@bombertheelephant I think beer in general is "rubbish", but especially american beer simply for the fact that americans seem to have this idea that beer should all be lagers that taste like piss. While I can't stand any beer, the least horrid I've found was Guinness (good ole irish stout)

The beer they are drinking is trash, but there are a lot of great beers in brewed in America, just don't buy the big name labels. Try dogfish head, Rogue or Victory (just to name a few). Every country has trash beers. I know, I professionally review beers from all over the world, I've tasted them. When you look at the micro breweries, America actually has some of the greatest beers int he world.

i don't really like the taste of any beer i've tried (even tried a malt flavored soda that still had that aweful beer taste). I've tried several american lagers, Asahi (japanese), Tiger Beer (singapore, lager i think), guiness, killians irish red, and an oatmeal stout that i don't remember the name of. all were aweful, butthe best of the bad was guinness, followed by the oatmeal. u know of anyone that makes mead or a less bitter kind of beer?

Like I said, there are a lot of good micro breweries, but there are a lot of bad ones as well. It all depends on personal taste and the type of beer you like. Southern Tier makes a very good mocha stout. It's not American, but I am a big fan of Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout. The breweries I mentioned before, Dogfish head, Victory and Rogue are generally classified as extreme beers and a lot of them go for more hops. I personally don't mind the bitters so it might not be the right choice for you.

i'll try that mocha if I get a chance. i'd also like to try a cream stout if i can find some. I read that it was once popular in britain as a sort of healthy, nourishing beer, along with the likes of the oatmeal stout (I think it was basically like a breakfast in a bottle). I'd be interested in trying my hand at brewing my own so that I can tailor it to my taste

You might try Left Hand Milk Stout, it's similar to a cream stout. Brewing can be very difficult, I've wanted to try myself but something has always been in the way. I hope you do try and good luck to you.
