Quite heavy on the bird sfx. Heavily compressed soundtrack. This music has been made into a separate Suite called Wartime Sketches. Has several movements.
This film was originally entitled 'Went the day well?' ; is this the US title? The plot was shamelessly cribbed by Jack Higgins for his 'The Eagle has Landed' , a relatively dreadful film compared to this original masterpiece. Walton's music has for many years been available on the Chandos CD under the title 'Wartime Sketchbook' , a collection of his wartime scores edited by Christopher Palmer. Did you mean 'Careful, don't trip over that stiff upper lip' 'Yes, thanks awfully, old chap.' ?
very interesting. much like the 1970s film with michael caine " the eagle has landed." german solidiers buried in village churchyard. that was a very good film too! will give this one a watch. thanks!
I say old chap, rather queer these nazis, aren't they?

the interesting thing is: was Alberto Cavalcanti a kin of that poet Guido Cavalcanti that was mentioned by Dante in "Divina Comedia"?
does anybody know?
