And for the record,'Into The West' is a superb choice of song for graduation. After 4 years of working hard to achieve your goals, there is a bittersweet melancholy about disbanding the group and everyone going their own way (following the sun at noon time) but nevertheless into the West.
It is reassuring that somewhere down the road, you all will meet again (in one form or other :)
this is not a funeral song nor does it symbolize death. it's about a new page that is turning in your life. so we can relate it to many things like death, graduation, etc. people who actually have seen LOTR or better than that read the books can truly understand the meaning of this song. I hate people who critsice something they don't know thoroughly. freedom of speech doesn't mean you have to blurt out any thing that comes to your mind.
@sepidehtje I'd really like to know what the song has to do with the book 'cause it was actually written for the movie.
And, yes, it HAS something to do with death. Just watch the comments of the SEE. It's about Frodo's journey to the undying lands, with is a metaphor for dying. "And all will turn to silver glass" describes Paradise. And in the west you can find the undying lands where the Valar live.
@MajaTadeo obviously you didn't read my comment very well. I said that it's not a "Funeral" song, it's about a new page that is turning in your life. so we can relate it to many things like death, graduation, etc. so yeah, death is among them but it's not the only thing.
Not to be stating the obivous but all the things you mentioned about the undying lands and valar...well they are described the best in the book. Those songs and movies are made according to the book.
@sepidehtje Of course the movies and the music are made according to the book - bless PJ that he did it that great ;)
However, I mean this song is more suitable for a funeral than for graduation. It's basicly a sad song, chained with hope. That MIGHT let some remember the time when they left school, I don't know. But Phillipa Boyens said that the song is DEFINATELY about death - in the movie the one of Frodo, the inspiration was Cameron Duncan (R.I.P.). The song IS about death! ;)
I think this song is better for a funeral not a graduation since the song symbolizes the passing of someone not the moving on in life. HAHA! So retarded if you can connect that to graduating !
Last time I checked I lived in a free world where I can openly opinionate as I see fit. Doesn't mean you or anyone else has to agree or like it but it's my opinion and right.
Pfft, yeah, too bad living in a free world doesn't mean you can say whatever you want. Don't think you can call people "retards" in the real world just because of their own opinions and not have any consequences. Last time I checked, the world doesn't revolve around you.
My world revolves me not sure where your world revolves around. If people didn't want opinions then they would disable comments. Enough said don't have time for this bs.
Ahahaha, "my world revolves around me"? So now your opinion is immediately situated above everyone else's just because YOU think YOUR world revolves aroung YOU and you are free to give insults?
You're completely missing the point again. What we're focusing on is how you called people retarded because they think it can fit a graduation while you think it's only strictly for a funeral. You know there are other people here with opinions too right? I guess that means you're a retard as well.
not from what i understand, they actually go "into the west" or Aman (heaven) where they live with the Eldar (elves) and the Valar (Gods/ Goddesses)....and still if i am wrong, it could be like the death or end of their high school times and times together. I thought it was very appropriate!
i JUSS SO HAPPEN TO BE SiNGiNG THiS A THiS EXACT MOMENT! AND i COULD SAY WEEH DiD A DAYM GUD JOB DESPiTE THE FACT THAT WEEH LEARNED THiS SONG iN LiKE TWO WEEKZ... WELL i DiD... iM THE ONLY AFRiCAN AMERiCAN iN THE ENSEMBLE... iT WAS FUN... TEAR ;( i MiSS MAH CLASS! AND MAH CHOiR!
I disagree. It has faint whispers of a Gregorian chant, which gives it a new, moving twist. Few covers compare to the original, but this one is very haunting. I enjoyed it.
gives me shivers, an absolutly spectacular performance, well well done! a beautiful version of this lovely song, give yourselves a huge pat on the back! xxx
hey it's Elk Grove! The exceptional community! haha
one of my friends from college is from Elk Grove. What the hell is up with your welcome sign when you pull off the interstate? who the hell says "exceptional community"?
This is an amazing song for graduation!

Just wanted to say, as one of the performers, there were no bases, just the two tenors (one male and one female- rock that low voice Casey!)

what the fuck, there's no feeling in this song.
it's boring and all straight sounding.

Yes but this song needs Energy, especially on the Chorus. That's how I got interested into this song.

Beautifully performed. This song is one of my favourites and they added a new twist to the it. I quite enjoyed the harmonies it sounds interesting.
