I'm lucky that I live in Upstate New York (Watertown) and I get CBC on my cable system. I've loved HNIC for years. I watched it since 1984 when I was 4. It's a Saturday Night Tradition that my fiance gladly shares with me.

His greatest claim to fame before winning the Stanley Cup two seasons ago. And go easy on PBandJelly, MNazzy. He probably didn't recognize Crosby because he was wearing the Penquins little used powder blue alternate uniforms. Crosby is also not as distinctive as Ovechkin, with that crazy hair and smile.

Great theme. I'm from Pittsburgh and have been gifted with Sidney Crosby, and he brought me and my family into the world of hockey. I watch HNIC as much as possible and love hockey. The rest of the world really doesn't know what they're missing out on. Americans and Canadians are lucky with the NHL, but some Europeans and all Asians don't get any great league like that, and Asians haven't been exposed. Too bad they get stuck with 'football' (soccer).
I'm 30 and the original theme will live on forever in my mind. But due to politics, another track had to be chosen, and I think they did a great job with this one, it will carry the new torch for televised canadian hockey....
One of the few things I miss about not living in Northern New York (St. Lawrence County) anymore. We got CBC and CTV on our cable system up there, so I got to see HNIC every weekend. Was lovely.

NBC and Versus are okay if you're new to hockey and deciding who you like. Once you want to get serious, you'll graduate to HNIC and think of NBC and Versus as training wheels. If HNIC were the only option in the U.S., most Americans would be lost trying to follow along.
Versus and NBC take note, we Americans should know that Canadians are the ones who invented this great game. We should learn from CBC and how they broadcast games as passionately as they do.
if NBC or VS had the same enthusiasm for Hockey the sport would rise up here in the US where pretty much hockey is non-existent in the major sports world.

I don't watch hockey anymore since the rule changes with the strike, but there's no way this song is better than the hockey theme. I understand you want to move on and this is decent and does it's job but it will never be ubiquitous with hockey in this country. Maybe it's unfortunate for the new song because if this were on another broadcast it would be perfectly fine, but it does have the unenviable position of following the hockey theme and it just doesn't cut it.
Also here's a question to the folks over at the US NHL Network: Why do we only get ONE game of the "Hockey Night in Canada" doubleheader? It seems to me that if "Hockey Night" is a doubleheader we SHOULD get both games! Granted we do get to see the second game on Sundays, but that ain't the same!
This version gets me so pumped on hockey every time I listen/watch it. When it played right before my Leafs opened the season at home against the Canadians.... still sends shivers down my spine thinking of it.
You said it Dude. I have watched this clip dozens of times. It is perfect in every way. Music is great, montage is great and the voices are great. It gives you the same feeling of excitement that you get when you actaully go to a game. I had it posted on my Pee Wee team's website so that the kids could see it and we could discuss it.

Me too - I feel the same way when I watch this clip. All the greats from the past - Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Howe - along with those iconic voices - Foster Hewitt, Danny Gallivan, Bob Cole - I get shivers every time I watch this. CBC did a phenomenal job on this. It makes me proud to be a Canadian and it captures perfectly what this game means to us.
Lemme say that sadly since I'm an American I didn't get to watch HNIC when they had the old "Hockey Theme" so I can't feel the pain that most of Canada has felt with losing "The Hockey Song"
That said I have to tell you that since the US NHL Network has the rights to air Scotiabank's Hockey Tonight, Hockey Night in Canada and After Hours not only has the show grown on me but this beautiful theme song has as well.

Bang on. A buddy of mine from the States is just getting into hockey, and he gets HNiC on his satellite. I described it to him as "the best produced sports show in the world" - a great theme (then and now), beautiful production, iconic voices and history. Ron MacLean is my favourite TV personality ever, and good, bad, or indifferent, everyone should see Don Cherry a few times.
I'm inclined to agree. If the song was so iconic and TSN were the heroes in white hats who saved it, why did they have everyone and their dog do a new version of it?
This is a fine replacement to the old anthem that I grew up with and still enjoy. Than said, I don't like the video put together by CBC... It looks terrible and amateurish, and the voice overdubs of the old announcers smack of amateur night. Music = Score! CBC Video = Weak.
People we may not realize it now, and its only human nature to not realize it yet, but this theme will be as iconic to the next generation as the previous one is to us. So in the interest of being a part of history, I am going to fully embrace this theme NOW, and in the future I'll be able to say "Shit you know what, I knew this theme rocked the first time I heard it, but everyone else was a doubter!"

When this song first debuted it wasn't quite there yet. People were bashing it left and right and if you go the video on Youtube people still are.
Obviously nothing can touch the original, but in it's place is a fine replacement.

Great song and when he says "In the world of sports, can there possibly be anything better." It just sends CHILLS down my spine. Awesome! I don't care about the naysers, the other theme will always be classic but this is a pretty damn good replacement!

at the end where Lidstrom holds the cup it is changed now to Crosby holding it i noticed that the 2nd HNIC game this season. and how bout them leafs haha

I don't watch hockey anymore since the rule changes with the strike, but there's no way this song is better than the hockey theme. I understand you want to move on and this is decent and does it's job but it will never be ubiquitous with hockey in this country. Maybe it's unfortunate for the new song because if this were on another broadcast it would be perfectly fine, but it does have the unenviable position of following the hockey theme and it just doesn't cut it.

Also here's a question to the folks over at the US NHL Network: Why do we only get ONE game of the "Hockey Night in Canada" doubleheader? It seems to me that if "Hockey Night" is a doubleheader we SHOULD get both games! Granted we do get to see the second game on Sundays, but that ain't the same!

Does CBC still use it though? I haven't heard them play it at the start of HNIC this season. Instead, they have rock/alternative theme.

This version gets me so pumped on hockey every time I listen/watch it. When it played right before my Leafs opened the season at home against the Canadians.... still sends shivers down my spine thinking of it.

You said it Dude. I have watched this clip dozens of times. It is perfect in every way. Music is great, montage is great and the voices are great. It gives you the same feeling of excitement that you get when you actaully go to a game. I had it posted on my Pee Wee team's website so that the kids could see it and we could discuss it.

Me too - I feel the same way when I watch this clip. All the greats from the past - Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Howe - along with those iconic voices - Foster Hewitt, Danny Gallivan, Bob Cole - I get shivers every time I watch this. CBC did a phenomenal job on this. It makes me proud to be a Canadian and it captures perfectly what this game means to us.

Lemme say that sadly since I'm an American I didn't get to watch HNIC when they had the old "Hockey Theme" so I can't feel the pain that most of Canada has felt with losing "The Hockey Song"
That said I have to tell you that since the US NHL Network has the rights to air Scotiabank's Hockey Tonight, Hockey Night in Canada and After Hours not only has the show grown on me but this beautiful theme song has as well.

Bang on. A buddy of mine from the States is just getting into hockey, and he gets HNiC on his satellite. I described it to him as "the best produced sports show in the world" - a great theme (then and now), beautiful production, iconic voices and history. Ron MacLean is my favourite TV personality ever, and good, bad, or indifferent, everyone should see Don Cherry a few times.

This is a fine replacement to the old anthem that I grew up with and still enjoy. Than said, I don't like the video put together by CBC... It looks terrible and amateurish, and the voice overdubs of the old announcers smack of amateur night. Music = Score! CBC Video = Weak.

People we may not realize it now, and its only human nature to not realize it yet, but this theme will be as iconic to the next generation as the previous one is to us. So in the interest of being a part of history, I am going to fully embrace this theme NOW, and in the future I'll be able to say "Shit you know what, I knew this theme rocked the first time I heard it, but everyone else was a doubter!"

I feel they should have crosby rather then lidstrom.He won the cup last. I personally dont like crosby,but That what I think should be done (and if not,Sakic. One of the best captins ever)
