Want a quick missile, google "thor" missile. Very interesting concept. Thor missile is fired, then once it nears the target the missile fires off three tungsten projectiles that can penetrate anything with their pure kinetic energy. I would love to see the US develop it rather than the brits. Nothing against the brits, they just wont utilize it fully...

@Rightwinggolfer You have to realize that there are two Thor Missile Systems, one is an ICBM, or Intercontinental Ballistic Missle, and another version similar to a TOW Missile, but yes the version you are describing is much more effective than the LOSAT here in this video. LOSAT is good against heavily armored targets while Thor has much more variety in operative environments. Thor > LOSAT, I won't argue any other way. Good job Rightwinggolfer

@geren11 The missile you are referring to with the three darts is the Starstreak. It is a man portable anti-air missile. The non-ICBM Thor is not a ATGM but designed to defeat IEDs. This missle here travels at close to Mach 5.  I have see the whole video and this target tank was obliterated, not just the turret being popped off. I'd bet it would kill any current or planned tank.

Hey guys, it's called "editing". When they film tests like this, if they intend to release it publicly, they put a microphone on the other side of the target so they can get good sound and use that instead of the camera's audio. That's why the doppler effect reverses right before the explosion; it's just gone past the microphone.

Yes, that is a bit confusing. But it has an answer.. The momentum of the missle is boosting the sound of the propelant burning, that's why you hear it approaching.

Most likely the camera and mic were at a long distance away from the tank so tank and they had to alter the audio. Same as when you see a baseball game ... the mic is near the plate while the cameras are way back in the stands. The camera can zoom in, but folks like hearing the bat hit the ball as if they were standing as close as the camera "appears" to be.
