This is just a lag error Bungie probably fixed in Reach. It has happened to me many times and your armor changes back to your original armor after the connection has been fixed. THIS IS NOT A GLITCH

Toward anyone saying you need 1000 achievement points that is untrue, at least since the added achievements, the armor goes by number of achievements unlocked, I only had 850 gamerscore at the time I unlocked the armor, but I had just gotten my 49th achievement, there were only 49 orignal achievements so you dont have to have 1000 points since they added more.
