These clips of Russian hardware fascinate me. I guess because when I was growing up, the best we aviation buffs could get were grainy black and white photos, whereas we are inundated with western aviation. Most fascinating: the Bear, the Blinder, Backfire, Flagon, Fiddler, Foxbat and Badger. The cargo planes and amphibians are interesting too--especially that monstrous 6-engine derivative of the Condor.
One of them is the Tu-16 K11-16 (AS-5/KSR2) My dad used to fly them as a captain for the Egyptian Air Force and died on 1st September 1975 after engine fire and bailed out after his co-pilot after he put the bomber in a dive position into the river Nile in order to reduce explosion and rescued thousands of civilians in the nearby villages. His co-pilot and himself were considered as one of the rare proper ejection from a Tu-16, but unfortunately he died at the hospital later.
Leaves on заданье the heavy plane, And a fighting route before eyes... Furiously ground and firmament shivers from a rumble, History of fatherland for us... Refrain: Rocket carriers - hard destiny, Rocket carriers - snows and colds... The winged machine conducts us In night cloudless flight... To plenty heart feels taiga холодок, To plenty sweeps up us snows... But if here there is a military station, Then, here there live Slavs!
I loved the video and songs, really excellent! My russian doesn't allow me to understand more than a few words, unfortunately. Could someone please post the lyrics? Thanks!!!
Yes, it would be great if you translated it! Google's translator is too literal to make any sense, plus I bet more people would like to know the lyrics. I'm really into Soviet/Russian Naval Aviation.
Yeah, hearing this song I remember my childhood in Soviet Union... how we love Motherland in that time!!! Now everytnig is changed...
AWESOME SONG!!!

A heavy plane for mission leaves us
and mission track in our eyes.
Trembles terribly of rumble our earth
The history of motherland is behind us
Missile carriers - your destiny is hard
Missile carriers - the wind, the snow, the blood
The flying jumbo carries us for fly
into the dark and cloudless sky
YanSvoboda 3 years ago
Sometimes my heart feels cold of far taiga
Sometimes the snows are drifting
But if here could be found a presido
it means we are away from far Hokkaido
Airfiуld casts dead and doleful longing
The pilots yearn for their flight
In skies we'll always be cannoning
The navy aviation is the sign of might

YEp, russian strategicv bomber fleet is largest and most powerful in the world. Mostly because of Tu-22M3, Tu-95 and Tu-160.
Now most interesting thing: USA stopped production of all bombers. Russia continues to build heaviest and most powerful bomber ever to exist (Tu-160).
