  • ... People are good. Thanks Anna Sophie ..wh..wh.. uh... ;0). Love the good work.

Aloha to you as well !

  • ...and it ought to have exactly the same spunky, zesty, fun feeling this video gives you. Good for you girl! This is true lack of racism, and not not-mattering who you go to bed with.I love this girl! In a life that has made me feel like I wasn't good enough, and one too many people that have crossed my path dislike me even when I try and trust the best I can, her films remind me of how much I do love people, and why I fight to regain our basic humanity and innocence of heart.

  • I love this video (the one about regaining your faith in dating) because it really sums up what it means to not see the world through the colour or the appearance of you body. This producer; girl in this film, could have been n African woman from Burkina Faso, making a documentary in Georgia, Germany or Guatemala, ...

  • That dude in green named Susan!

  • Yeahhh......... Smacker !!! it's sound good but smanfar better hahaha!

  • I need to name some of my students something funny like Frog or No No. HaHa

I believe it would make class that much more enjoyable.

  • i name my dog dog is tht the best name or what

  • LMAO! I love it!!!

  • And as a native Chinese living in Beijing (visiting youtube via a Taiwan proxy), I like this video. It's funny and not offensive (as someone thought) at all IMHO :-)

  • As someone already mentioned, Chinese names are CREATED, and every Chinese name has a meaning. That's why when we choose an English name, we always want to choose something simply meaningful.

And for the question, "why chinese people need an English name", the answer is very simple: easy for your (foreigners) pronunciation. For example, can you pronounce "Qiang" easily (which is my name)? And how about

"LianJie Li" (Jet Li's Chinese name)?

  • @sasunshine1123456 I have some chinese friends and their explanation is the same as yours. However, many of their closest friends even call them by their english name. It is frankly up to the foreigners to try to learn how to pronounce it. It is not your obligation to make it easier for lazy foreigners who doesnt even try :)

I learnt the chinese names of my friends (i think its only fair) and i love pronouncing them! I think it is more personal.

For strangers however, i can understand the need

  • Hi ! I'm soon going to move to Beijing. And I need an Chinese name. How did you find yours ?

  • @Linization jiawen.net/Chinesenames.html

I just chose mine, it’s 夏美芝

夏 = Xia [sheeya] (last name) meaning “summer”

美芝 = Meizhi [may-jurr] (first name) meaning “beautiful iris”

    Good luck!

  • cool channel...came across it today

  • SMACKAR, OKAY?!

  • I teach English to Chinese people, and I have seen alot of weird English names that they have chosen. I will just say my three favourite (because of the character limit). One girl gave herself the English name "Fountain". Another one of my students named herself "Fish". One of them, who has recently became a great friend of mine, gave herself the English name "Oops" because she liked how it sounded. I asked if she know what it meant. She did not. lol. Oh, and I don't have the heart to tell her.

  • The girl at 1:55 omg she is my idol <3

  • Oh,, I'd rather ask you how many years that you learn chinese? You also know the chinese Pinyin system too! Everyone know chinese is extremely hard... You speak it very well~!!!

  • @ngaiyuetming I am trying to learn Chinese, and she really gives me hope! =]]

  • @giraffekisses22 Oh, GOOK LUCK TO YOU!!! ADD OIL=)

  • @dogmilly1 Wow, your reply made my day! I was born and raised in America and my parents gave me a Western name but lmao I use my Chinese name on Facebook. I find it kinda insulting that they'll try to put an English name on you when you never asked for one. I know Chinese people have an English name out of convenience but it's becoming more of an commercial trend...I know Chinese girls who used to use their Chinese names until high school, as they thought it would be cooler to be called by a

  • @xxweirdwonderxx Western name or try to fit in. It really sucks...in my physics class there are 2 guys with Chinese names and the kids laugh at their names but I have respect for them for not changing it just b/c students purposely butcher it up as a joke. I mean I understand if the pinyin of your name sounds bad so an English name is fine. But I find it sad and unnecessary that anytime Chinese people are exposed to Western culture (HK, Singapore) they get a Western name. Sorry for long reply ><

  • @dogmilly1 I agree with you. ):

  • Frog... it means frog... ;u;

  • I'm glad no one had my name !!! Samanfar!!! Sounds like somenfart

  • The lady clearly said anna sophie quite well and to be honest no one calls me Naruto Uzumaki, so first name being easy to grasp leads me to believe you wanted to be named after a maxi pad

  • smacka

  • nice glasses bitch where'd you get those gay cunts r us?

  • @Shazgi Fuck you

  • SAMANFAR??????LOOOOL

  • We love Su Fei! We love Smacker!! you both are awesome!!

  • sajjad

  • ROFLMAO!

  • Comment removed

  • lmao this is so funny

  • lawl at Samanfar... she chose that name so that her chinese friends would have an easier time pronouncing her name lol

  • hahahah, I love this woman

  • that bitch should be deported from China for being so damn ugly

  • MY NAME IS SMACKER!

  • hahahah XD your chinese is pretty good!!!

  • yo chinese people are cooler than I thought

  • hahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahhahaha

  • @dmyhre16 i meant in the videos

  • this bitch looks like kassem g

  • I liked "Dollar" xD

  • What a Wanna be-Sarah Jessica Parker. She is awful. Why China? Could you annoy another country? They don´t need Sex and the City. I think, this woman is a maniac.

  • i'm officially starting a petition to webster's to change the spelling of the "Samantha" to "Samanfar".

  • Indians and Arabs are not so good people. They are close to the Africans.Easy to lie and act inmorally.

  • omygod Lavazza! is that at the silk market? and the hideous yellow and multicolored taxis. and the little white fences. i miss and love Beijing forever!

  • How do you say "hairy bush" in Chinese?

  • more and more chinese are using english names? that's a hasty generanization isn't it?

  • @ba40029 it is kind of true.

  • What an angry show.

  • Interestingly, foreign bitch

  • @txl15848347246 First Jew in China, her, her, her.

  • lmfao smacker... :P

  • The video is really boring. If you are not like China just don't go there. That's why when China become a great place you still don't know. When Chinese watch this video they are laughing at you . Just because they know a old story called ONE FROG IN WELL.The frog never know what's the size of the sky.Frog just can see the sky through well.

  • She is such a mega douche.

  • ugly chick.

  • lol. Seems the Chinese have some sort of mental block on anything Jewish. It was just Anna-Sophie-..........

  • I taught English in Xi'an and had a student named "Power Lord" and another named "Handbag" and another teacher named his entire class after a football team

  • @dittonamed That. IS AWESOME.

    China is officially the best.

  • LOOOOL I LAUGHED REAL HARD BWUAHAHA THIS IS SOOOO FUNNY

  • Chinese stereotype actually being displayed at 4:06

  • ahaha))) dog with the name NO NO))))

  • Actually, most chinese use pinyin to spell their english name, which is also the name on passport. Such as my english name is "Lun", which represent Chinese character "倫”.

  • i met a guy in Thailand named Happy, a girl in Laos named Mango, a guy in Taiwan named Bevis (pronounced Beavis). Plus, when i was visiting China I actually gave a girl an English name. She had some Italian name that her English teacher gave her, and I renamed her Emma, and she really liked it! i bet she still uses Emma.

  • Hahaha that huge mic, like shove it in the lil kid's face.. when i look at it i thought it was those thing u clean dust

  • hmmmmm....... this is in poor taste.

of course it a challenge for them to pronounce your name.... they dont speak english.... 99% of americans cant say a chinese name with the correct pronunciation.....

basically you go to people with less education than yourself, make fun of their lack of knowledge about your native language and make a video about it....... yeah, "sexybeijing"...... no comment on whether it is actually "sexy" but it certainly is not smart.

  • @pacowc3 wow. i read your comment, then watched the video. i was shocked because i expected the video to be culturally insulting, but it wasnt at all.

you are embarrassingly over-sensitive!!! and did you only watch the first 30 seconds!??

    your comment was ludicrous!!!

  • thumb up for Smacker!

  • @dennyyu1989 Yeah, Smacker is awesome!

  • LoL LoL ... Susan hahahahahahahaha

  • LoL LoL

  • Looking with lust still a sin

  • I love the way you approach people. So open!!!

  • Funny! :)

  • lol @ the guy's name tag that says susan hahahaha

him: hey boss, do i get a name tag?

boss: umm yea... here, use this one...

him: ok cool, what does susan mean?

    boss: it means 'leader'...

  • @Smeagollum86 gay leader.

  • hey, Anna that wasn't fair, you have to go to university and I am pretty sure there have a lot of people have English name. It just like how much ordinary people in the American have a Chinese name!

  • 来自瑞典的问候.

  • Being a Chinese living in Germany, I tried to watch this with an open mind. But somehow, I still feel offended.

  • @leealisonlee But someday China will take over the world, and then you can be like this girl, and you will feel much better! Tschuss!

  • SHANGHAI OWNS BEIJING!

  • i watched this video a year ago just before i travelled to Beijing for 2 months. Watching it again has brought back memories!!

  • 太无聊了,中国人为什么要英文名字呢??捍卫中华文化不是更好吗??

  • Sophie is soooo adorable! I like that shes herself and has her unique style not to mention her show rocks for us round eyes learning chinese ^___^ love the specs!

  • 1:56 I think Borat's been through here.

  • quite funny, the guy with the name tag 'susan' and the lady at the end named smacker!

Sufei's mandarin is quite good! but i noticed her first half of the sentence always had better intonation than the rest of the sentence :o)

  • wow, I bet this video is a long time ago .

BTW , nice glasses ugly lady

  • wow, I bet this video is a long time ago .

BTW , nice glasses ugly lady

  • whats with those 50s vintage glasses?

  • Comment removed

  • although she does seem offensive to the Chinese, she makes a valid point, you don't see people from America getting Chinese names like the Chinese are doing with English names

  • hello ugly girl -- your chinese and english sucks

i am glad to introduce you to the illiterate world

  • lmao that smacker lady was awesome. she looks like a smacker the way she clapped those hands

  • Sexybeijing? More like UglySophie... Anyways, trying to make fun of chinese people and especially on their english accent is played out... And it's still lame.

  • @83pulse Su Fei is not making fun of anyone. Samanfar and Smacker knew their names were not normal English names, and seemed to enjoy them for that very reason. Su Fei clearly loves China and Chinese folk, and enjoys finding out about their lives. She is having fun with them, not *making* fun of them. She brings out the best in the people she meets.

  • i don't think chinese should given a english name.

  • Madam, your chinese is also not so prefect.

  • zhe ting hao xiao de.

  • LMAO, the end is the best :D

  • this is not funny, she has no idea what she is doing, and you guys have no idea what it is like over in china, so... do chinese make fun of the western accent?!?!! no i dont think so, besides its just a name, who cares do you like your name?!?!

  • so funny to watch this

  • I knew a chinese guy whose english name was Bowser.

  • ~_~i don't think i have a english name, if i need to use english for sending e-mail, i'm just saying"Mr. Li",no english name at all

  • wow, you really talked to some interesting people! You should enter your film to BIGSTAR online film festival, you could win 50,000 dollars, you can even submit it from china!

  • 这个小老外有点意思,this little hornkey girl suddenly take out a pad on the street, haha

  • Ehm no.. Calling you smart is calling a cow smart as well, that's true.

  • Simplicity+kindness=Chinese people.

  • Smacker!!

  • wow, this host is pointedly condescending to the chinese. many foreigners in china trying to speak chinese much less find chinese names for themselves end up with even more laughable results than those showcased in this video.

  • zhen bucuo ah. nide zhongwen shuode feichang hao!

  • hheeehh hen hao de, ni tai hao le

  • Samanfar......lol

  • Someone in my friends english class (he's teaching hangzhou)) came up with "rapist" apparently because in some terribly translated dictionary it meant "strong, assertive man"....

    lol

  • I'm so not into the Beijing accent 難聽得讓我要吐, the Taiwanese one is far cooler, so glad I learnt Chinese here otherwise I'd sound like you..ps 繁體字 ftw!!!

  • your american accent is so strong when you speak in chinese

  • I like to watch your video

  • lol

  • smacker LOL

  • This is so LOL. I like the beginning. Goes to my facebook! :)

  • hi sufei i hope to take your attention it sound a bit funny but anyway ........ i know you for a year i last watch all of you video but i did not have the courage to ask you directly so........could you add me so we could be friend forever Amen.

  • @vidsofFranklin1 lolwut? watch a show that's already free an online on your website? sure.

  • @luismex991 Ehm.. What does that supposed to mean.. -__- You taiwanese are Chinese too, so don't try to diss out the mainlanders on choosing out English names. My English name is Michell, but I like my Chinese one more :) I like Smacker and Angelina (a)

  • @FarewelI Calling Taiwanese Chinese is akin to calling Americans English.

  • @cherylwens Some would argue it's akin to calling Puerto Ricans American.

  • Well, English name is just something for people to remember you easier. Sufei, just relax! By the way, my english name is Zorro. hahaha

  • Well, I am Chinese,

and its true that more and more of us are getting english names. I can't really tell the reason, but the meaning doesn't mean the most, how it sounds like is what we concern about. haha. :) I am actually very glad that there are mostly positive comments about chinese down there :) Yeah, interesting video, more people should get to know us, and we will be able to know more about you guys too. PEACE :)

  • Do English speakers just swoop in and make sarcastic remarks about anything that is different with where they come from?

  • @firstforlast unfortunately, many of those that take a disproportionate amount of their time to actually sit down and make comments do.

  • HAHAHAHA, Lol

When I was in Beijing I used to teach Spanish...

Most popular names: Tommy and Candy

Names for boys: Banana, Customer, Computer, Cars, Hat.

Names for girls: Apple, Bunny, Rabbit, Cissy, Strawberry, Candy, Moon, Music.

  • @Choumuk i live in Taiwan, and here they also speak Chinese but ppl are more intelligent when it gets to chose their own English name

    poor Chinese ppl :s

  • Lol Samanfar...ahh best video ever.

  • I absolutely love 'Smacker' lol! She looks like a Smackers (somehow)

I was honoured to name a young lady 'Erica' and may I say I rule at giving english names. She totally looked like an Erica.

'Justin' was spoken more like 'Xia Qin' but somehow became 'Da Shu'.

So yeah.. they like having a western name but we get our chinese name too.

    Its fun.

Oh.. and they may not be able to pronounce multi-syllabic Jewish names but don't feel alone - they can't pronounce my norwegian name either hehe

  • lol~ very funny~ i laughed so hard and fell off my chair~ keep it coming~ this definitely is one of the delights I discovered on youtube~ ^^

  • Comment removed
