  • Juan Alderete, one of the greatest bassist of all time. Surely!?

  • the bassist alone deserves 5 mil views

  • Comment removed

  • juan alderete is fucking amazing, he's obviously mad skilled in this, but his stuff with the mars volta is also fucking mind-blowing

  • Lol at gilbert using his teeth, epic!

  • Wow the quality is really clear, thanks dudton

  • What's the song they play after Scarified in the DVD? That's what I've been trying to find out!

  • Bet you neither El Mistico or Rey Misterio can play that on Bass \m/

  • this concert was in poland ?

  • @VROCK222 Nie, za to matka Gilberta jest Polką ;) Pewnie stąd ten T-shirt.

  • @VROCK222 ale jajca ja pierdole :D fajnie :D

  • rey mysterio on work!!! best on inside and outside ring :)

  • He deserves some cake for this right here.

  • what year was this?

  • El Fuerte on BASS!!!

  • so sexy it hurts. . .

  • poland rocks

  • It kinda seems tuned down a little? Anyway I just came

  • @RandyPWNZ I was thinking the same thing.

  • @RandyPWNZ Yeh the're playing it in Em instead of Fm which was the original key, and Pauls solo version on Spaceship One is in F#m :)

  • Thumbs up for not tilting the guitar up for the string skiping at the end

  • My Polish-American Brother - Paul Gilbert ripping!

  • is that juan alderette?

  • WOW!.

  • where the hell is Bruce?!!?!?!! i need him in the final string skipping part.

  • El Luchador!!!!!

  • Poland!!!!

  • Scott Travis is doing a great job on the drums, same way on Pauls Guitar play!

  • that are my idol

    perfect band

  • hmm this seems different from lal the versions i have heard but its still fantastic

  • look at the basist.

    He did not use pick.

  • @zirize holy crap

  • @zirize That's because the song was written that way

  • @zirize juan alderete is the only reason im here

  • sounds great

  • Does anyone know the amp-settings to get this sound?

I love that sound, but i dont know how to get it, friends couldn't help either :(

  • amp settings? you need more than that dude, pickups, wood, picks, technique, amp, amp settings, if you want to literally sound the same as this, you need paul's exact gear, plus his hands and technique

  • @thediem667 Yeah, that's actually Pauls trademark. His tone doesn't only come from his gear (alot of it does, of course), but parts of it comes from his technique.

  • jeez, this sounds like paul at his best

  • I never thought that much of juan alderate as a bassist till i saw this. he kicks ass.

  • that diminished run at the end is such a hard thing to play because of all the stretching and string skipping ....man you gotta be verry confidant to play it live for shure

  • 2002

  • It's fucking Juan Alderete.

  • @JonoTehMuffinMan wearing his mask way before vato negro lol

  • @JonoTehMuffinMan thats the only reason i looked up this band

  • no its not, wrong person

  • thats billy sheehan? with the mask?

  • Billy Sheehan.

Whether your serious or not I don't know but 3 obvious factors show it's not billy sheehan

    1. Wrong Bass (He doesn't use Fenders)

    2. Wrong Build (Billy isn't that Bulky)

    3. Characteristics are different

(Billy shows alot more enthusiasm and energy when he plays)

    CLEARLY NOT BILLY

  • i tunes doesnt have this song does anyone know where i can get this song at? or who was the original artist of this song if thats the case

  • Racer X

  • is juan alderete playing with rACER X

  • i think now he only plays with the mars votla

  • for sure dude man tomorrow i get 2 see mars volta its gonna b sweet but that might b juan cuz that mask represents the logo for his side band vato negro

  • damn that fucking bass shreds.

and Paul Gilbert is amazing as always

  • This is the first song I've heard Paul Gilbert play. I wish I had found out about him earlier.

  • Gilbert is a beast

  • Dear fans. Paul Gilbert Birthed Buckethead out his ass. Hallelujah!

  • ROFLMAO!!!! very, very true!

  • how big his hand is

  • Paul gilbert Pinky FTW!

  • Yes And the Challenge IS Adapting that!

  • Paul Gilbert teeth FTW!

  • what the fuck is up with the bassist??!

how is he playing the bass like a guitar?!

i guess its all in the mask. XD

  • The bass guitar is a guitar. Hence the name.

  • You can never play a bass guitar like a guitar unless you're

    Cliff Burton

    Jaun (RACER X)

    Linus Of HollyWood (Gilbert Scarified)

Or Just A fucking psychopath with long fingers and sensibly sized frets.

  • and what about billy sheehan?

  • billy sheehan maybe?

  • or billy sheehan

  • awesome solo, thats one of the best improvs for this song ;) I always thought this song was either standard tuning or half a step down, i guess most will work.

  • If only I killed the bass like Juan, I too could wear a luche libre mask and still be bad-ass.

  • Kinda funny that every1 talks about the bassist. I guess it gotta do with the fact that scott and paul are so fucking awesome that people dosent need to say it. This is a fucking dreamteam of musicians =)

  • What an amazing tone he's got here !

  • how come u cant hear the crowd?

  • i now have a video lesson on this for anyone who wants to learn it!

  • Great track..and so good bassist!!

  • He's just there undercover, he's really a mexican wrestler superhero.

  • nice bassist!

  • wow sounds like the studio version

  • he looks like he's doing a bloody warm up!

  • Paul's the man. Too bad Ritchie Sambora can't play like that.

  • Gilbert is the man.

  • LUCHAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • did he play that in a different key or something it sounded flatter.

  • Yep, both the guitar and bass are tuned down a tone (whole step). Normally it's done in standard (spaceship one version) or down a semi-tone (half step, 1987 racer x version)

  • do you know if the studio version is in standard tuning i havcent heard the studio version before

  • The studio version can be heard here (watch?v=Azubtw2qOqk) and it's down a semi-tone.

  • its tuned a step down.

    well spotted;)

  • yeah, i think it sounds a lot nicer tuned down.

  • i think they're playing it in E, which is really bizzare

  • its not, its in D standard: DGCFAD

  • i was referring to the key it was in, but that tuning makes sense

  • sorry i have no idea about keys etc, I can just pic out the odd note:')

  • yo i was lookin for racer x on itunes and the band isnt on there do u no where i can find their songs? can anyone help?

  • You can most likely buy their CDs on the band's website or just look for it on Google.

  • Look for torrents on Mininova, The pirate bay, or isoHunt. Or just go to LimeWire.

  • 1:24 is cool! Haha.

  • one thing i noticed when i saw PG live is that how he completely dominates the guitar and puts every "kinda good at guitar" person the room to shame hardcore. seeing this shit live is insane.

  • at 1:00 BASS TAPPING?!

  • Yeah, he's sick o_O

  • just as fast as Paul. Crazy.

  • this video comes with a Ibanez guitar instructions.... i bought an ibanez gio with that concert!!

  • what has paul gilbert done with his hair? its not as silky smooth as it looks as it has before.:(

consistent guitar and dynamic guitar playing though.:)

still, i feel bad about the hair. DX

  • I'm betting on sweat. Because even in spite of all the available evidence, I still believe deep down that Paul Gilbert is human, and no human being could stand under all those lights and do all those things without sweating bullets. Metaphorically, I mean.

  • No literally :P

  • rey mysterio?

  • Hi--Tech.. Play Paul gilbert

  • Paul fu<king Gilbert!!!!

  • sorry I meant 2:33

  • that lick at 2:13 is brilliant

  • I want to take guitar lessons from Paul Gilbert SO bad

  • @randomclam898889 i am having a guitarlesson with him in stockholm

  • @IverDaBest That's awesome! Tell me what he's like when you take the lesson.

  • @randomclam898889 Buckethead did

  • @randomclam898889 not if i do that first :)

  • His name's actually JUAN Alderete, he just took credit as John Alderete when he was in Racer X... unless you already knew that

  • damn. Flawless

  • Wicked! Love it!

  • anyone know what pickups paul is using here?

  • DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck and a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge.

  • thanks

  • i wish i knew how to play bass while wearing a wrestling mask other than that i'm just gonna stick to listining

  • Best version of this song I have ever seen !!!

  • gota love the the guy who plays this fast on bass without a pick.

  • Juan Alderete... now with the Mars Volta. Unless it way someone different here.

  • nah, its juan

  • Yeah he's insane.

  • John is sick.

I prefer his tone and solos in the 80s, but it's still pretty good here.

  • bass/guitar combo is so great they play the same so the sound is the heaven

  • que molleja de arrecho :O

  • wow they came a long way since they first were playing this song, the guitar parts are struck so much clearer, plus we also have audio recording much better but still their skills have improved, i only heard a couple of mistakes which is incredible for playing live.

  • Dude, the shredders dream!! I tried back in the day to play that shiite and my frickin wrists and hands hurt like f*ck. I'll just listen and enjoy it thank you very much. Yngwie, McAlpine, Gilbert, Petrucci, Vai, Billy Sheehan, etc....it's a mountain to climb

and I know some shredders, as we all do but to get to this level you've got some work to do. Funny how some glam guitar players are more well known worldwide than these Virtuosos

  • cryogenics66 says: "Yngwie, McAlpine, Gilbert, Petrucci, Vai, Billy Sheehan, Funny how some glam guitar players are more well known worldwide than these Virtuosos"

it's all about taste. look at a few of the first shredders, schon and evh. they both had monster talent, but took the pop way to use it. if your music apeals to chicks you sell albums/become famous. btw, i would also add tipton to the list.

  • I'm lovin' it.

  • thts awsome the bassist doesnt use a pick fuckin eh... tht makes this song so much more intense and awsome bass wise

  • Hell yeah dude!!

Respect to the brothers who can play that fast without a pick!

  • I hear you both. I love to shred on songs like this but I never use a pick, as you can see from my videos.

  • I think this sounds bit of bland without second guitar.

  • First day I got my first guitar it was an Ibanez jumpstart pack and I put the dvd in and this song started playing. How someone like Paul can go unknown to mostly everyone but guitar players is unreal.

  • i think hes happy like that though if u think about it. he doenst have paparazzi stalking him, yet hes known enough to make a living. the mans gotta be the happiest guy in the world

  • Hes a musical genius, he doesn't want the glory and is modest which makes him even better, you can just see from the way he acts that hes just in it for the music.

  • wow.... this can't be any cleaner...

  • AwSoMe<3

  • John is such a bust with his Luche Libre mask.

Paul is just tearin' it up as usaul!!

  • this scarified me!

  • cocol t-shirt paul

  • Gave me goosebumps!

  • drunkenxtiger: it was at the Whiskey A Go Go in LA in 2001

  • this doesn't sound as good without a second guitarist!

  • aweshome... is this like a racer x reunion or smth??? post more from this concerT!! or diE :|

  • but theres no bruce bouillet! in fact theres no second guitarist at all

  • w/e its still sexi

  • it was at the NAMM convention.

  • Cool!

  • nice vid paul gilberts the best! (besides becker LOL!!!!)

  • nicing vid
