You say in your description that the plae took off in a tail wind. I wasn't there so I don't know, and yöu were there and you obviously know what the weather conditions were like, but I don't think they would risk taking off in a strong tail wind just for show on what appears to be a quite short runway. Wasn't it crosswind?
Emirate has the worst service ever! If you fly coach and if you are an Indian flying from NYC to Dubai, you probably are in for some Narcissistic treatment.
DON'T FLY EMIRATES unless you are white. They treat Indians and Black people very badly.
I flew on their new A380 thrice now but the staff were the worst of any airlines I have ever been. I didn't have any issues with the ambiance or food.
its wings is so long and strong, holding 4 engines! i wonder if it broken during the flight, that would be a really diaster! i prefer to fly a plane of smaller in size... so A320 or smaller is better suited me! :))
@roryj123ok The airplane must be very low fuel and cargo. But the fuel must be just enough to stop over a nearby airport. And that airport will the facility to to accommodate the A380 (That includes a long enough runway for Heavy/Fully loaded payload Take-offs.)
@torquemenistan The aircraft flew direct to DXB (Dubai) from BHX operating the usual flight. The usualy 777-300ER was simply substituted with the A380 on that day.
The runway may be shorter than some, but it's not short enough that it can't accommodate the A380 for a 6-7 hour flight.
I've flown on the a380 from heathrow to Dubai. It was lovely in side spacious wider seats that were comfortable and wider. Best flight I've ever had. Our connecting flight was on 777-300 or 777-200 can't remember and that was back down to reality
Interesting that the runway is not level. Anyone know the purpose of this? I'm sure it's by design and not due to drunken English construction workers.
I have been to that stechford park by the runway and if a plane was to land and explode the observer would be dead, as the perimeter fence is very close
@mcpcshowcaseHD I think its a one off period..It was for the 70th anniversary of BHX. Emirates fly a 777 there and that is seasonal as its currently a A330. Its such a small airport i cant ever recall a 747 being there.
@mcpcshowcaseHD Yeah, the runway at Birmingham airport isn't long enough for this to be a regular thing for large planes. Presumably because there isn't much of an error tolerence, such as touching down in less-than-perfect conditions, and overshooting the ideal touchdown point by a few hundred metres?
@mcpcshowcaseHD BHX has a runway extension plan but it is quite a few years away from completion. I don't expect the A380 to feature here until the runway extension is open.
mcpcshocaseHD will have a better idea but my guess would be that the current runway is too short for an A380 to be able to carry a full load. The BHX-DXB route is served by the Boeing 777-300ER (even if they do cram in 10 seats per row and have cabin crew who ignore passengers!)
@scottulee it was there for the 70th anniversary but plans are to exstend runway 33/15 so it will be taking over the boeing 777 route to dubai twice a week
@scottulee Just a one off - we had an incident yesterday - Light aircraft - hit the ILS - interestingly it was carrying a "Human Liver" for transplant -
Divisional President of Commercial Operations Worldwide for Emirates Airline based in Dubai predicted Birmingham would also benefit from an A380 in the future, though he would not say when exactly.
The Airport Company has been in discussions with the CAA seeking permission for the Airport to handle scheduled A380 operations.
Excellent video! I'm guessing the runway is longer than it looks on video and the grassy hill obstructs some of it from our view? I know its wrong, but I really miss loud engines.
wow...dude this is a really cool video man...it amazes me how do u always score such cool positions and angles to shoot ya videos ae..totally love it bro..cool stuff!
Great video and thanks for that. Due to a bit of very good luck, my wife and I were inside it when it took off from BHX. It was not 'nearly empty' at all but it did get off the ground very very quickly. It was also very quiet and very smooth. An exellent flight all the way to Dubai.
As I can see in your videos, in Birmingham and Manchester, observation points are provided to the people interested in planes. These areas are public accessible and well equipped. Very close to the taxiways or runways. This is impossible in Italy, where I live. I'm a bit envious, but I'd like to praise your Nation, a clear example of culture and civilization.
ironically, once you're inside airport perimeter, you're not allowed to take pictures, I once took a picture of a Monarch A321 I just disembarqued from the ramp waiting for the bus to the terminal, and the cabin crew told me I wasn't allowed, once inside the terminal you see in several places the "no pictures" sign.... quite the contrast from being inside to outside.
This was a one off for now. I am thinking that before regular service can start the runway will need to be extended. When taking off from Birmingham during this visit the plane was almost empty compared to what it can carry under normal circumstances. This wouldn't be profitable for A380 carriers.
Emirates have already hinted that Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham are likely candidates for regular A380 service in the future.
Yeah its the UK (BHX). This was the first time the A380 has landed in the UK outside of Heathrow (for commercial service). Its been to Farnborough of course for the Air Show.
Actually thats not completely true. A Singapore Airlines one got diverted to Gatwick last year when the fire alarms went off in the Heathrow tower & it had to be evacuated.
The SIA A380 didn't land at Gatwick for commercial service. It was diverted. The A380 has also landed at Farnborough and Filton but again not for commercial service.
agreed, since I caught the train, I had no time to see the landing at the park but seeing the landing from the aviation experiance was ok, I wanted to get closer to the a380 :(, everyone at the aviation place was expecting the plane to park near us... which it didn't.. it was parked at the other side of the peir, I took some amazing shots of the takeoff from the car park :)
I saw the A380 land from a bridge under the flight path by the M42, unfortunately missed the departure as we went to Marston Green as we were expecting it to follow other air traffic. Thanks for the excellent video.
I thought this was a great view. I have several side shots of the A380 landing/taking off so I wanted to get her head on landing and departing, especially with the Runway being smaller than most.
I can confirm wind direction didn't change much at all all day and if I am right I think the wind speed had dropped about takeoff time the noise of the wind on the film is I believe from the engines.because if you look at the grass you can see the back draft.
I was there myself and I have to say your video is very impressive. However anyone who gets the chance to see this aircraft for themselves GO you will not be disappointed.
Superb video! 5*s but only because I can't give more.
No the wind hadn't changed. Planes that took off immediately before and after the A380 took off over our heads. Apparently, it took off in the opposite direction so that it landed and took off alongside the new International Terminal.
AWESOME! 5/5. Thanks for making the effort to go down to Birmingham to record this. It's a shame it didn't land on RWY15 like the 77W you recorded a week or so ago.
