I'm sorry but I can't see this as "Styx." I can see this as "Tommy Shaw and JY Young Perform the Music of Styx" but without Dennis DeYoung to me this just isn't Styx.
Just to clarify my remarks: DeYoung has a slightly more polished style, but honestly I kind of prefer Gowan's edginess for this song. Viz., I hear more passion in his style.

(When 'Lady' was recorded Tommy Shaw wasn't a member of Styx) The only original member of the band is J.Y. , the tall blonde guitarist, and he looks younger than most of the band. Tommy Shaw is good, but he joined Styx AFTER their third album.
I just saw these guys play this past weekend. And Lawrence isn't so bad. Yeah, he's not original. But he has stuff charisma on stage. They put on a great show with him.
I do wish I could've seen them with Dennis, but as I'm only 16...that was a little out of reach for me. Hahaha.

nobody could ever replace the iconic D D Young, but out of 12 times seeing them about 5 have been with Gowan and I have never left a Styx show regretting that I went. I will continue to go as long as they tour,and I will continue to buy anything they put out to support them. Who else will us old timers support since our favorites are all becoming extinct.Styx will always be the best sounding most energetic rock band of the 70's that is still working today.Don't let it End guys!

Nobody is complaining about Ricky Philipps or Todd Zuckerman being in the band. There is only one original on that stage and it's James Young. Even Tommy came in after at least 4 or 5 albums. So roll with the changes and thank God that we can still go see them live and listen to new music. I would love to see them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If anyone from Styx reads this, I think I speak for millions of people and would like to say thank you for the past present and future of the band!

Gosh, I love styx but Gowan cant sing very well. He sounds like some type of rodant like he's being squeezed. I did however get to see them play this summer and they didnt play this song thankfully. Dennis is a way better singer and is more of a classical professional when Gowan does put on a good show, he gets the crowd going. No he didn't, far from. Every member of Styx had a hand in writing the music on every song. That;s what makes their music so good, it's a balance of all 3 of their talents.
While only one guy gets the credit for each song as far as what you see in the credits, since every member "owned" a song, they would respect that and leave credit to that particular person.
Last note; unlike popular belief, DDY did NOT write the sci-fi sounding midsection of Come Sail Away, that was JY.

Sadly I must agree. My guess is that they need to pay some bills and since Dennis composed most of their hits, he gets paid everytime a song get played on the radio, etc.. Only the registered composers get royalties, not the guys who played the guitar solo, bass, drums, etc.. I heard the bass player from Kansas worked at a tire store for a while. Not sure if it's true but sad if it is.

The problem was that Dennis DeYoung wanted the group to do more artsy show tune music and the rest of the boys said no and gave DeYoung the boot. DeYoung today is busy writing musicals.

He's excellent. Of course this is not gonna be like how DeYoung does it, it isn't DeYoung. It's his own take on it.. I just saw them live last week. He's an excellent musician. You can blame DeYoung for this crap. If his ego hadn't have tried to turn Styx into a broadway show, this would have never happened. Styx is a hard rock band. Paradise Theatre and Fuckin' Kilroy ended this band's era. If I were J.Y. and Shaw, I would have run like hell, also!

No he didn't, far from. Every member of Styx had a hand in writing the music on every song. That;s what makes their music so good, it's a balance of all 3 of their talents.
While only one guy gets the credit for each song as far as what you see in the credits, since every member "owned" a song, they would respect that and leave credit to that particular person.
Last note; unlike popular belief, DDY did NOT write the sci-fi sounding midsection of Come Sail Away, that was JY.

Tommy Shaw that is one of their most popular songs and while both Dennis and Styx are playing their song they should get their their egos out of the air and some together to create some great songs I know I will go too see them

Sadly I must agree. My guess is that they need to pay some bills and since Dennis composed most of their hits, he gets paid everytime a song get played on the radio, etc.. Only the registered composers get royalties, not the guys who played the guitar solo, bass, drums, etc.. I heard the bass player from Kansas worked at a tire store for a while. Not sure if it's true but sad if it is.
