As someone who's been through some really... interesting... situations, I can tell you that there are times when it will be really hard, like if she dates another guy, etc... But I find that as long as you be a good friend, even if she knows how you feel, but doesn't feel the same about you, it's not awkward. You might have some... breakdowns... every now and then, just remember to apologize. Things change if you stick around. :)

I just really don't believe in god because i just don't but it doesn't matter if you think this song is about god or your boyfriend/girlfriend because it's just special to you and you give it your own meaning and interpretation. Taking alternate meanings out of a song isn't "wrong", especially if it's a positive meaning. Music is art, and art is in the eye of the beholder.
Literature and music are so far apart, you can't think that academic writing can even be compared to something like this.
This song is so much more meaningful to me if I think of it in a non-religious manner, and telling me I'm wrong for thinking of the lyrics in this song in a deviant manner is not okay in my book.

Most song are essentially poems set to melodies and music
