  • "you just totally disrespected the dead from doing that. "

Perhaps! But personally I think the dead don't give a damn. Seems like a miserable afterlife, to spend all your time obsessing about the living

  • whats the song at 0:55

  • What little respect you are showing throughout this whole thing.

  • A young Japanese poet hung himself and carved a beautiful poem on the tree. That's how it started.

  • the lava from the ground in the forrest will throw your compass needle in circles. it gets really creepy out there especially at night.

  • The girl's hot

  • @MrP0wnager Sick,,

  • in my opinion Azusa Hayano was honestly a little better and the way he talks about the forest and the people who have committed suicide there.

  • I've just fell in love with Miho Masubuchi

  • That's very disrespectful...

  • Who wants to come end it with me? I am serious message me. Im a foreigner

  • I think that was disrespectful what you did to that tree and rope. Some may argue that it's only a piece of rope hanging from a tree but the thing is someone died hanging from that rope. I completely agree with @h8hax

  • i would not sacrifice my life unless im the last person on earth . other than that id never ever do suicide LOL

  • I heard many valuable things were left..i wonder if it will be wrong to loot them..i mean they even left they car keys ..FREE CAR anyone?!

  • LOCK CLOSELY AT 18 SECOND

    YOU CAN SEE A GHOST

  • @MrMango556

i can't see anything, must be u, u better becareful dude

  • @MrMango556 OMG WHERE!!!

  • @MrMango556 HOLY SHIT is true mannnn

  • i really love this!!!!!!! its amazing!!! jk i hate it aaaahhhh

  • Is this documentary already available?

  • 500 people suicided there, there are also signs saying reconsider life!, think about your family!

  • I don't know why but just by reading about it, I feel really drawn to that place, it just seems really, really beautiful to me. And apparently it is known for being eeriely quiet, that makes me want to stay there a bit to feel what that silence feels like.

  • @Anonymous738 I agree with you.

  • @Anonymous738 just dont bring any rope substance with you

  • @ProjectILT lol, "its calling me, it wants me to stay forever!"

  • @ProjectILT Par.

  • Watch Aokigahara Suicide Forest on Vbs.tv, same forest, better guide.

  • I remember renting a movie that reminded me of this, i forgot the name. But maybe its the same idea. At the end some people die and become a tree.. i think. but anyways its in Japan.

  • i love tokyo...but this...

  • A Japanese would never tread where a body has lain. It's a cultural thing. Dead bodies are to be avoided

  • Wasp has...some sort of a point. It sounds ignorant the way he puts it, but one important thing to remember about Japan is that like any society, it and its people aren't perfect. The Japanese are fun, interesting and intelligent, but they are also simple, greedy and selfish.

  • Its funny how in America people get on black people case for joining gangs or doing drugs to deal with their problems. But people bash them for it, yet so many of you are sitting up here kissing the Japanese ass like its okay for them to kill themselves over job losses and shit. Just admit you praise and glorify them you weak asses. Chinese people go through the same BS as the Japanese, but you don't see them getting all super Emo about it.

  • Suicide is for the weak. I will NOT give any attention to these weak souls who were too afraid and powerless to do anything other than end their lives

  • Were are not willing to live homeless yet we wont go to work just to pay some strangers most of ower money and still live on the edge of homelessness.. I'm intelligent enough to say i'm a slave to society. Women wont talk to you if you live with mom.. A small criminal recored for stealing doesnt help either,so... Theres more to it....

  • Thanks for your religous comment but, sorry peaple just dont in God as a being. So your not help the situation, more annoying us instead... People please theres a whole lot more to suicide than the need for a god for us to repent ower sins to. The busy world we live in is making us feel under classed... I feel useless to the slave work force this world leaves us...

  • @Alienpimp33 If you feel that way you need to start Chalenging the hierarchy of society, that in itself brings satifaction. It's fair and it brings balance, Sure I have been done over, but I selectively target those responsible in exposure of what they are.

  • How is it that some people commit suicide when there is so much to partake of in life, I think a belief in God pulls you through ( and being honest with yourself & others ), but just think of all the Good Sex you would be missing out on, and all the whisky & Cuban Cigars, the Drunken Brawls on New Years Eve, the enjoyment of Arguments Ect Ect... It's far more enjoyable to be a shameless rouge than wanting to kill yourself, but I guess thats just me.

  • @billymeier182

i dont understand why you aren't a spokesperson for the samaritans

  • @cthulhu11111111 Do I need to be in a religious outfit to speak the truth.

  • @cthulhu11111111 why say yes

  • stupid dumbass, the rope u just hung on and almost broke the branch once had a dead body on and you just totally disrespected the dead from doing that. the strings and ropes that are all over the ground are brought in by the japenese people who suicided. they died one end somewhere, a place where they start and the end to a place usually where they suicide or they would leave something valuable of thiers there.

  • @h8hax id say he disrespected the tree more lol the dead dont give a fuck.

  • @h8hax the dead commited suicide, he already dishonored himself

  • @h8hax Like he said it was a prop. The branch couldn't even handle a weight of a man. And why the hell would someone leave a rope with a loop still intact there after taking down a body...This forest is probably full of fake ropes and bones which the locals or tourists leave there to make it more scary.

  • @h8hax How did your statement become a top comment?!? It's idiotic in so many different ways.

  • @h8hax Not to be insensitive, but the people that committed suicide there didn't respect themselves. Why is it a big deal?

Again: not trying to be mean or disrespectful. I wish no one would commit suicide and would talk to someone. It's very very sad.

  • @mutez0r not all ppl has someone to talk to. there are a certain number of ppl that has no one to be caring enough to listen. :( i can relate to that. especially when no one understands.

  • @mutez0r Just because they commit suicide, doesn't mean that they don't respect themselves. That doesn't make sense.

  • @h8hax go cry,

  • @h8hax Actually, the reason why he hangs on it is to show that that rope and branch are NOT the place where somebody committed suicide.

  • extremely easy fix and Japan should know this because it is an advanced country, or is it?

more liberal diagnosis of mental disorder and dispense of anti-depressants

warning signs at the entrance with phone # for suicide hotline.

It's not a cure-all but should at least cut down the number to 1/2.

  • @hitlerscollection ...its not that easy to get out of depression because there are many reasons to why people become depressed and i doubt that medicines will 'cure' it and a lot of people suicide because they are unable to call for help simply because they are too embarrassed to tell other people... trust me, ive been in that situation before.

  • The random beeping noises in the background 'music' are so distracting. x_x

  • you can go into the forest leaving behind you a cable, you do not miss ..

  • good place for emo punk rock band music video?or a big concert?hahaha

  • reminds me of alan wake for sum reason.

    thanks.

  • @Isthisthelongestname only at night....only at night

  • which bus stop gets you the closest to the forest if you`re coming from the direction of Kawaguchiko JR station?

  • @heirihunziker haha i think it's not a happy bustrip with people that are going to that forest

  • cool maybe I should go for fitness there one day.

  • in 2004, tomoyuki takimoto, was doing a movie in that area called "ki no umi". he said that he found a wallet with 370 000 yens!!!

some other people said that they found credit cards and driving license in the

    forest! creepy, right!!?

  • I've been to this forest as a part of school trip, not for the sake of studying suicides or anything like that, but because the forest is just beautiful, one of the most beautiful forests in Japan.

The walk paths in the vid are pretty popular too, and people from small family-owned hotels there were very friendly.

It is true that the Jukai is often labelled as a forest for suiciders, but local guides seemed pretty annoyed about it, as the beauty of the nature there is often ignored.

  • I've been living in Japan for the past 20 years. I'm not holding on to life anymore...

May the turbulence of our age yield to the true time of peace...

  • The Japanese who commits suicide economically becoming poor is 20,000 people in 30,000 people.

However, the foreigner who was getting the public assistance only in Osaka City exceeded 10,000 people. Most is Chinese and South Korean.

There is Chinese who applied for the public assistance on only the third day after it comes to Japan, too.

    What does you think?

  • i watched this because zetsubou-sensei talked about this. very eerie music tho. such a beautiful forest until u see a corpse D:

  • To take one's own life is one of the most beautiful and honourable things imaginable and deserves much respect. To leave this world on one's own terms, at one's own choice of place and time...The Ultimate Freedom. I have no sympathy reserved for those that are left behind, their self-pity, nor to any sadness that lingers. Death may be for the living, but living is for the dead.

  • sleep warm....

  • awesome documentary

  • who the fuck picked the music

  • Such a beautiful place to die..Why not?

  • what kinda of stupid shit is this, There are nature parks in north America that are wilder than that place, little kids frequently ride their bikes through rougher trails than that.

  • environmentalgraffiti

    article here about the forest

  • i saw a starbucks in there

  • I will go in there this june, I don't give a fuck.

  • @welcomegohome you will be missed :(

  • @xquickstrykex LOL no, not to commit suicide, just to check it out and totally desecrate any dead bodies i see.

  • @welcomegohome

well good luck sir ...i searched on internet and a found some weird websites pictured some dead bodies hung to some trees....decomposed in aokigahara forest but i'm not sure if they're real corpes...it's pretty scary shit

  • When will this be released as a film? This is fascinating.

  • thats so scary how the compass' dont work s: wow an amazing forrest though. scary

  • @AlexxPie

there's no spiritual thingy in aokigahara that make compass doesn't work it caused by volcanic rocks

  • I would be so scared to go there. But I've heard many have hit the jackpot and found lots of money there. Still, I can't. I might step over a body. Why is the suicide rate so high in Asia? Seems like every week we hear about an Ivy league student of Asian descent has committed suicide.

  • Cracked.

  • Hej! Hasn't Aokigahara forest always had a sinister reputation in Japan regardless of the contemporary suicides there? Wasn't Aokigahara believed to be haunted by evil demons as well?

  • Fantastic place to die.

But if you mess up, you'll die horribly.

  • this place is awesome. suicide happens in every country, but its just wierd that japanese suicide when they lost their jobs( not being racist). in my country, suicides only occur when its about losing someone you love. I'd love to go there though. but not alone.

  • the crapy music is killing me.... everything else is great but really that is the one you picked?

I'd rather there be no music at all . It takes away from the mood of the documentary.

  • @smellyface101

    agree

  • That music is kind of ummm....70's-ish.

  • i got it, deforestation and sell the wood

  • Now now, Alfrunk. Let's not spread the racist disease.

  • @Alfrunk then i guess americans are the most "not quite right" as the location with the most suicides in the world is the golden gate bridge

  • @Fnoalle Racism, you mean.

Racist disease sounds like a disease that is only specifically infectious to certain races. :P

  • fuck you

  • i spent most of the video looking at how good looking japanese girls are >_>

  • well then what kind resolution shud it be?, they shud have fence and barbwire the whole area before this shit happen, might as well burn the whole forest down as it is lifeless in there, sometimes this kind of messy thinking that wud help to end this whole predicament

  • @afiq358 going abit for dont you think? If you burn it down theyll obviously still do it and maybe more in public places. In the end people have there problems and if they truely feel that they should die. let them be

  • Japan has the highest suicide rates in the world, implying that many people living there are apparently not happy.

Makes you wonder why so many wapanese wants to live there, just for the anime? Manga? Games?

  • @devilhunterred

It's a common misconception that Japan is the country with the highest suicide rate. The same thing is often said about Sweden, where I am from.

Actually, the highest suicide rates are to be found in Eastern Europe.

However. I think many suicides in Japan (which is high on the list) are for very culture-specific reasons.

  • @Fnoalle Very true! The highest suicide rate in the world belongs to Lithuania.

  • @Fnoalle suicide is honorable there isnt it

  • @AlazarMarkose Only back in WWII or in the Samurai times if you were doing it for the Emperor

  • @CosmicDestroyer99 I hear it's still a very honorable way to die. People gain sympathy for all your failings in life if you commit suicide in Japan. They think it's selfless and shows absolutely no fear. It's just a cultural difference i guess because over here it's beyond one of the most shameful ways to die.

  • @AlazarMarkose

    no.

    I'm Japanese.

the Japanese don't think suicide is honorable.

the way of thinking about suicide is the same.I don't think it's shameful way to die but it's very sad way.

  • @0012008101689 Do you LIVE in japan?

  • @AlazarMarkose

    Yes.

  • @Fnoalle

south korea has more suicide percentage (27%) than japan, the highest suicide case is from belarussia and lithuania

  • @Fnoalle But doesn't Japan have the highest teen suicide rate, largely related to the pressures of school, and how it affects your potential job-for-life?

  • @Fnoalle

Monaco has the highest suicide rate. That is because it is small and lots of casino's people throw themselves of a a cliff.

  • @Fnoalle bullshit. Closely following up Russia, Japan has the highest rate of suicides. It's mainly caused by the intense social and cultural pressure which basically forces people to look upon themselves as a walking dead when they don't have a job. Japan is a horrible country. Or at least; the culture is horrible.

  • it has alot to do with how their society thinks its not the same for foreigners they dont expect as much from you so people coming from other places don't exsperiance that sort of your career is your life way of thinking and without it your dead anyways, that most often causes people to commit suicide their but america still has the #1 most "popular" for lack of a better word place to commit suicide (The Golden Gate Bridege) In the world so...its almost the same as here

  • I live in Tokyo. I love it because its the biggest city in the world that still manages to have almost no crime and almost no poverty. I don't give a shit about manga or anime.

  • @ThwartedVillainy what's the unemployment rate? do the kids over there ever have fun?

  • @BigHashTouraj

Well, now it's 5%, but that's a historic high for Japan because of the global meltdown. In 2008 it was around 3.8%. However, most people can just move in with their parents. There are many young people who only work part-time so they can pay the bills and spend the rest of the time doing what they please.

  • @ThwartedVillainy i would burn a society to the ground that busts ur ass on school so u can only get a job a 7/11 with a master's degree

  • @BigHashTouraj lol, I work as a teacher. Kids do NOT bust their asses here. It's usually pretty shocking to Americans who have been told that the Japanese are worker bees to see how they behave in school. Just yesterday in school some kids broke a window AND a door. I've taught at 3 different schools.

And also, people who get masters degrees don't have jobs at 7/11, I have no idea where you heard that. 7/11 workers and mcdonalds employees are usually kids in college.

  • It's also incredibly behind the times in terms of race and gender issues. Disgusting.

  • If there is no crime in Tokyo, how do you explain the Yakuza.

And Tokyo isn't the largest city in the world by population, that honor goes to Shanghai.

  • @devilhunterred Devil, Tokyo is the worlds largest city, go look it up.

I never said no crime, I said almost no crime. And for the normal person, there might as well be no crime because if you don't mess with the Yakuza, the Yakuza won't mess with you. Theft, burglary, assault, murder, arson, etc are all pretty rare in Japan. Most people have never even seen a gun. In almost all American cities, there's always an area that you just don't go to. In Tokyo, there's no neighborhoods like that.

  • @ThwartedVillainy

almost no poverty, you're a funny guy!

  • @waider Wasn't a joke. Look it up yourself. Japan has a very low salary gap, which studies have shown makes management look after their employees better and more likely to do what is better for society and not just their own pockets.

Really, it's a big factor in the health of a society. Too much money changes people and when those people also have the power, they abuse it to get even richer.

It's a testament to how bad things are in America when you think a low poverty rate is a joke.

  • @ThwartedVillainy

still, you should open your eyes, theres more and more poor people there! Look at all the homeless people on the street and the poor workers that have to live in internet coffee because they can't afford an appartment.

Look at Danchi in Tokyo suburbs, and you'll understand why I laugh when you say "almost no poverty".

  • @waider But those who are homeless are looked after so much better in Japan than in America. Japanese homeless people get to eat the leftover bentos not sold on the day they were made. The police generally leave the homeless alone as long as they stay in clusters. Have you seen the little houses the homeless make? Some of them even have TV, I've seen it with my own eyes!

  • @ThwartedVillainy

Oh wow, they have TV!! Their life might be so wonderful then...

Seriously, you have eyes but still your mind is blind...

  • @waider Listen, they're well fed and there aren't many of them. That's a LOT better than any other country I've been to.

  • @ThwartedVillainy

On some points I agree with you, I like Japan!

  • @ThwartedVillainy Your channel says you live in the Us. >_>

  • @dundeecake That's nice for my channel, but I don't. I'm not going to give you my address, but I live in Koenji, Tokyo. The birthplace for Japanese punk rock just a few stops from Shinjuku.

  • @ThwartedVillainy

    youre a decent person

  • @ThwartedVillainy I know, right? I hate that kind of negative response when someone says they like Japan. Japan is a fucking fascinating culture and they have great food, wha'ts wrong with that?

  • @selty

every culture is fascinating dummy. Not just Japanese.

  • @Wasp1984 When did I insinuate anything of the like? Never.

  • @ThwartedVillainy Tokyo is full of crime. It just does not have a lot of violent, random crime due to the police state history of Japan. But a lot of things happen in Tokyo (organized shops specializing in the prostitution of young boys, etc) that are illegal and/or immoral, but simply ignored by Japanese society.

That does not make it go away.

  • @motherthing That kind of crime exists everywhere in the world. As someone coming from America, I have to deal with the possibility of being shot or stabbed or beat up everyday there. I simply don't have to worry about my personal safety in Tokyo, which is remarkable because it is the world's largest city, so you'd expect that there would be plenty of violence and mazes of slums, but there just aren't.

  • @devilhunterred Actually highest suicide rate is in the U.S. and the Golden Gate Bridge is where the highest number of suicides occur. Second is Aokigahara. So a lot has to do with economic situation.

  • The US is actually ranked 40th and Japan is 6th. Japan has the same number of suicides as the US at 30,000 and Japan is a smaller country. It is just that the Golden State bridge is the most popular destination to jump off of. Most people use fire arms.

  • @TheBlackLesbian i always thought that was kind of a stupid way to kill oneself. not that there were ,,good" ones, but does jumping off the golden gate actually kill you? i reckon it´ d just be really painful and then you´ll slowly drown.

  • @devilhunterred On this kind of video even if it's about Japan, you're able to bring up the word 'wapanese', how stereotypical. Most Japanese who commit suicide because they think they have a poor quality of life due to stress, money, unemployment and social life. You can't just make out how living in Japan really is from just knowing there's a suicide forest, there ARE good things about Japan as well.

  • @Cookai11 really?!maybe i should ask 100 Japanese people how they felt about life..

  • @chime1970 What? So you think EVERYONE in Japan is unhappy with their lives? I was just saying you can't just say that from just referring to Japan having a suicide forest. :/

  • @Cookai11 what a coincidence yesterday someone just jumped off the railway, makes me wonder why do they hve to kill their own and disturb the rush hours of commuters..suicide is an act of running away from problems..i think some Japanese are weak and they always feel bitter..everyday i saw their faces all i can see is sad and tired faces...i am sorry if i offended you i only speaks the truth..

  • @chime1970 That's kinda true but I'm not false either :/ All the things you said are just a little too pessimistic and exaggerated.

  • @devilhunterred

    Please don't believe the bullshit,

Actually, Japanese suicide rate is not so high.

Japan is the most happiest and richest country in the world,

We are very proud of being born in Japan,

  • @devilhunterred yh but the highest suicede is golden gate bridge.

  • @devilhunterred - not entirely correct. Japan has a very different attitude toward suicide as opposed to western countries. In Japanese culture suicide is not altogether condemned. In many cases it is considered a proactive act.

  • @devilhunterred Ehm, Japan is the country that uses it's intellegence for traiding. Videogmaes, technology for that matter mostly comes from Japan. So School at japan is really hard. The pressure that highschool people get will drive them to suicide. Also the crappy hard work but not getting much paid for it get's it.

The higly amound of manga and video games comes from the idea that Japan really likes to get away from their daily routine. Life just sucks for them.

  • @devilhunterred

yea they get here, and are sadly disappointed. I say only the business minded, and people interested in REAL japanese culture and language should come. Even for the business minded many are leaving Japan for China. I mean I can make more money in Shanghai than I can in Tokyo.. But atlas I'm here on research, but yea I'm getting my ass to another country soon. Though I got cool friends here, and the parties are okay. foreigners in the countryside though are socially isolated

  • @devilhunterred Some people in Tokyo may be unhappy because they work long hours, have little vacation, have "after work" almost every day, commute for hours on crowded trains and (even if they have money) live in little plastic boxes in a never-ending concrete mess. Also, 1/4 of the year they suffer from unbearable temperatures in their asphalt heat trap. Tokyo is great but I can see how it can also wear you down!

    . Also, hal

  • @panchamkauns

Plus a lot of buildings don't have central heating, so Winters are also harsh.

  • @Klintoniusmaximus

Its not that bad. The summers are really hot, but winters in tokyo are fine. It might snow 3 or 4 days a year. Having a heater is nice, but your noting going to suffer if you dont.

Not like in the god damn summer D:

  • @devilhunterred you forgot to mention the drifting there hot womens there awesome culture, fashion, lifestyle, music, cinema, ect... lol

  • @CHA5ERFACE

You're a dummy too. Since when did Japan have the hottest women? Last time I checked their are good looking women and cultures in every place in the world. Besides Japanese women are terrible in the sack. And fashion? Really? And lifestyle? Really? You must be a Jap-fucker to think all this so easily without even considering other cultures before that comment came out of you.

  • @Wasp1984 SFTU idiot you made no sence. i never said "best" did i you cock smocker. you just rattled out that whole paragraph for no reason (terrible english btw). it sounds to me you have some sort of hate towards japan. you took my coment WAY out of context jack ass...

    good day!

  • they shud be a guard roaming in there, prohibiting people going in, if they just refused shoot them, that will taught them a lesson

  • Are you a real person?

  • they did, but now a days the locals are fed up with all the body sweeps and patrols and the waste of time on detaining shit loads of people

  • @afiq358 kinda stupid policy seeing as how most of the people who go there are trying to commit suicide, youd just be doing them a huge favour

  • Than they would just force the guards to shoot them.

  • Yeah lets kill the suicide people lol thats stupid, man
