Well I am for getting the horse slaughter house shut down, horsees have evey right to live as you and me. I find this bullsh** that they kill young horses to feed overseas or ever to get rid of them b/c I can not afford them or they are in my way kinda thing which is just bull I am on a site that can help stop this bull if you want to help the horses. It's not better to remain ignorant about all types of slaughter houses. The more people who are educated and exposed to this subject, the more people who can make a stand and enforce change for the better. Most cattle are not shot, they are often times mutilated while still conscious and left to wither and die on their own. No quick end for any of them.

I am doing the same job here in Belgium but I get them knocked with one shot as we use hand held bolt stunners. They are much easier to place in the correct position on the horses forehead and penetrate the skull much better. With the large gun in the video aiming is difficult so the guy still makes a good job.

most of the horses we slaughtered yesterday were from Poland. they are not used for riding or racing and live in a coral for about 2 years before they go to slaughter. they are almost like mustangs and in perfect health, so it is sometimes difficult to get them into the knocking box. I use an electric prodder and the strongest cartridges for the captive bolt gun to safely stun them with the first shot so it´s over very fast. By average I kill a horse every two minutes

Quite often, they miss and shoot them in random places, I saw one of them being shot in the neck. Sometimes, this method merely knocks them out, and they can awaken whilst being bled. horse slaughter is not something that any horse lover wants to think about but now that there are no more operating slaughter plants in the states these horses just spend that much longer on trailers as they are hauled to Mexico and Canada. The suffering hasn't ended, it has just been prolonged.

The differnce between horses and cattle is that cattles are bred for meat, horses are bred to work. It's not better to remain ignorant about all types of slaughter houses. The more people who are educated and exposed to this subject, the more people who can make a stand and enforce change for the better. Most cattle are not shot, they are often times mutilated while still conscious and left to wither and die on their own. No quick end for any of them.

Someone below wrote that horses shouldnt be killed, and that horses are not food and its foreigners fault... Horse meat is common in many countries. Just because it isnt common in yours doesnt mean your right.
This wasnt even cruel, a lightening bolt to the brain means that the horses have no suffering.

Okay, this video sucks. No one (normal) likes death. Even though I hunt, fish, etc., seeing the slaughter of animals like dogs, horses, even cats, is tough and disturbing. I have all three and could never imagine any of them being put through this (even though they all server different purposes).
It's ironic that in the age of gunslinging and hangings, stealing or killng a horse was a capital offense in most Western Territories.

it would be sick if it were people killing people, but you have to face the fact there there is an abundance of humans, and they have to be fed. This is the most humane way to kill these animals, with the least amount of pain. It's not sick to kill a horse, its meat, like a cow, chicken, or pig. They all die in a similar manner. It's the way the food chain works

I am doing the same job here in Belgium but I get them knocked with one shot as we use hand held bolt stunners. They are much easier to place in the correct position on the horses forehead and penetrate the skull much better. With the large gun in the video aiming is difficult so the guy still makes a good job.
We love horse meat here so horse slaughter is something completely normal.
It looks worse than it is, the horses dont even hear the bang when I press the trigger, it´s really humane!

most of the horses we slaughtered yesterday were from Poland. they are not used for riding or racing and live in a coral for about 2 years before they go to slaughter. they are almost like mustangs and in perfect health, so it is sometimes difficult to get them into the knocking box. I use an electric prodder and the strongest cartridges for the captive bolt gun to safely stun them with the first shot so it´s over very fast. By average I kill a horse every two minutes

I think we americans were hypocritical at first saying we love horses, don't kill them and then we had the slaughter plants killing horses for food. If America truely loved horses and cared about their well being then why would we let this happen in the first place?
At least we made a turn around to make it illegal but what bothers me is why do it if we think it is ethically wrong. Although I love horses, it's really none of our business to kill horses for other countries.

so is it OK to kill a wild horse in this same inhumane manner? Does the wild horse feel any less pain than the domesticated horse? PS - all of Europe and Japan and Canada eat horse meat. Understand me, I am not in agreement....I own a horse ranch and rescue horses from auction. I am just saying to you that wild or domesticated....it is the method that is cruel...same for cows, pigs, chickens, lambs, etc. Industry is not concerned with humane treatment...just profit.

Horse meat is healthy and good meat, most animals have had a very good life. However, I disagree with the way horses are slaughtered in this vid. I have brought two horses to the slaughterhouse myself in the Netherlands and there they make sure they die immidiately! They put a mask on, and it takes one shot. Not two or three spikes; that's just needles suffering.

Just so you all know, the pnuematic stun gun does not always kill them instantly, as you can tell by the way the piece of shit killer has to shoot them all several times. Quite often, they miss and shoot them in random places, I saw one of them being shot in the neck. Sometimes, this method merely knocks them out, and they can awaken whilst being bled. Disgusting, and so fucking inhumane.

horse slaughter is not something that any horse lover wants to think about but now that there are no more operating slaughter plants in the states these horses just spend that much longer on trailers as they are hauled to Mexico and Canada. The suffering hasn't ended, it has just been prolonged.

How do people do this? First, too many horses are produced by the racing industry and people who over-breed horses. Then there are sorry excuses for human beings who are too cheap to euthanize and old or infirm horse. My Arab just turned 30, he'll either keel over dead quickly or be put down by the vet when his time comes.

problem is though that with a hunt yes they die slower but they they actually live in the wild unlike these animals who live there entire lives in cramped unhealthy environments. I am a meat eater but videos like this sure make me want to rethink that.

The differnce between horses and cattle is that cattles are bred for meat, horses are bred to work. So i dont think people who are killing the horses are sick, thats just their job. i think the people who owned the horses before are sick for sending them here. the horses hav been working all its life for them and just cos they cant work anymore they send them here when they could go to a horse sanctury or someit there ARE other options! Cows and pigs dont bond with you like horses do.
