Lies upon lies and gross manipulation of the media and therefore the public. That's the way it is, the way it always has been and will continue to be. I am not a religious person but what would our lives be like for the short time we are alive it people acually had a conscience and adopted moral values instead of allowing greed and selfishness to rule their decisions. One if everyone actually lived by the greatest rules of ethics - the Ten Commandents. I wonder what our lives would be like.
I agree with the points he makes about the US govt, but does he seem to infer that the UK ever had a higher moral standing? The British weren't exactly being 'gentlemanly' when the sun was high on their empire, you know. Hardly a nation on earth they didn't loot. Give the Americans a break. They just arrived late in the game and they don't know how to put up a 'classy' front.
Rest In Piece Mr. Pinter. Thank you for saying many words of wisdom & opening the minds for many people in the world! This planet needs more people like you!
We often are too quick to agree with arguments that are typically presented on a platter such as these ones. He makes a fair point but I would only advise people to look into things in details. The actions of the american govt in the past may not be representative of its current administration. I will like to point out that though most of his points are true, many have been resolved.
Although we have skeletons in our closet, it was mostly reflective of those in office and the ignorance of the public. And I don't even mean ignorance as in being dumb or literally ignoring, but rather that the public was..."sheltered"?

Exactly.. Mr Pinter was right "AT THE TIME" and of course the sins of the US in the past have been appalling, but we have moved on from the 1950 - 2008 period. In our time we can already see steps being taken to fix these problems. eg Guantanamo and Iraq.
so you belive in the change? com'on "but we have moved on from the 1950-2008 period" thats bullshit and you know its true. what will you call it the next year? the 1950-2009?
Well just as you are choosing to be pessimistic about it, I am choosing to be optimistic. You're right, change isn't guaranteed, but at least hope for the best. Why not give the new american administration the benefit of the doubt before passing your judgement. wahlpage
well, 11 months later there is no doubt. Obama is as biga criminal as bush for he violates the Geneva conventions, which are written in US law, by refusing to prosecute Bush warcrimes.
and he himself commits his share of them, the drone bombing in pakistan etc
Damn, I just wish more people would think. Even under Obama, civilians are still being tortured and murdered. I cannot even vocalize my disgust for the level of imperialism I've witnessed over the last decade. Thank God for Pinter though. R.I.P.

America is run by MAFIA and don't give a shit about the rest of the world, read their nice history.
USA should be given back to the red Indians and Israel should be given the Arab lands back to it's people and stop this nonsense called Terrorism.

I believe he must have been in the late stages of dementia. Clearly he was delusional.

Shame on them !
Brilliant speech indeed .
A great man R.I.P. !
Much of his speech is documented in the book "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins.
