their doctrine. The entire religion came from a man proven to be a liar, over and over. The "correct" book has been corrected, Lamanites, Cumorah B,S. Nothing in BOM can be substantiated.
@alkimst13 we can agree to disagree. but keep in mind, i dont think you would like it if i started trashing your church or your pastor or you beliefs. Members of the church are members for a very specific reason. They asked the Lord about it. I disagree about Joseph Smith being a liar. i know of no such instance and ive been a member my whole life. just on question for you. Have you ever read the Book of Mormon?
@MarshallJohns75 a liar, a seer, an occultist. what does Deut. say about false prophets? Put them to death. Translating Reformed Egyptian, which, all scholars say never existed. He was a martyr with a gun in his hand. Wrote himself into the bible. And yes, i read the BOM and studied it and found it full of more discrepancies than i can recount. Joe's tale of the cities in the Holy Land that have never been uncovered. Cumorah? 2 million dead? No proof. Show me.
@alkimst13 i can send you volumes of archaeological evidence for the places in the BOM, R.E. language ect.. What you are saying is off target and incorrect. I would challenge you to read the BOM prayfully and with a sincere heart. It will make all the difference. until then thanks for the debate and have a merry Christmas
@MarshallJohns75 debate was good i agree. the BOM, i've studied it, but just don't feel it in my heart. and you have a merry and peaceful xmas also. good day to you sir.
@alkimst13 Ignorance is one of the deadliest sins. The opposite to that is educating yourself. I suggest you do so as suggested by learning about our church on mormon.org rather than making false accusations. If you really want to know, contact a pair of missionaries working in your area. They'll be more than happy to help you know the truth of what we believe!!!
@mauiboy8705 What do Mormons believe regarding the Person of Jesus Christ. I don't know much about the Mormon church, but I've heard that Mormons believe that Christ (The Word of John 1:1) is a created being. I've also heard that Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan (Lucifer) are spirit-brothers - though I find this somewhat far-fetched. Can you point me to a good website that explains Mormon theology? I have Mormon friends and I'd like to understand the theology better. Thanks!
@tpkatsa I've heard it said that the Mormons believe in a 4th personage of godhead. Not just in a trinity. That would be God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, the Holy Spirit and some dude named Jim Smith, right? That or whoever he was ('was' is the word, since he like every other mortal man of his day is DEAD).
@FlimFlam7607 : LDS Mormons believe in God the Eternal Father and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. These three persons they believe compose the Godhead. Jim, er, I meant, Joe Smith is viewed as a prophet of God and a mortal man akin to Moses, or Abraham, or Elijah, or Peter. Peace.
@FlimFlam7607 Joseph Smith was a Prophet he is not a member of the Godhead. He was the one who restored the Gospel to the earth. We do not worship him but mearly respect and thank him for the sacrifices he made.
@mauiboy8705 Oh I forgot to add that the choir here is simply amazing. Best choir on earth, bar none. I will say though that the Boston Baroque "Messiah" CD (Director is Martin Pearlmann) is my reference recording for Messiah.
Trivia: Which reigning monarch stood up, and initiated the custom of standing, for this breathtaking musical gift. I wonder who told us to stop ? It IS, after all, a kind of "national anthem" for Jesus !
@CrownedinGold well it's appropriate for them to sing this song because it's about the messiah lol so yeah i agree with you,,, well theu shouuld know what they are singing about lol
Amazing! Handel was able to capture the sound of angels in one of the best works ever. So simple, the lyrics... taken directly from scripture... and set to the best accompaniment ever. Truly worthy of the King of kings!
My expertise is that I changed light bulbs, polished brass, made coffee and set up Jewish Services every Friday at the Largest Naval Base Chapel in the world!
November 10th, 2011. I layed My Beloved Mother to rest. With the Angels of Heaven my Mothers voice shall sing. Praise be to God all mighty! I shall see you again, my dearest Mother, but my heart will never forget you.
I see I waste my time explaining smth to kids. It's as simple and clear as black and white.
And if you, whoever you might be, believe in and worship God and the real/historical/biblical Jesus, and follow the Jesus' teachings and the teachings of the Bible, I'm happy for you.
But here's the point and the real issue: follow or live by the Teachings of Jesus and of the Bible, not only part of part of the Bible and the teachings some other man came up with a "new message".
@TerranSports Interesting that you say everyone who has a gun is a robber. Must mean that cops are really robbers who have badges. Also, you make no sense with what you said after that, so I will disregard it as the ramblings of a fool. And last I knew, Mormons don't worship Joseph Smith, but Jesus Christ. Now, is the def. of Christian has changed than I guess they aren't Christian. But since it hasn't, you good sir have proven your ignorance and should be a little more cultured.
@TerranSports We don't pray to Joseph Smith, we acknolewedge that he was a prohpet of God. We pray and worship God, and his son. It's called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for a reason. We're do you see Joseph Smith in that title? Please know what your talking about before you go off and insult a religion you don't know.
The Lord used Joseph Smith to restore His church to the earth. Love this song too!!!

Not my words: "Wolfs in sheep's clothing".
HOPE you all come to know the TRUTH.

TerranSports 2 months ago
Mormonism was founded by this guy, named Joseph Smith, who says he has got a visit from a spirit being. And this spirit being said that all Christians ar e wrong, and they alone were right, and added book to the Bible, he should start a new religion. The "angel's" name was Moroni.
And Joseph Smith says this was an angel not a demon.

pre 78, black men couldn't go thru endowment, sealings and ordinances, so they couldn't achieve the highest degree of salvation. that means the church was discriminating against blacks. now the church has changed it's policy??? anything else you'd like to school me on?
alkimst13 2 months ago

Singing this amazing song in my chorus Christmas concert ^_^
1994wee 2 months ago
It's astounding how...joyous, the choir looks singing this. Whether you believe in God or not it's hard to discredit how believing in a higher power has made these people so happy and ecstatic in a world where these two things are so rare. Happy Christmas everyone.
silentwitnessluva15 2 months ago
i saw that Glady's Knight got to sing with the choir. kinda using her weren't you, considering you folks won't let blacks into your heaven. go figure.
alkimst13 2 months ago
@alkimst13 Glady's Knight is a member of the LDS Church. so no, they are not "using" her.
MarshallJohns75 2 months ago
@MarshallJohns75 they just forgot to tell her that her black skin got her omitted from heaven then?
alkimst13 2 months ago
@alkimst13 listen man im not sure where you heard that black people cant get into heaven in the LDS Church but its wrong. Im a member of the church and i know for a fact that what you are saying is incorrect. I go to church with black people. they are good people and i dont think they would waste time in a church if they thought they are not going to heaven. Go to Mormon.org and look up members in your area and ask a black member. find out the truth
MarshallJohns75 2 months ago
@alkimst13 all people can have the opportunity to return to Heavenly Father. Male African Americans couldnt hold the priesthood at first but that was changed 40 or 50 years ago.
MarshallJohns75 2 months ago
@MarshallJohns75 so, the civil rights movement is in full swing during those times and suddenly, black males are eligible for the priesthood? sounds pretty fishy to me. Look, the mormons i've met thru the years have most often been upstanding people, but i can't bite into B.S. of their doctrine. The entire religion came from a man proven to be a liar, over and over. The "correct" book has been corrected, Lamanites, Cumorah B,S. Nothing in BOM can be substantiated.
alkimst13 2 months ago
@alkimst13 we can agree to disagree. but keep in mind, i dont think you would like it if i started trashing your church or your pastor or you beliefs. Members of the church are members for a very specific reason. They asked the Lord about it. I disagree about Joseph Smith being a liar. i know of no such instance and ive been a member my whole life. just on question for you. Have you ever read the Book of Mormon?
MarshallJohns75 2 months ago
@MarshallJohns75 a liar, a seer, an occultist. what does Deut. say about false prophets? Put them to death. Translating Reformed Egyptian, which, all scholars say never existed. He was a martyr with a gun in his hand. Wrote himself into the bible. And yes, i read the BOM and studied it and found it full of more discrepancies than i can recount. Joe's tale of the cities in the Holy Land that have never been uncovered. Cumorah? 2 million dead? No proof. Show me.
alkimst13 2 months ago
@alkimst13 i can send you volumes of archaeological evidence for the places in the BOM, R.E. language ect.. What you are saying is off target and incorrect. I would challenge you to read the BOM prayfully and with a sincere heart. It will make all the difference. until then thanks for the debate and have a merry Christmas
MarshallJohns75 2 months ago
@MarshallJohns75 debate was good i agree. the BOM, i've studied it, but just don't feel it in my heart. and you have a merry and peaceful xmas also. good day to you sir.
alkimst13 2 months ago
@alkimst13 Ignorance is one of the deadliest sins. The opposite to that is educating yourself. I suggest you do so as suggested by learning about our church on mormon.org rather than making false accusations. If you really want to know, contact a pair of missionaries working in your area. They'll be more than happy to help you know the truth of what we believe!!!
mauiboy8705 2 months ago 2
@mauiboy8705 What do Mormons believe regarding the Person of Jesus Christ. I don't know much about the Mormon church, but I've heard that Mormons believe that Christ (The Word of John 1:1) is a created being. I've also heard that Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan (Lucifer) are spirit-brothers - though I find this somewhat far-fetched. Can you point me to a good website that explains Mormon theology? I have Mormon friends and I'd like to understand the theology better. Thanks!
tpkatsa 2 months ago
@tpkatsa I've heard it said that the Mormons believe in a 4th personage of godhead. Not just in a trinity. That would be God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, the Holy Spirit and some dude named Jim Smith, right? That or whoever he was ('was' is the word, since he like every other mortal man of his day is DEAD).
FlimFlam7607 2 months ago
@FlimFlam7607 : LDS Mormons believe in God the Eternal Father and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. These three persons they believe compose the Godhead. Jim, er, I meant, Joe Smith is viewed as a prophet of God and a mortal man akin to Moses, or Abraham, or Elijah, or Peter. Peace.
rippinsteo 2 months ago 3
@FlimFlam7607 Joseph Smith was a Prophet he is not a member of the Godhead. He was the one who restored the Gospel to the earth. We do not worship him but mearly respect and thank him for the sacrifices he made.

Love you all.
Good song or not, No matter who sings it... may you listen to the words, and lead you to the one and only God.

TerranSports 3 months ago
why can't everyone in this society just enjoy the company of each other and this beautiful music? why must people put down other people's religion?

Let's say I believe that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. And Joseph Smith is a Lie.
And singing christian songs doesn't make you a christian, like having a gun doesn't make you a police man, but a robber.
And when you listen to music... try to LISTEN. Music isn't just instruments, it's also words. And the message is the part that counts.
As I told you, it's like you who deny Micheal Jackson ever existed, you sing his songs. (or worse... you're the real Micheel Jackson). GOT IT?
TerranSports 3 months ago
@TerranSports Interesting that you say everyone who has a gun is a robber. Must mean that cops are really robbers who have badges. Also, you make no sense with what you said after that, so I will disregard it as the ramblings of a fool. And last I knew, Mormons don't worship Joseph Smith, but Jesus Christ. Now, is the def. of Christian has changed than I guess they aren't Christian. But since it hasn't, you good sir have proven your ignorance and should be a little more cultured.
KycooRM 3 months ago
@TerranSports We don't pray to Joseph Smith, we acknolewedge that he was a prohpet of God. We pray and worship God, and his son. It's called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for a reason. We're do you see Joseph Smith in that title? Please know what your talking about before you go off and insult a religion you don't know.
