TV Smith, the singer, read a newspaper article when Gary Gilmore was about to be executed where Gary said he wanted to donate his eyes to science. He wrote a short story about how fucked up it would be to have surgery, get donated eyes and wake up to have a murderer's eyes. He's hardly trying to immortalize or celebrate a murderer.

In case you don't know. Back in 76/77 in The U.S.A Gary Gilmore a serial no good law breaker and eventual murderer was on death row. His Lawyers were trying to stop the excecution but Gilmore wasn't having it. He said (paraphrase)"Its been sanctioned that I die and I accept that...butt out!!" He was subsequently excecuted by electric chair and he donated his body to science...hence "Gary Gilmore's Eyes"
