@amin1950 I had vague but fond memories of these adds, but never new they had such famous talent. They didn't really taste like fountain shakes; maybe "Fake Shakes" would have been a more honest name. But all the maltodextrin, vegetable protein, monoglycerides or whatever else they put in these things made them good in their own way; I still remember the vanilla version and would love to see it come back, along with Borden "Frosted", Nutrament and Parmalat "ShakeAShake".
According to lazur1 below, this has both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on it . . . just can't picture Beck hawking a powdered milk shake mix. Don't hate me, but I preferred Borden's milk shakes in a can. Actually, it was cheaper and better (no chunks) if you used a commercially available syrup and milk to make your shakes.
Oh wow, this is really really amusing for me. I don't know what this stuff is, cause I am only 19, but still, I can imagine Keith singing and recording this commercial and really not caring for it at all. lol. It sounds like a good product though, cause I like shakes. haha.
Greatest 2 guitar lineup ever! Funny : This's 1 of 5 tracks, (at the most!), ever recorded by Yardbirds w/both Page & Beck on guitar. 1/ "Happenings 10 Years Time", (Released as a single). 2/ "The Nazz Are Blue",(Beck: Vocal. Page probably not on it, but I list it just in case: 'B'-side of "Happenings" single. 3/ "Waiting For My Man", (Velvet Underground tune, not released at the time, perhaps never). 4/"Stroll On" ,(on-camera performed live, Movie: "Blow-Up", band not credited) 5/ This ad.
Sounds like Page takes the solo before the last first & Beck plays the stuff at the end. The solo sounds so-so, no cool extra riffs or bends added to the melody. Maybe the ad guys wanted it that way. The ending riffs are much like the "Over Under Sideways Down" version, quite inspired .
Ah, one of many products of nostalgia that was before my time. Every time I play this song on the "Little Games" CD, it tempts me to go to the store and get Great Shakes! But then reality sets in. Those Great Shakes boxes are so cool!! Love those colors!
Come on, General Foods! I want my own soda fountain NOW! Bring back Great Shakes!!
