  • I do not to Pavarotti at all,

  • YES Schmidt had the easiest high notes of all Tenors. He s my hero. I m a lyric Tenor mysef and prepare for a career these DAYS. I listen and sing-along everyday to his records. He is the highest measure to me.

  • I cannot find the words to this in german anywhere, is there anyone out here on youtube who could help me out??

As for Schmidt and the video itself, what a shame Schmidt was taken before his time. As an aspiring baritone and as a Jew, I can only sit in awe of this man's exemplary technique and his warm and enchanting voice. Long live the voice of the pocket tenor! May his recordings continue to serve as an example of what a real voice can do!

  • @tasteslikechicken55 (2) ...vom Mai. Ein kleines bisserl Schmerz ist immer auch dabei, dabei, und nur beim Wienerlied, Wienerkuß, Wienerwein bild ich mir ein, schon im Himmel zu sein.

Wenn beim Wein ein Walzer klingt ...

  • @uwemommens Thanks!

  • What a voice,.....

    Thanks for uploading/sharing.

  • A tragic end to a great artist AT AGE 38. His cadenza's PROBABLY BETTER THEN ANY TENOR , LISTEN TO HIS LIVE LA DONNA E MOBILE IF YOU FIND IT FROM HIS NEW YORK CONCERT, CARNEGIE HALL. NO LA DONNA EVER BETTER WITH AN EXTRA CADENZA PLUS DIMINUENDO. FANTASTIC ARTIST.

  • This video honors one of the greatest artists of the 20th century - Those who use this video as others, to let out incompetent und stupid comments about who did what and whose mistake it is and was, should really think about going away and wank themselfs and let us, admirers of great artists, listen and spare us of those stupid comments once and for all.

  • Bester Saenger der Welt,.... bis heute.

  • @medusaview I disagree vehemently.

  • @medusaview I agree with you. But both voices were too small for opera and big halls as my grandfather told me about Schmidt.

  • Europe died with Auschwitz.

We assassinated 6 million Jews in order to end up bringing in 20 million Muslims!

We burnt in Auschwitz the culture, intelligence and power to create.Instead We opened its doors to 20 million Muslims. We exchanged culture with fanaticism, the capacity to create with the will to destroy, the wisdom with the superstition.

We have exchanged the Jews who even under the worst possible conditions have always looked for a better peaceful world, for the suicide bomber.

  • I can not understand your linking of jews and muslims and I hope sincerely, that you´re not going to advise any bad treatment of the one or other man nor millions of man. But I want to remind you one thing: whatever "we" did Joseph Schmidt or the culture, we are still listening his voice, admiring his art, thinking of him. The assasinators didn´t defeat him!

  • who is WE, i had no part in turning 6? million jews into bars of unscented soap.. now lets be clear>> am not saying that jews were turned into lamp shades also, the holocaust survivors say this, and i dont dis- believe them,,,now suicide bomber...king david hotel irgun ring -a-bell stern gang=hamas bla bla .. europe never died get over it,, an enjoy that mans voice.

  • einfach nur geil

  • your view of the historical facts is so distorted and crazily right wing that its obsolete to answer on a factual level.

  • Personally, i prefer Joseph Schmidt by far to Pavarotti: Theres no one with a comparable clear and sun-shining operartic voice like this small man who only lived so short during that last centure due to Nazi cruelty which made his life - at least in the end - awful and short. Albrecht from Munich.

  • What a wonderful voice!

Thanks for sharing this with me

    :]

  • @albrechtschnabel

How did the Nazi cruelty make his life short and awful? Never let the truth interfere with a silly comment eh?

  • I can only hope you are right and they will pay, the bastards who let him die like that and the idiots who deny he was basically killed. When they start to deny you know they are just hating Jews. Wikpedia has it all and facts not bullshit.

  • I would not compare him to Pavoratti but his high notes quite often where better and a warmer voice but different, old sound does not help either.

  • Joseph Schmidt was by far the greatest Jewish tenor of all time!

He was the pride and joy of my native Romania and was murdered bythe Swiss Nazi State.

The Swiss derived perverse pleasure in working one of the world's greatest tenors to death!

But, I firmly believe that their time will come and they will pay for this and other crimes against the Jewish people!

  • I never saw anyone say he died in Germany, no in Switzerland but of a heart attack not anything else.

  • Check out Wikpedia under Joseph Schmidt tenor for the facts and get it straight they let him die of a heart attack and it's the same as murder. Those internment camps where not country clubs,he already had TB their, where do you suppose 6 million Jews went to Miami for the sun? making it look like his death was his own fault, Crazy, you could not get a pass port out if you where a Jew in 1942, only to the ovens and anyone who denies it just has a hate issue with Jews.

  • Walzer, Wine and Vienna, that´s the mix to enjoy!

  • I am so pleased this and other Joseph Schmidt videos are on YouTube. What a wonderful talent, such a sad end.Wunderbar!!

  • I have 2 LP's from Joseph Schmidt, he was the best friend from my Grandfather in Czernowitz.. His destiny is so sad

  • Joseph Schmidt could sing just like all of the rest of the Schmidts in our family! He was extremely short and small boned but apparently had a HUGE, wonderful TENOR voice!Thank you for posting this as I was born after he was murdered.

  • Joseph Schmidt sang very very well. I prefer Pavarotti's voice over his, however. They were both very talented singers.

  • Dolce e forte, meraviglia.

  • Vielen Dank! eine der beste sängern der geschichte!

  • Yhis is the most beautifull enchanting voice ever ! I would love to see nis movies again -

  • Just so you know, Netflix has two of his films you can order.

  • es gibt nichts schöneres als einen guten wiener walzer mit text und er krönt das ganze durch seine grandiose stimme =)

  • Al his singing for the movies was live , no playback, I can't repeat this enough, If he had too sing it a dozen times then he did it, playback in 1932 was unkwon in Europe, he sings even other aria's in the english version, so did Tauber.

  • Thank God Schmidt made recordings and films so we can always enjoy his very lovely singing !

  • Thank you, friend from the Netherlands for thesewonderful clips of one of the greats.
