@huzzler631 That was the joke JFK made - he wanted to give him some legal experience, so he appointed him Attorney General. But RFK was on the McCarthy Committee and the rackets committee, so he had a lot of investigatory experience.

RFK's primary skill as a politician was that he really began to understand the need to develop a new domestic consensus in this nation. He could address both white and black audiences and somehow make it sound the same. Very few candidates have even come close to this skill since his death.

I love RFK more than I can say but he was an imperfect man and part of that imperfection was that he was an out and out HOMOPHOBE. While it doesn't surprise me coming from that family (I can just imagine his dad going off on that topic), I wondered if he would have changed his attitude about homosexuals.

BObby was the epitomy of what a politician is. He switched sides,changed positions,and used whatever vehicle to rise to power. Including the murder of his brother. He criticized the civil rights act because Johnson signed it and not a Kennedy. Was he a bad politician? No a very good one. Was he a bad man? I surely don't know. You obviously know next to nothing about Bobby. He never criticized the Civil Rights Act of 1964, because it originated with his brother's administration. JFK election victories were a habit. Bobby fought an uphill battle from his election to Senator of New York to the primaries in 1968. Don't make comments or pass judgment on the life of a man you have only slight knowledge of. No, he wasn't perfect. But, it was his journey as a man as well as a politcian that caught our hearts.

Of course not. In fact, I believe, I made a very objective comment about his career in politics. I never met Bobby Kennedy. .I would've voted for him were I old enough. Nevertheless, His positions were like others in his field.....whatever gets the vote. Im not naive to think he was as altruistic as most want to believe he was. He was a politician and a lawyer. And good at both. Thats all. I also feel his murder was a loss for America as well as his family. But I can only say so much on youtube.

I'm not a man who worships idols either, and Bobby like any man made mistakes. but the way you try to describe him is inaccurate. True, many of his positions were like McCarthy's, but there was something about him that ppl liked. Ask the black and hispanic Americans who lived during that time what they thought of him. Ask any disenfranchized American. He was geniune, and he meant every word he said. But I can't force that on you, its just one of those things you either see or don't see.

I have read many biographies of RFK and your analysis of him is so wrong. Yes, he was a good politician when he helped his brother win the presidency, but he was committing political suicide by running against L.B Johnson in 1968. RFK ran for president because he knew the Vietnam War was wrong. He was also a supporter of civil rights from when he was the attorney general during his JFK's presidency. He was the one, in fact, who urged JFK to take a stronger stance on civil rights.

Anyways; I respected Bobby a lot. I admired his brothers. I understand, those who say he was ruthless in his early career going after unions. assassinate Fidel. But which part exactly am I wrong Betty? And as I said: I hope Im wrong ...the Kennedys were a beacon of light and hope during Americas darker years. Intellectually-best minds hands down

I try to always remain objective...even though I admire the Kennedys more than any other politician. They cared for and about the real ppl. of America.
