    Hey, the same reason we use rhythm. Play something without rhyhm, it will make no sense, nobody will be able to hear what it should be etc

    Random notes will just sound .. yeah.. random..nothing else. Try get Magic Piano app for iPad, it has a function just spitting out completely random notes. then you will get my point :)

    Also, why would you only need 12 keys in an octave? It's just how the west invented music. in ancient cultures 1/8 tone intervals have been used :-)))

  • your a piano guy, I am a camera guy... to make it easy for you get one of your several friends to help you film so you can focus on the lesson and not worry about the cam (as if you didnt think of that before).... and or you can get 2 camera angles one from above the keyboard and an additional fixed angle, that way when you edit you can select which view or angle you want to show, that way your videos will have an added value. Im learning allot thanks for your kindness.

  • I've learn that pointer finger will be used for black thumb for white and extra white notes with third finger.

  • To get a bit more legato you can use (starting on c) 1-(2)-3, 1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3. However, because both of these methods require getting the thumb out of the way, you will not be able to play at speed (fast). You need to use as many fingers as possible, without the thumb. So, starting on E: 1-2-3, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4-5. Always remember, speed comes from changing the position of the arm, thus the hand, as you move up or down the scale. The fingers are just along for the ride.

  • @yawie22 yes, that's the wrong way. the fingers should be pointed away from the direction of movement of the hand. so, if you are playing up the piano, the hand moves to the right and the fingers point toward the bass. When you come down, it's just the opposite. The fingers follow the wrist, which follows the hand. Speed comes from how fast you can change the where the hand and arm is (use your arm muscles) & let the fingers follow along. don't swivel the hand or wrist- let the arm do the work

  • I was having a lot of trouble making a melody with a scale in mind. They always sounded random and terrible. I kept looking at the keys of a scale rather than focusing on their relation in spacing. Because a melody is more about how it flows. So don't decide on a scale first. Instead just pick a random section of a scale pattern. Like a chunk of notes and just play with it. If you find something cool then expand your selection and experiment. Eventually you'll choice in scale will appear.

    the circle of fifths is used to find your key signature (what notes in a key are flattened or sharpened). that is one use, i'm not quite clear on the other uses for it, but ya i just finished watching the circle of fifths video, i still need some one on one time with the circle to learn more about it

    Exactly. Or listen to the lessons on a laptop you can carry around OR transfer the videos to an iphone, blackberry or other smartphone. He has done the hard work so lets try to do some ourselves

My father never allowed me to learn anything musical, although everyone could tell that I truly did want to (I had to do sports ick) & my little sister did get to play (ugh) I actually used to "borrow" her old books but I could never understand them very well. thank you so much for helping me to learn how to understand and play, I can never repay you enough for helping me to learn something that I love.   • I started laughing when you were waving your hand on the piano, but the reality is it actually worked for me. I stopped my hands from cramping down on the keys, that's a pretty good technique you guys! If you practice it every now and then I'm sure your hands will start to move smoothly across the piano.

  • this is unless..i respect your effort of trying to teach, but i doubt any1 can learn how to properly play only with your fingers which need to be developed slowly through many years and not by watching youtube, there are too many factors to be considered when playing, to achieve correct position and being able to be loose from your back and shoulders to arm and wrist and ending this huge motion only through the fingers with achieving correct sound, can be thought with a professional teacher only
