  • No school like old school... I am also glad I grew up with these masterpieces, @TheHardysFan

  • I'm glad I had the chance to grow up with such masterpieces...

  • This song is amazing. They don't make them like they used to anymore.

  • i cant stop listen to this. i played terranigma the first time as i was 8 years old... now i'm 23 and its still my favourite game. i wish they would make such awesome games like this today :/

  • I´m glad I kept my SNES, & my 64 because their games are just great! WHile most of my friends just threw theirs away or sold them! Sucks for them because now a SNES is worth over 1K

  • This game should've been rereleased in the form of a compilation/collection on the ps1 unchanged from its original release.

  • ZOMG. Now I know why so little people know of this game and not many of the music appears in orchestras. Because it was never released in NA!

You really missed out. This game had some of the best music on the SNES.

  • Terranigma, Rudra no Hihou, Seiken Denetsu and Live-A-Live are some of the greatest games (with the best music) I have played, but they never made it to North America!! I don't know about anyone else, but that outrages me!

  • @jamesgrey13 i agree those 4 awesome snes jrpgs never been released in north america also outrages me too those japanese gamers always get the best games and here in america we nothing those japanese gamers are so damn lucky

  • @jamesgrey13 you should play Sansara Naga 2. it is one of the greatest SNES RPG and never been released in North America.

  • Terranigma, the game with the most deliciously awesome plot twist EVER.

I have played countless games. Nothing else compares to the plot twist of Terranigma.

Thinking about Terranigma's plot twist gives me shudders down my spine.

If you haven't played this game yet, please play it at least once before you die.

  • 0:36-1:08 = The manliest tears I have ever shed.

  • when my big bro bought this game for me as a birthday gift back then when i was young.. i wasnt expecting a gift with that big of an impact! amazing game and brings my childhood back

  • Solgryn, here i come...

  • i just cryed ... it's been soo long that i heard this song

  • gahd manly tears...

  • Oh Damn! I want back in my childhood. Played this game soooo often. The music, the story, the OH DAMN EFFECT!!! all of this is given in terranigma. I love it. I am so happy that i allready have my snes with this game. i play it every year till the end^^

  • Ive never played this game but this song is awesome it reminds me of the great songs from video games I have played as a kid. And anyone can get back to me if they agree that VIDEO GAME MUSIC IS THE BEST of all music anywhere @ericKZhang When I have a kid I want to do the same thing I want him to play the same games I played to have the best childhood like I did anything to prepare young kids for this at times harsh world.

  • @gades9999 You've never played this game... you should be ashamed of yourself...

  • @spike132000

Not everyone was so fortunate. Even I wasn't fortunate, and I absolutely enjoyed illusion of Gaia and games similar to it, despite there being so few like it. Plus, downloading a game like this would seam almost insulting to the dev team. Though, probably not as insulting as say Nintendo not having it on Virtua Console. Note to Nintendo, COME ON ALREADY.

  • you know what? if i have a kid, i'll make this his first game, i wont care about the high tech holographic or whatever it may be console he'll have in the future, i'll make him play this before any other game.

  • @EricKZhang I think I#ll do the same.

    Best...friggin....game ever.

  • @EricKZhang Yeah I would give my kid first the old consoles and the old games in the correct order so that he/she/it know what good games are :P

  • @EricKZhang man just because of this statement i respect you deeply cause i've been thinking the same thing myself for quite a while(since i finished playing the game :P).

Terranigma is my favorite game of ALL TIME! i doubt that i'll experience in any other game what i have experienced in this one :) .

BTW do you know of any other game that resembles Terranigma? cause i'd love to play it- i mean the soundtracks during the whole game have been simply AMAZING.

  • @0twaster0i02 An old genesis game called Landstalker plays like this game..

  • @0twaster0i02 Illusion of Gaia, Sansara Naga 2, Glory of Hercules 3 resemble this game.

  • the entire concept of this game was awesome...i swear, i missed a lot of instant classic growing up, but now im finding them all as a young adult where i can truly appreciate the kinds of music and stories people are capable of telling....i love the digital era

  • im crying best game ever

  • Fucking wonderful game.

  • Whoever brings the "boshy" crap into this vid i swear ill slit their throat, thank you!

  • I had no idea that Terranigma was part of the Soul Blazer series! I'm going to have to go back and play Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia to see if I can't find the connection.

  • @RantingGeorgiaJew Lol... Illusion of Gaia is a spiritual successor to Soul Blazer and Terranigma is a spiritual successor to Illusion of Gaia. All of them were made by Enix and have a similar play style.

  • I remember this when I heard this music:

"On this day, *insert country/continent name here* was resurrected."

    A classic favourite.

  • I was insanely underleveled when I finished the game, but, thanks to the state save feature on my emulator, I was able to finish my one-damage-per-hit battle over the course of three months.

For anyone asking, no i don't have a life.

  • @AreThereAnyGoodNames Grinding would be a lot faster. I was at lv 28 when I first fought him and he destroyed me, so I headed back to the Neotokyo sewers and grinded for about 30 minutes until I got to level 31 before going after Dark Gaia again.

  • i Love that Sky while you walk ^^

  • El mejor juego sin dudarlo.

  • SO DEPRESSING BUT GOOD

  • zelda a link to the past and terranigma are the best games on snes ... still

the story of this game is to big and to long to tell it anyone who didnt played it.

never seen a game again with such a good storyline for today.

    sad...

  • What really messes me up is the fact that their sky is all topsy-turvy like they surround their atmosphere. Mainly because the theory of gravity states that these guys should be falling UP into their weird ass sky... I think too much :)

  • @SirFair1 I think that blue thing is supposed to be the Gaia Stone or something.

  • @BrimstoneLandscapes Wouldnt that be at the centre of the Earth?

And if so, wouldnt these guys be obeying gravity, falling onto the Gaia Stone or whatever it is?

  • @SirFair1 Well it's a videogame, physics don't matter worth shit. I personally would be more bothered by rocks having the capability to create magical explosions if I were you, lol.

  • @BrimstoneLandscapes ...Yes...that does worry me. However I now think that this might be Earth but in a darker dimension or something, and as such, the world they see becomes warped to the point where the sky looks like a titanic sphere above them but really, it's just the sky.

  • @SirFair1

Let's all just shrug and say "a wizard did it"

  • i saw a top 10 ranking of an internet site on the net,

and their places are rated who the most copies are sold of...

    sad..

  • So who, like me, wandered around aimlessly each time they went in the map, purely because of how good this music actually was? I did the same thing in the overworld! You never got to hear the entire tune otherwise!

  • @J33662 HaHa this statement is SOOOOO true I would do this for idk how long just because of the music =)

  • i just started playing this game yesturday and oh boy if anything this game does compete with chrono trigger these games are gold ladies and gentleman

  • why the fuck was i so young when this came out(4). i'm playing it on an emulator now, and it's amazing.

  • I Love Terranigma!!! The music is so epic! 5*

  • Better than Crono Trigger? Terranigma is an amazing game, but be wary of such bold statements!

  • @strikerk agreed. Chrono Trigger was the epitome of perfection in my book... this comes close but not close enough to be better.

  • @strikerk chrono trigger wasn't the end all be all game

it had its weaknesses (mostly boring linear dungeons being one of them)

naturally terranigma had its weaknesses aswell but overall in my personal opinion it was still the better game

  • I love this melody, it brings me back to my childhood. Wow precious memories, i could not thank enough the person who did this melody. Thank you for the upload incrediblevossman. take care everyone :)

  • @S1rWakka I basically did the same thing but in reverse order, saw both Lufia 2 and Terranigma at the store, bought Lufia 2, tracked down Terra later.

  • I got this game by accident. I saw a tv ad of some RPG (Lufia 2) and decided to get it since I LOVED Secret of Mana. I didn't correctly memorize the name and thought Terranigma had to be it, since RPG's were pretty rare in NL back then. Upon noticing my flaw, I decided to give it a shot cuz I only had to return the game on the next day. It didn't take long to realise that I had made one of my best mistakes ever at that shop! PS Don't worry, I also picked up Lufia later after some saving :)

  • One word to describe this game: immortal.

  • I have to admit that I never got to beat this game (I got stuck somewhere and didn't bother to look up what to do next D: ...) but! I just love the music. Especially the underworld theme. It's so freaking awesome. <3 Also all the ways you could attack with you spear ... brilliant!

  • EPIC GAME, playing it right now

  • Terranigma...

    what a wonderful game.

  • @firehead129 I guess I'm stupid because it sounds just like every other fucking shitty RPG ever made

  • @MegaBlackDays

Could you tell me why you hate RPGs so much? I myself would play RPGs instead of shitty games we have nowadays. Oh, and tell me one song that sounds similiar to this one.

  • @firehead129 if you dont like the game you're more then stupid ;)

  • @firehead129 ^ what he said

  • @firehead129 amen bro

  • Terranigma or ChronoTrigger

some say the first is better, some say the second is better

    To me, they are equal

  • Final Fantasy IX

    Terranigma

    Chrono Trigger

    The best games in existence.

  • @ZidaneTribal93 really FF IX? its good, but its not even near the top 3 of best games ever.

  • Best game ever.

  • I don't understand this world. What exactly is it?? I forget the story. Is it like a genesis world that's not yet developed or something.?

  • if you don't live in Europe or japan, GET THIS ROM!

  • Hands down the best game on the Super Nintendo that never made it to North America. Had this game actually made it over here, it would be just as revered as Final Fantasy VI, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger are.

This is coming from somebody who bought Seiken Densetsu 3 for $150 in 1996 and thought it was the greatest thing ever. When emulation started to get good I played Terranigma (Tenchi Sozou) and was blown away at how good it was.

  • @FamiDude Why are you pretending that JRPGs are the best games on the SNES lol?

  • @FamiDude "Had this game actually made it over here, it would be just as revered as Final Fantasy VI, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger are."

    it IS just as revered

    just not in the US^^

  • @FamiDude SNES Samsara Naga 2 too. it is similar to Terranigma. so sad but beautiful story, so sad but beautiful music, and has acquired a highly devoted by specific group of fans. (director and composer are the same person as Ghost in the Shell.)

  • @FamiDude I got into this game as well due to emulation, it is absolutely incredibly and I can't seem to put it down, sad that games like this never make it to north america to get more respect (Seiken densetsu 3, front mission, front mission GH, super robot taisen etc), they truly would be up there with chrono trigger, ff6 etc., though those are amazing games as well, they're not the only ones out there.

  • Its one of the most epic rpgs i've ever played. very epic soundtrack. epic story. i love it!

  • awesome fucking game. one of the best on SNES

  • This is my all time favorite SNES game. It beats chronotrigger, FF6, and secret of mana. I love this song as well as the game.

  • amazing music

  • This song always mades me a tear in the eye! such a great GREAT game!

  • such an amazing game. my friend reccomended to me and all i can say is wow.

  • My god... flashback to my childhood. Just Wonderful!

I wonder, what i would feel, when i hear this at my deathbed again.

I think i would be totally satisfied.

  • I played this at a friend's recommendation, and was floored by how good it was. It is truly a travesty that this one never made it stateside.

  • One of the best Games there ever was and there ever will be

  • This is one of the best games ever made

  • BEST GAME EVER

  • true....true

  • /signed

    Best Japano-RPG of all times!!!

  • @ANiggaNamedShaquil I agree with you but Silent Hill aligns with this. I can't say which is superior but both is God.

  • Underworld is so bizzare, Makes me feel really strange

  • and btw this cant be part 3 of Soulblazer and Illuision of gaia, cuz is never was realesed in US, it would be more clear if it would be part 3 to soulblazer and Illusion Of time...(Euro) take care

  • It is the third part, it was just a very dumb move to release it everywhere else. The games were made in Japan, just because the final part never hit the USA doesn't make it an entirely separate game.

  • I need to clarify my last post, I meant it was dumb to not release it in the USA, I'm glad every other place got to enjoy Terranigma, but I am upset the USA never got a release.

  • You can thank christian extremists that made Nintendo think it was destined to fail because of its different view of the creation of the world.

  • I dunno. Japanese games in the West have been giving the middle finger to Evil Christianesque Churches since Breath of Fire 2, and gotten away with it.

  • maybe the inside is the outside, ? Rpgs Most Epic and perfect Theme!

  • I really think this game and especially this soundtrack is the best ever made, this here can even beat most of the 3D RPG's made for PS3,Wii and Xbox... good old times

  • amazing.

  • Lovely, so beautiful, great great memories!

  • This music is stunning, I also like the continental resurrection theme once Ark reached the top of the towers. What a great game.

  • ichh abs grad getabed wers für gitarre ham will anschreiben ^^

  • I have this game (cartridge only, but still) and I've finished it like four times on my PAL SNES.

This is probably the best song from the game.

  • Best song in game..

    Old school FTW!!

  • When I hear this it makes me think that all hope is lost, but will found once again by a great hero...

    ;w;

  • this game is too great, maybe they just had to add more movements and/or attacks but for the rest this is the best game i ever played in my life, it took great of my time when i was child =)

  • Bad controls? Seriously? You got one button for dash, one for jump, and one for attack. Oh, and item. What more did you need?

  • maybe he configured the buttons like: q=a-button, m=b-button, x=y-button and p=x-button^^ that would be very poor XD

  • Perhaps he meant controlling it on a computer sucked?

  • @BookenTheBlue Who said that this game had bad controls?? It's pretty easy, one button for each action!

  • Get a controller? And once you do that, go look up how an SNES controller looks like and base your configuration on that. Bad controls, what the hell? If you're playing it on a computer, you can make the controls whatever you want!

  • You cant beat the real cart game played on a real snes console!

  • That blue stuff at the top of the underworld. Isn't that supposed to be a dark Gaia, a dark sun or something? I remember something about a gaia stone.

  • Actually I think it resembles the overworld, shining through the surface.

Woops, old comment. Oh well :/

  • @RPGHacker86: Nah, the overworld is under Ark's feet in this view. What's above him is... the Earth's core, I guess?

  • I wouldn't necessarily say so. Ark is inside of earth, so it's like you're walking inside of a wheel. Even if you're standing on the wheel, you can still see the wheel when you're looking upwards. You get what I mean? So the earth's surface is actually both, below him and above him at the same time.

  • Nope, since if that were the case, when the surface under his feet moved in one direction, the surface above his head would move in the other direction, but that is clearly not the case, looking at the map while he is walking. By another argument, the curvature is also wrong.

  • You've got a point there. Well personally I think they just fucked up :/ ... It's still possible that the underworld is like a ball in a ball that Ark is walking on. I know the shape still doesn't make any sense, but oh well... Probably they didn't even intend that effect in the first place :P ?

  • The overworld is definitely under Ark's feet; after all, he jumps DOWN (from his perspective) a hole to reach the surface, and jumps DOWN another hole to get back, later in the game.

And above Ark, when he's in the underworld, is quite possibly Crystal Blue. The village elder tells Ark that the Cryspear can only heal him while he is "under Crystal Blue", and so it won't work in the overworld. The appearance of the "sky" on the underworld map does look bluish.

  • Oh, well, I guess you're right on the first point (But maybe it's a magical portal that warps Ark to another place? OLOLOLOLOL!). Anyways about the crystal blue I'm not that certain. As I said I think it might as well just be an unintended sideeffect. I mean it doesn't look like crystal blue, or does it?

  • I think the programmers at Quintet were competent enough to make the overworld and underworld look however they wanted it to look. Second guessing what parts of the game were "mistakes" and what parts were "intended" is meaningless, anyway, since what matters is the game, the finished product.

  • I know, the game is awesome and that is what counts, don't we both share that opinion ;) ?

Yeah, you're right about the competence of Quintet. I wasn't even serious, I just wanted to win our little controversy ;) !

Talking about Quintet: It's sad they aren't making any games like Terranigma nowdays (do they even still exist at all, as a part of Square Enix, or did they disappear?). If there is one game that I would drop any other game for then it would be a remake or port of Terranigma.

  • Just googled it up. It seems like the game developer Quintet indeed doesn't exist in the same way it did back then anymore, Quintet or some members of Quintet are only known to work on other games sometimes. Even their website was shut down in 2008. It's really sad :( ! I'd really like to see a game developer like that again. It was a game developer like I've seen none other so far.

  • Oh hell, yah I forgot all about this game...a gem in the SNES collection!!

  • One of my favorite songs on the SNES.

  • My favourites on SNES (in any order):

Terranigma (Underworld; Overworld; Mountains; Leim´s Quest)

Donkey Kong Country 2 (Simian Symphony; Crystal Mines; Castle Theme)

Secret of Mana (Dark Star; Calm Before The Storm; Eternal Recurrence)

Mystic Quest Legend (Final Boss Theme)

Zelda - A Link To The Past (Dark World Theme)

    Mega Man X (Zero´s Death)

Secret of Evermore (The Queens; Puppet Song; White Castle Town)

    Super Metroid (Brinstar)

  • At the risk of sounding cheesy:

I think that "Terranigma" is of the best games ever produced in the history of console entertainment.

I still don´t know how many hours I´ve spent playing this in my childhood - it must have been countless!

It fascinated me from the very beginning, I have never seen so much depth in a single game, in combination with music that gave me goose bumps every time I listened to it.

I will always think of it as a really beautiful and epic game that sweetened my life!

  • What's cheesy about expressing how you feel for one of the greatest games hardly anyone has heard of?

  • So true I agree... I still try to convince my friends to play this game..

  • What an epic game... I got kind of bored of the gameplay but finished it for the story. The underworld is awesome.

  • I'd say, this game was even better than Chrono trigger. Also this is the best track of the soundtrack :D

  • @Xarmuks Many people claim certain games are better than Chrono Trigger. This is the only game where such a claim has validity, though it is still debatable.

  • @Xarmuks

    I agree.

Too bad this game is so underrated.

It's the best game on the SNES in my opinion.

  • This game blew me away the first time I played it. The music, the system, the story... I forgot why I even got into it or how since it wasn't released in America due to its play on religion (at least I think that's why), but it's still a masterpiece. I'd rank it as my 3rd favorite SNES game, behind Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger.

Hammer Story, unvergleichlicher Soundtrack. Jo, auf jeden Fall Gänsehaut..

  • The best game of SNES

  • I would put it second...right behind Chrono Trigger.

  • Earthbound is overrated trash.

  • Einfach nur Gänsehautstimmung!

  • i luv this game

  • i'll love those days and terranigma Foreeeeeeeverrrrrrr

  • omg soo cool memories :O
