Here's my strategy for defending my home world: I would keep the battle away from my factories and keep building up my force. I would put the rally point in the hear of the battle. I also try to keep the battle around friendly star bases/ tactical structures for fire support. I also make sure that the phase jump inhibitor is there so if the enemy tries to escape I can slaughter them. It works out perfectly every time.
When you arrived from jump it reminded me of that moment when the Enterprise from the recent Star Trek movie attempts to join with the rest of the fleet in orbit around Vulcan...only to find some angry ass from-the-future-Romulans had destroyed them all.
@Hamiltonizer you put are starbase on the planet not out in the open and surround that sucker with hangers with the flak upgrade and as many guns as you can they will attack the guns first since they are in front allowing your starbase a long ass time to bring down the hammer
If there comes a new Sins of a solar empire it would be cool that when a fleet or some structures are destroyed in orbit of a planet that the ruines would form a moon after a while
Yes that's a great Idea, and also there should be scavengers that come to your system to collect debris that still can be used for credits or something.
you should always let the enemy get to you and when his assault is over and his ships destroyed go on a crusade against his worlds with 5 fleets or so
Yes Fleets are hard to discern as being big or small depending on what you make of them. In all if you focus on farming Frigates then your fleet will be nominally larger then if you went for the more specialized and expensive Cruisers

Yeah, It was a 3-way map, the other opponent (hard) was wiped out almost immediatly. I used them as a buffer to enable me to build up my forces. I had had one huge battle before this in which seven of my capitol ships were destroyed. By this time I only had the facilities and resources to slowly build frigates.
Only capital ship to build shoulda been Marza Dread because it's missles woulda been better for defense but that's just my strategy. I love Akkan and Kohl personally the best.

caps, Marza, 3 Kols, 2 Duvons, and a Akkan, and a Sov, the rest is all cruisers and frigs
the marza and kols kill other caps, the Durvons keep them alive to do it, the Akkan give an escape option with armistic, and the Sov robs them blind with embargo
Why the Sov? They don't bring much firepower to a melee and unless your willing to spend creds to get them up to the levels where their fighter squads number enough to make making Hangar Cruisers uneconomical. Even then however their abilities only seem more focused on closing down an enemy trade route or raiding undefended sectors.
I think the cap point would be better spent in another Marza or Duvon. Gotta love that shield restore.

oh, and have a pattern of defenses, not randomly placed structures.
A) have a starbase with two gauss cannons covering each phase lane.
B) Construct several gauss cannons in a smaller ring around your planet.
C) build any factories in an inner ring around your planet.

They don't bring much firepower to a melee and unless your willing to spend creds to get them up to the levels where their fighter squads number enough to make making Hangar Cruisers uneconomical. Even then however their abilities only seem more focused on closing down an enemy trade route or raiding undefended sectors.
I think the cap point would be better spent in another Marza or Duvon. Gotta love that shield restore.
