  • You don't have to be a died hair punk funk shit-hot fucked up tick-tock paduhh

  • I didn't like drugs as a teen or early 20s outside of a cigar and an ale/stout. But then I got depressed. They put me on every fu((ing thing from Geodon to Buspar to Abilify mixed with pritique. I got fatter and fatter without eating much. Thyroid destroyed. No energy. Then my shrink put me on Adderall. Started off at 10mg and worked up to 30 (x2-day). Now, Amphetamines mixed with 1 expresso, Neurontin and an scraped edge of xanax and I'm Totally Wired. Even with good blood pressure now.

  • Was lucky enough to see MES and The Fall in NYC at The Knitting Factory, New York City on November 23, and 24 2001. MES was in very good form, just drums, bass, and guitar backing him very tightly. It was a dream come true to catch them. I had been collecting Fall CD's for nine years up to that point and was fascinated by them. It was awesome to actually meet other people who knew who the fork they were here in the USA. it was frightening and wonderful.

  • you should start a Fall-Cult

  • The best band that ever walked the face of the Earth! I'm gonna start a Fall - Cult.

  • The audio of that era is part of the beauty! Loved going to this song in the club in "79". Sorry to hear chmang09 has to turn his speakers "up a little." Life can be so unfair and complex! Can't it?

  • The only negative thing I have to say is the audio seems a tad off and needs to be re=dited for audio level. I have to turn my speakers up a little more than other videos on youtube. Bad ass song though. I love the lyrics at around 1:56 LOL

  • 'When the going get's weird...the weird turn pro'

    !

  • LMAO! Never heard these guys b4! I'm totally wired listening to them!!!!

  • I'm going to see them in a couple of months...Can't wait!

  • Actually it's "You don't to be have to be weird to be wired" hah! Long live The Mighty Fall!

  • @salubrious ye don't have to be strange to be strangled ;)

  • you dont have to be weird to be weird

  • Swell Maps are good, not great.

  • HELLS YEAH!

  • Like this? Try the criminally overlooked SWELL MAPS,Midget Submarine & Lets build a Car.Cool footage on youtube.Franz Ferdinand et al,watch&cry to sleep!

  • This is absolutely awesome.Remember seeing them back in the day here in Australia - a friend of mine at the time was the promoter. Also remember having a promo poster of their single"CREEP' stuck on my bedroom wall along with a Joy Division poster and a massive "Bela Lugosi"s Dead" one while I was strill living with my parents in my early 20's

  • much better than the studio one, actually

  • Check out Rileys JUMPER CLOWN & Thewlis in the film NAKED.

  • _____TOTALLY WEIRD! they meant :P hahehh!

  • Is Mark Riley the bassist?

  • He is - heck *everyone* has played bass for Mr Smith

  • Thats him to the righof MES. Think he's on lead in this vid but he played bass aswell.

  • love his jumper

  • no matter when I saw them back in the day, I never thought Scanlon was actually doing anything - and here's another fine example of it, watch his rhythm hand, I swear he's not even close to being in time with the song. But he has to be doing something! Burns was the best drummer for them - I'm told he vanished!

  • fucking greatest fall line up!!!!!

  • The morning light

  • watch our videos :D

  • life leaves you surpriseeed, slaps you in the eyeees

  • you dont have to be weird to be wired

this early 80s stuff has the best use of the spoken word i think. what's more the music works.

  • Can't get any better than that, totally!!!!

  • Di$Co ! . . DI$Co! . . Di$Co ! . .

  • "...and I'm always worried..."

  • butterfly stomach ground round

  • yum

  • what year is this from?

  • 1981

  • "i drank a jar of coffee and then i took some of these"

  • then I took some es, surely

  • I agree, sounds more lik he's say e's.

    haha (Y)

  • this song predates the ecstasy revolution by a few years mate

  • he says 'i took some of these'. amphetamines

  • youdonthavetobeweirdtobewired

  • ta-ta-ta-totally pumped up.

  • I always listen to this song before a workout. Love the play on alternate pronunciations of "wired" (weird, worried).

    Live version rocks.

  • Oh god this is just so so so good.

  • but the bassist and drummer are good, there all just extreamly high, ergo 'totally wired'

Thats their style, or are you too dumb to notice that.

  • I think I was totally wired. I agree with you.

  • my heart and i agree........fucking magic

  • See Phil Strongman's book PRETTY VACANT.

He discusses the importance of Mark. E.'s numerous, eh, influences.

  • I think Mar E Smiths influences are showing eg Link Wray for one. Sen them live three times since 1979 and always fookin great.

  • They look like kids!

  • surely the forward to the simpson's 'big book of british teeth' was penned by this man.

and i never really had a chance to see them live, but they played the hell out of some of those early 80s bbc sessions.

  • While I don't understand where MES is coming from most of the time, I really dig the beat!! Great music!

  • Thats in skins-Luv eh

  • I think John Peel was knocked off his feet by them was because unlike most artist/bands they don't show their influences. MES is a one-off. Definitely original. Wish he would put the top back on the bottle though.

  • No chance MGC.

  • blindin. Fall live are nearly always bad bad. this is ace version of one of the greatest 'punk' trax ever.MES the folk poet of 21st cent. "Pay yer rates" p.s. karl still owes me for some duramine b4 Blackburn gig in 84.

  • Cute the way MarkE leaves out the vital song intro lyric here, " you don't have to be an American, to be a scrounge"... esp seeing as he;s here in NY :)

He's quite the political animal / survivor @ heart y'see folks.

  • MES's biggest selling point has always been uncompromising onstage ATTITUDE.

And that's actually quite appealingly rare these sell-out & "to-pleeeease-is-the-curse - and worse.." days.

  • Well said, they suck live: don't believe the hype

  • fuckin mint tune, i'm always wired too

  • yes indeed, a little bit of a genius there our roman totale the III "and I'm always worried, and I'm always worried, and I'm always worried"

  • Ourzzz Looks like Anne Widdecombe in places ;-)

  • dogmilkpaper.... fuck off you twat. ur sadder than suicide. try it wankpot.

  • This is cool. A relaxed version of a song about speed. Thanks.

  • haha...wizzhead...

  • Are you mad? I used to score with one of the people in this video and one of the others sold me a wrap before the gig!Happy days.Mind you the comedown was bad the next day at work.

  • is this song about speed? (rhetorical question).

p.s. the best method of amphetamines is a low dosage in coffee. The Charlie Parker. If only my heart (and the law)would be cool with it...

  • Noone has anything on MES,man is a pure bonafide genius.

  • can anyone think of anything better - ever?

  • Can anyone think of anything similar to this?

"My heart and I agree". WTF? This is genius.

  • It's a grower!

  • They sound as good live as they do in the studio. Great band and one of my personal faves.

  • Read a bit more - The Fall do not follow Joy Division

  • Absolutely fucking brilliant!

  • Strange but true - the first time I heard this song was before a Rod Stewart gig in 1981, played as Rod took to the stage. I've been addicted to the Fall ever since. Excellent!

  • A few years back I heard "Hit the North" before a Coldplay gig. I was singing along but nobody around me seemed to know the song (fuck them). It was the highlight of the evening. A Coldplay gig, a bunch of wussies, what was I thinking.

  • Any fuckin idiot on this page commenting negative...should just fuck off. For inspiration listen to Ivor Cuttler - Walking to a farm.

  • Is enforcing group-think really the best way to run YouTube? I don't feel any energy from this song (I do from other Fall songs), but I can handle seeing someone disagree with me on a comments page and don't want them to leave. Oh, and color.

  • Fair comment.

  • Container drivers

  • One of my favourite songs by one of favourite bands. Thanks for uploading.

  • i'm on gramme friday.

  • Well, why don't you find some Ivor Cuttler.

  • If I were a communist, a rich man'd fail me.

    Killer line.

  • when the goin gets weird, the weird turn pro... HST! what a fucking awesome song, and awesome performance.

  • i drank a jar of coffee,then i took some of these........and now im totally wired............"FUCKIN SUPERB/GENIUS LYRICS"

you dont have to be weird to be wired !

  • 'i drank a jar of coffee, then i took some of these' is an absolutely superb and simple MES lyric! however, i think his best overall lyric has to be 'New Face In Hell'. Oustanding, The Fall are the greatest band of all time!

  • your not fuckin wrong sunshine MES is the fuckin man

  • and im totally wired, cant you see.yes im totally wired.

  • "You don't have to be weird, to be wired... You don't have to be strange, to be strangled"

    Brilliant!!!

  • The North will rise again

  • I'm irate. Peeved.

  • my heart and i agree

  • He did not age very well

  • drugs?

  • mark dont dance

  • On the DVD of Perverted By Language (where this is from) Marc Riley's name is absent from any performing credits even though he's clearly there

  • This IS rock.

  • I should say so !

  • I have been just been recently baptized

  • The Mighty Fall are the greatest band ever. I feel priveledged to love them so much. Mark E Smith is a genius. Fall fans must keep the secret

  • I would've totally hit that...Had I been around in '81.

  • yeah right, feck off.

  • thank you, well said!

  • Am the only one who sees lcd soundsystem's "Watch The Tapes" as an updaded version of this song?

  • or rip-off...

  • " I drank a jar o' coffee, then I took some o' these...now I'm TOTALLY WIRED"

Got to be the best opening rock lyrics in Christendom!

  • I see it now that you mention it. Good call on all parties.

  • Always loved this album; fantastic to see video of it.

  • That's just one of the greatest things ever.

  • myyyyy heart and i agreeee

  • I drank of coffee ... and then I took some of these.

  • fall fucking brill !!!

  • Priceless! Last gig i went to, the audience were all old baldy geezers!? (like me!!)

  • T-T-T-TOTALLY WIREDD

  • Love the drummer dropping stick effect at the beginning.

  • \m/

  • Love it!!

  • Super stuff! Thanks!

  • sonofafuck this is brilliant

  • Love the Marc Riley backing vox

  • nice!

  • The guitar in this video sounds amazing. 100x better than the record version.

  • classic Fall performance

  • Thanks

  • magic thanks

  • God I love this song.

I used to have to listen to it before I could go out partying, when I was a speed freak, in my teens

  • Oh yes! sometimes you forget how great and important the Fall were back then

  • Life leaves you surprised!

  • great performance

  • Awesome!!
