you can obtain the powder by CAREFULLY cutting open a shotgun shell - that guy was crazy to mix the magnesium and the powder in the cop like that - i have never seen those party snap things before

Just don't use ammo grade powder. The pellet shaped grains make more sparks than smoke. unless you ground them up a little. Pop rocks' as the saying goes makes a little smoke themselves so add up the mix. Also don't use instant "Fake"sugar. kills the whole thing. Flint is preferred due to its self sparking nature. Ammo grade or home made powder has more explosive + spark potential than flint does. Powder will work but will be more unstable.
