  • @hayden3612 because of the simplicity of making a turbo, there's no advantage or disadvantage really expect for weight and possibly better air flow with the round ones.

  • 1) turbos may work on a real 2 stroke (the jury is still out on that) but in the case of an RC engine, the exhaust temp is far too low to spin up a turbo as it uses expanding exhaust gases to spool it up. This is the very same reason expansion chambers won't work on an RC nitro engine, as well as the oil in the exhaust also kills the sonic wave. I built a belt driven impeller style supercharger for my RC truck. Only problem was supercharger put out 18CFM @ 43,000 rpm and engine used 3cfm @53,000

I think I'll be using that supercharger on a 4 stroke weed wacker engine next. <:o) I'm sure that will be a better match for it. As far as building boost on an RC 2 stroke engine, they have the crankshaft as a rotary valve, thus allowing it to build pressure. anytime you remove the task of sucking air into the engine, you will see gains. My SC produced 1.568PSI

  • acually a turbo blows air in threw the carb and on a 4 stroke there are valves wich dont let the air pass rit threw, that is why a turbo wouldnt work beause on 2 stroke cause there arnet valves to creates pressure to force the gas in . so by putting a turbo on a two stroke ur just waisting ur time. but forceing more air in faster will create better air flow so it will suck more gas so i geuss it will work. lol had 2 rethink that for a sec.

  • i used to have an rb innovation supercharge on an o.s..32 with the 50% increase pulley, water cooled with the pipe cut at the end an inner cone enlarge there was no drive shaft to resist, this thing was out of control now on the genesis .46 im yet to heard anything like it it sounded as it the piston wanted to come out of the sleeve at the first pull of triger the entire trans. gears strip and the shafts bend i will love to see one of this on a bzx4 26cc from bonzi

  • im sorry i don't know much about the anatomy of a turbo or the terminology but doesn't the wheel that charges the air have to spin on a faster ratio than the exhaust wheel? nobody flame its just a question.

  • @MEAKapc I can't answer that for sure but I believe so. On something as small of a scale as this I am sure that it is unimportant and will not show any gains going that complicated with it. As you can see there is only 4 pieces to this turbo whereas a car turbo is much bigger and more complicated.

  • @MEAKapc It isn't necessary for the compressor to spin faster, but in most turbochargers, it does. The size of the wheel can also be changed by replacing it with a new wheel/housing.

  • The detroit 8v92 has a supercharger and a turbo, but they also have exhaust valves to keep the boost in the cylinder, thats why they work so good.

  • Jeeves2100: I thought as you, but I had to admit once that I was wrong. 2 stroke engine is possible to super/turbocharge, but it is more difficult. It actually affects mostly helping the engine "breathe". Getting higher compression pressure is not so obvious as with 4-stroke engines. Think about detroit diesels...,2 stroke diesels NEED a supercharger to run cause those differ in certain way from 2-stroke gas engines. Those need supercharger to blow away exhaust gases and to feed fresh air.

  • This "TURBO" will not make any difference on the overall performance of your engine. It would be better if you just get a racing motor and I bet you, it will out perform your makeshift turbo add-ons.

  • @pinoyeh turbos and supers are in no way benficial to a 2 stroke engine unless it has exhaust valves otherwise the compressed air will just break the seal in the exhaust port created by the sonic pulse from the exhaust

    First off, you have no idea what you are talking about so STFU.

    Any forced induction on a 2 stroke engine will solely continually blowthrough as to cease the exhaust re-ingestion as any engine experiences.

    Usually forced induction on a 2 stroke will net 2-4% increase in power only because of the halting of exhaust re-ingestion.

    It will not "blow' your engine if you tune for it.

    Nice machining work there OP, it looks great, although that's about all it is useful for.

  • c&c'd aluminium?all you need now is a bov and it wold be sick.you should run a duct from the intake inlet to the front on the car with some type of air filtration,and another duct theat carrys the exhaust gasses from the turbo outlet so its not accumultaing in the car body and mixing in with the fresh air it mite create a little lag but the aire is cleaner.

  • bit silly, forced induction does not work on 2 stroke engines. As the air fuel mixture is in the combustion chamber before compression, forced induction will cause the feul to blow out the exhaust. this leads to almost no noticeable change in HP but a massive increase in fuel consumption.

    probably best to try it on a 2-stroke engine that has poppet exhaust valves, like a Diesel 2-stroke, those are usually turbo or super charged. The IMI-Milano-100-FVT was a 2-stroke kart racing motor in the 70's that used 4 poppet exhaust valves run by 2 overhead cams ...the cylinder ports were all intake ports, that would be perfect for supercharging!

    How do you figure that? The exhaust port is covered by the piston before the intake port is, so that would allow for pressure to build.

  • @Jeeves2100 how does it blow fuel ut the exhaust the fuel would be burnt bufore the exhust port is open and if your thinking backwards the exhaust port would be covered be the fuel is injected into the cylinder . Also a supercharger just forces MORE air into the cylinder there by making more power, and a turbo recycles used exhaust compresses it and re-routes it to the motor.and one other thing i believe they use a centrifigle supercharger on nitro motors and if you think about it it is a turbo

  • @trent345678 take your rc engine apart with the piston at bdc and you will see what jeeves is talking about the exhaust is open at the same time the intake is open sounds crazy i know but the forced air will go across the top of the piston and out the exhaust thats why when you see a rc engine run fuel comes out the exhaust... 2 stroke engines are wasteful in away but make up for the waste by taking only 2 strokes to make power!

    If your going to say diesel doesn't count, you said 2 stroke engine, it is still an engine.

  • @Jeeves2100 WRONG 2 stroke engines can respond very well to turbos and if it is a mechanical valve engine then it will respond well to belt driven superchargers as well.

    if the turbo is directly after the expansion chamber then it will actually affect the exhaust pulse as much as the force going into the crankcase. i will be creating a 85 lt250r turbo monster shortly. and if i havent convinced you yet then check out turbo banshees. dont talk out of ignorenous it only makes you sound stupid. :)

  • @Jeeves2100 Forced induction works on twostroke! But you need a tunedpipe between the engine and turbo (ressonance chamber) tuned especially for the purpose.... And did you know that a turbocharger will need at least >1X inletpressure on the turbine to boost. Exhaust pressure=>inletpressure means that there is no greater chance of overfilling the twostroke engine. However it is trickier to tune a working setup on a twostroke than a fourstroke... snowmobile racers done this for years...
