@hipstafoo916 sorry but its for-profit so they can pay 2 make the shoes and pay the people who make the shoes. what toms is doing is great. my friend has very bad vision problems and it costs her a lot of money just 2 buy new ones when they break. i will try and buy some of those glasses so i can help people like her.

Warby Parker is also another great alternative if you're looking specifically for prescription glasses. BUT to those who are saying "well warby parker did the same thing first and for a lot cheaper"... yes and no. Warby does have the buy one give one but the difference here is that TOMS isn't only giving prescription glasses to those in need. They are also putting money that will go towards eye correction surgeries and such, which ultimately makes $140+ seem reasonable.
For anyone interesting in prescription glasses, Warby Parker has the same "buy a pair, give a pair" idea, but they sell prescription glasses for $95. They'll also send you 5 frames to try on for 5 days for free to make sure you like the frames on your face.
And they also sell a monocle and are going to start selling sunglasses to benefit Invisible Children.
Sell prescription frames and I'm in. I can't do much of anything with sunglasses. :( I'd put up $135 for TOMS frames and have my eye doctor fit in my lenses though. I'm glad to see the push for bettering the world!

My mom goes through about 20 pair of sunglasses a year, and you can bet that none of them are cheap. They are expensive, and most of what she's paying for is just the name. You can bet that I think $50 for shoes is too much, mine are usually bought at $15, but I saved for 3 months to buy my first pair of Toms, knowing I could get better somewhere else. It wasn't about the brand this time, but about their one for one commitment. I'm saving up for my second pair now, and glasses to go with it.

Actually, it is kinda partially true, one of the ways that TOMS is helping to correct vision is by giving prescription glasses to people, as well as eye corrective surgery and other things to help vision.

@Thejluck777 You're basically paying for two sunglasses each for $67.50 coming out to be $135 (excluding tax). You get one and someone else gets the opportunity to better sight. That's the idea. I haven't personally seen the glasses in person but they're probably of good quality, so $135 isn't really that expensive for glasses.
@Thejluck777 check out Ray Burns sunglasses. Then think of how much it costs to give vision to those people in need. Do your research before you act shocked at the price.
