nice review man , i now have an e75 , and i want to get the n97 , and i'll get the latest 2.0 finware update right away , but will the finware update have any bugs , from nokia forums , they say u should back up your stuf , hard reset , than restore it , will the software update cause any problems to the phone ?? and does that phone has an email ringtone ?? or a facebook notification ringtone ??or vibration ??and can i open files on ovi on it ?or edit office documents after an office update?
Is it possible to show multiple calendar entries on the homescreen of items which are seperated by weeks? On my old N95 the screen only showed upcoming items within a few days. Items a week from now don't appear on the main screen and I find that lacking.
Thanks for the rating - In the end, all of my crystal cases got damaged/cracked, which is a shame as I particularly liked the black rubberized one (not shown in this video). I've since gone over to using a felt-type sleeve which keeps the phone clean. You can get the black rubberized & crystal clear cases from eBay very cheaply.
Hey me again, thanks your videos have really helped me, few questions is it true the black one is made in china and the white in finland? also camera lens scratching? and how come the keyboard dosnt light up when you slide open the qwerty?
also where did u get your case? does it come with a screen protector?
PS: Vodafone's firmware update seems to have ironed out some of the firmware bugs still plaguing non-network N97's (just my observation from comments on the official Nokia forum) - although the firmware upgrade came a few weeks later than Nokia's official upgrade, I suspect this was because they were customizing the firmware to iron out remaining errors Nokia hadn't had time to complete.
Very good - it's a 1500mAh battery & it lasts me all day with medium/heavy useage (eg, live streaming on the internet with Qik, wireless & GPRS internet access for emails/Facebook/Instant Messaging. As I write this, I've been using the phone fairly heavily today & there are 3 bars left (out of 5 or 6).
I do tend to charge it up overnight (my charger is next to my bed)...but I do that with most devices..I basically treat it like a laptop really.
hi n97..I would like to know if N97 has a messaging option that will let us see messages on a flow just like iphone/windows mobile/blackberry..where we can see past meesages in one screen..does it have a 'chat' option..hope to hear from you soon.. Thanks..
nimbuzz (3rd part freeware app) that I'm using is pretty good for that. There's also another app that someone's told me abt in my inbox so I'll try that too :)
I personally prefer the black one...I just like black phones, though, so I guess you'll just have to decide one way or another based on what you want. Some people have said that the white phone might be more 'stealable' ie more likely the target of thieves, but to be honest I don't think they care much what color the phone is :)
There's room for 5 large tabs, within which you can have 2 tabs devoted to multiple shortcuts with 4 each - I'll post a weblink to a screenshot here so you can see what I mean. In terms of live updates - I've only tested with email & facebook so far...if I get the chance I'll see if I can put a web page there like igoogle & see if it does a live update (that'd be cool if it does).
No, not in this current firmware - but you can bet your bottom dollar that's something that many peeps will want for the next firmware release - certainly something many people woud find useful if they don't want to use the keyboard. I prefer the real qwerty keyboard over a touchscreen qwerty, but I guess it wouldn't be hard to implement one in a firmware upgrade....go to the Nokia forums & suggest it if you want.
I should hope so :) Nokia would have a lot of very cross users who would undoubtedly march straight over to Sony/Samsung/Apple's camp pretty quick!
Firmware upgrades are always free for existing users - as I say, I'm very happy with the phone even now...maybe I'm just easily pleased, as admittedly I became a fan of the N97 as soon as I got news of it last December..I just **love** the real qwerty keyboard (I used to have a pda with qwerty...but it didn't have a phone or camera).
Hey just watched this video, and im stuck between the same 2 phones as you, Omnia HD or N97. Personally I have already had a N95 for 18 months, you can already have youtube and facebook on it, think I may be going Omnia HD on this one, if N97 had a slightly better camera id go with it.
Cool - if you could share some of your experiences of the Omnia HD when you get it, that'd be great - posting a reply video to mine would be interesting (if you have the time)...it's always interesting to see what people like about phones & why they decide to go for a particular model...I get annoyed when people start getting into flame wars about phones, as much of it is subjective or down to personal preference - so if you can post a video at some point, that'd be great (no pressure though!)
Hi, I was thinking about getting the N96 but I would rather have this thugh I have never had a touchscreen phone and Im really not sure.. Is it really hard to handle as a new touch user? Also, If I buy this on Pay as you go, Will it connect to my home internet connection, or do I need to pay for mobile intrnet?
I'm finding a great bonus having the touchscreen (my 1st touchscreen phone)...you should be able to connect to your wireless network at home with no probs...there's a lot of choice as to how to connect to the internet.
Fair criticisms! I should've gone to a different classroom (I'm a Physics teacher) where the signal is much better to do the review..I just grabbed some time quickly without testing out the connection first....it was actually right in the back corner of a lab with very thick walls & on my old phone I'd never get any signal at all.
I've been using both YouTube/Qik/Facebook & of course web browsing regularly over the last week with no problems - I'll try & do a more in-depth of them soon. n97boy
It *is* a very good phone - especially if you like live broadcasting, out-of-the-box gps mapping, kbd for quick typing, & very good video & still imaging all in the same package.
I reckon the iPhone 3GS is just as good, but it doesn't have a real keyboard, and that sucks as far as I'm concerned. I did a head-to-head the other day with a friend who's had his iPhone over a year, and I typed at >2x as fast, even though I've only been using the kbd a week...and I love the FM transmitter too :)
Frim the internet - can't remember which company now (some of my other videos might say) - but the crystal one had very weak lugs which snapped after a couple of times post-removing the case.
I recently bought a much nicer matt black one from eBay, but that cracked in one corner after removing it recently, so now I'm using a very cool cover slip felt-type glove which keeps the phone dust-free in my pocket. Got that from eBay :)
why all the n97 have not that silver corner?
redclefto 5 months ago
@redclefto I had the phone in a protective plastic ("crystal") casing (purchased off eBay), so it's not part of the original phone.

Hi mumsbread - Ta for your questions; will try & ansa all here!
1) China vs Finland - not seen any confirmation. My black one is good build quality
2)Scratching - it's not scratched, but grease under cover will smear & I'm able to remove smears with the nokia cloth supplied!
3)My keyboard does light up - it was fixed in my Vodafone firmware upgrade
4)Case - first one: lugs snapped after a week; second one: cracked in corner, so am using a felt cover now - much better
5)Screen protector - yep :)

It's so hard to chose between this and the samsung omnia HD i8910
I've been contemplating between the two..
I love the whole touch screen with the omnia
but the qwerty on this is good too.
