  • The "hissing" sound is a sign for ANYONE to stay the hell away. We learned that if you hear of a possible BLEVE, you just get the hell out.

  • And the bane of every photographer, right at 6:28, someone stops in between the camera and the fire.

  • @pjharr....wow....you really think a fire extinguisher will do ANYTHING to this fire. Looked like some good 2 1/2 work to me

  • This part is the best part of firefighting. the part you didn't show was the hours of overhaul after the fire was extinguished

  • you can here that tank boilin before it goes off nice video

  • GREAT STOP GUYS and EXCELLENT VIDEO,thank you...

  • 1:35. I think the FF running in the background fell on his ass. Right behind the guy with the radio. lol

  • good save boys

  • 0:41 Explosion slings piece out of garage hitting unknown object

  • Deuce 1/2 attack?

  • Hey BFD- NICE job on rapid control of the fire and preventing extension to the house. It's nice to watch professionals do their job. One question: did the FF's who made the initial attack know there had been a BLEVE?

  • gotta love the guy scratching his ass at 1:35

  • probably because a extinguisher wouldn't do jack against a fully involved floor to ceiling structure fire, and had some one approached to put it out they would have gotten hit by that explosion. that's why you wait for water.

  • nice job, good knockdown

  • I was impressed with this video. From the time the first engine arrived on scene, the crew hopped out went into action. It looks very organized, everyone knew what to do, where to go, and so on. Very few FF's standing around, packed up, just staring at the fire, waiting to be told what to do. The interior attack was amazing, they did everything the right way, it almost looked effortless. The fire was under control in minutes, because it was organized that way. GOOD JOB, I learned alot.

  • Great job knockin it down boys, bravo!

  • Great job to all the firefighters involved

  • This video to me contrasts the differences between old construction and new.

IMHO, if that fire had been blazing in a modern house it would of spread much further and done much more damage. It's really amazing to see that garage blazing like that and yet it's containing the fire.

  • Good stop on it.

  • if you had time to take a video of it, why didnt you grab an extinguisher and help put it out before the fd came?

  • @pjharr... this video was taken by someone riding with the first chief on scene and the first engine and truck were less then a minute behind.

  • @pjharr it would take alot more than just an extinguisher to put that out

  • @pjharr I could name a few simple reasons. That fire is way too hot to get anywhere near without turnout gear. An extinguisher would barely dent that fire, and what would have happened if he was standing close when that tank blew?

  • @pjharr It would have been an unbelievably bad idea to approach that fire with or without turnout gear while that tank prepared to blow. If someone was near that bleve they could have been killed. When you hear a tank start to vent like that you dont walk toward it. Think before you speak.

  • @pjharr yea because a fire extinguisher would put that out.

  • @pjharr

ha i doubt an extinguisher would have any significant effect on that.

  • @pjharr listen boss, a fire extinguisher wouldn't put thaat out. You are going to need a good old fashion engine and a hose.

  • @pjharr

Because a fire extinguisher wouldn't put a dent in that fire professor and it's a good way to get yourself killed.

  • @pjharr.......You are an idiot, like a fire extinguisher would do anything but get someone hurt. You must not know anything about firefighting or if you are one then you need to quit before you kill someone!!!!!! IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @pjharr If the fire was that large when the recording stopped, it was too much for an extinguisher and would have been too hot to get close enough to use it besides.

This is how you knock down a fire. Good job.

  • @pjharr If the fire was that large when the recording started, it was too much for an extinguisher and would have been too hot to get close enough to use it besides.

This is how you knock down a fire. Good job.

  • @pjharr HAHAHAHA Yeah great idea, hey you go try to put out the fire with an extinguisher so I can laugh at you and call you stupid. LOL some people. You can't fix stupid.

  • @pjharr Yea, ummm...an extinguisher is not going to do much help there.

  • @pjharr Because that would be a stupid thing to do if you can hear the propane leaking that loudly? If you're not trained to handle that kind of situation, don't do it.

  • @pjharr :41, thats y, if ur not a firefighter, and ur dealing with a fire that big, dont even go near it!

  • @pjharr ya we will just throw some one next to that fire with no bunkers on and hand them a fire extinguisher and say go put it out so the next house fire you see you can take a fire extinguisher in there and save the day

  • @pjharr...plus it's advised to not get that close on a fire that's so intense because you don't know if there are tanks or other explosives inside...so that's why you always just call 911...

  • @pjharr

a single household size fire extinguisher would have done little for a fire that large. it would be unsafe to approach a fire like that without protective equipment; gasoline, propane and other flammables (often kept in garages) could have easily exploded and injured anyone in the vicinity of that garage.

  • @pjharr From what I could see the situation was not worth putting civilians with fire extinguishers in danger. The fire engines were coming and they controlled this fire with right equipment in a matter of time.

  • Good stop!!!! How about those legs at 5:15 !

  • Stupid people deep frying turkies.....hahahahahaha

  • @FIREF107 well im a family friend it was a party going on and they do it every year in the garage this year an accident happend they have been deep frying the turkies for years

  • ha thats also my bday

  • wtf is with people standing in front of the camera?

  • what a fucking moron

  • did the fire make extention to the home?

  • no the fire did not extend to the house

  • Great video. I like when the LP tank went up. Just proves that an LP tank can BLEVE. Had a Firefighter on another video of a camper fire tell me if the valve is working it won't bleve. This proves him wrong. Thanks.

  • any pressurized flamable liquid container can bleve

  • any pressurized flammable liquid container can BLEVE, the only thing the relief valve does is buy you some time to cool it down before it does.

  • it doesnt have to be flammable to bleve. if it is a closed pressurized container it can bleve. things bleve because the pressure inside of it builds up to the point that the container cannot handle it anymore and there for it causes a bleve.

  • They did a nice knockdown on this fire. Great video too.

  • Awesome!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!

  • What on Earth (aside from a compressed gas cylinder) was stored in that garage that fueled such a fire? o.O

  • The idiot was trying to deep fry a turkey in his garage.

  • Have you ever looked in youre garage? You know about all that shit you collect over the years then :)

  • thank you for not being one of those departments that put the stick up for a 1 or 2 story job.

  • Ground ladders work fine and are quicker to deploy. Thanks for the comment

  • there was no need for it, there was no extension to the house

  • Comment removed

  • yea you could not tell if there was extension or not without checking but in this case there was no need for the stick to be put up. if there was a need it would have been considered

  • New perspective. Any firefighter knows when a working fire like this comes out, your going to be there a while. Tim the truck operator may simply just have wanted to do something rather than stand around with his hands in his suspenders. And, on another hand, it may be they're SOP or SOG's in they're fire department to put the stick up on working fires.

  • They did check for extension, what you dont see here is the crews inside the home on the second floor checking for extension. Theres no need to put a stick up on a garage fire

  • Hope they are masked up!

  • Yes they are masked up as you can see in the video!

  • I was at the fire also. It was really scary to watch.

  • its brian y, this is up my block on ames

  • i was there when teaneck dispatched for the metual aid saying reported house explosion i was out the door and got there pretty quick

  • Great video and great save by the fire department. One question was there an emt at around (4:58) asking if someone had a heart attack? What happened? Great job by all.

  • Hey there was one minor injury that was treated and transported to a local hospital but I believe the person was released. Other than that there were no heart attacks thank god. Our ambulance corps responded for rehab as is always for working structure fires here. They do a great job with it and our members don't complain. Thanks for the comment

  • Great video & a great job by the BFD. You must work hard at training, it really shows!

  • damn you got there fast! nice video, we had a abandoned warehouse fire yesterday and a cople brush fires on saturday and friday

  • God was with us that day. He didn't want our easter to be ruined. We still a wonderful dinner with our family and friends and we were lucky enough to tell the story and lagh about it.

  • thats ur house?

  • If god was with you why did he let your house catch fire?? Thank the skilled firefighters.

  • great video. i love chief byrnes in his nice clothes so calm just walkin around with his radio. haha

    tim

  • Man, this Stunned the Heck out of me...I was just there 20 mins. prior to happening then to return and see the remnants blew my mind but by the grace of God no one was badly hurt and we continued w/our Easter festivities. It was a great ending to an not so pleasant beginning..Pops get better soon. The Garage will be renovated, then the BBQ to celebrate...Yeap.
