  • I suppose it has t o be said that many people do like the sound of modern rings, me included but it is also true that many old rings are very iconic such as St Pauls and to replace those with a modern peal would be in my opinion shocking. The sound of St Pauls is to be the sound of London Bells.

I think the new peal would go better than the old peal, they were way to heavy for the tower

  • The ringing sounds ok, but as I predicted, just another aseptic boring modern 12, sounding just like any other 12 of their weight cast in the last few decades. Most people seem completely oblivious to the uniqueness of Cornhill as a one-off attempt to cast old-style big bells around an older ring to replace bells discovered to be cracked in the late 1950's, before the days of Soundweld. So most ringers will leap on the bandwagon of how terrible the old bells sounded, purely because they have no

  • @rmdguild Pardon? As regards the London firms attempt at what you say, well "The operation was a success, but the patient died....". It has to be said that some of the older bells were better than thier modern Whitechapel companions.

  • My old man Hung the old bells in the early 60s. I remember him saying they were to heavy for the tower and sounded shocking. This new peal sounds wonderful.

  • I've heard these are now fantastic, but you're right, they don't sound it in this video.

  • According to one of the objectors, the people who approved this new ring will burn in hell. Bless him.

  • @Twiddlepin I have some sympathy for the objector in question. It must be difficult, having arrived from 1870, to acknowledge that just because something is old doesn't automatically mean it's good.

  • what weight is tht tenor?

  • Very nice!!! I must ring here at some point!

  • Though the sound doesn't do them justice, there is definitely a tantalising hint of a magnificent tenor! Certainly an improvement!

  • @timmeh1507 The tenor is SPANKING

  • @irkibby I see you are still a fan of that word!

  • Yeah but he is making hard work of simply drumming the tenor.

  • @topshed34a What are you talking about? I have made no reference to the tenor ringer in any of my comments

  • Brilliant sound indeed!!!!

  • A massive improvement...
