This is such a great scene. Another underrated Walt quote is a few episodes later when Hank is asking him about his bruised face, and Walt tells him flat-out, "I'm through explaining myself". So chilling.
lol I wish every cancer patient who goes on a reality program to act like they've been enlightened by their experience was shown this clip. From the onset, Breaking Bad takes that cliched crap and kicks its melanoma-ridden ass.
I like this scene because it reveals just how twisted, delusional, and controlling Walt has become. Everything that's gone wrong in his life since season 1 is an indirect result in this shift in his philosophy.
@TheLeoOfCostaRica It depends on how you see it though. I agree in terms of the events going on during this point of the show but since the beginning Walt has been all about resisting his fate. The drug, Krazy 8, turning down assistance from Elliot and Gretchen, meeting Tuco, all of it shows him resisting the will of another. He didn't view Gus as a problem until he realized what scale he was working on after Hank's attack. Season 4 was getting out from under Gus's thumb.
I only agree with half of the quote. You should live life on your own terms but nobody can control every variable in their life, I guess the best explanation for what I mean is that you should always strive to channel the flow rather control it entirely
@xxSpearMonkeyxx I disagree. Maybe it is not possible to control life entirely; however, its not a matter of if its possible or not possible. You try to take control anyway even when you see that you cant. Its called preservation and without it Walter would have died a LONG time ago
Well I agree entirely with your point about preservation, it is one of the most primal instincts of all life forms. What I mean about "channel the flow" is pretty much exactly what you are saying, but I can see how my language may be confusing so I'll put it in different terms. "You can not control what happens to you, but you can control what you do about it"
C'mon guys, "stay out of my territory" is the greatest line in breaking bad. Not so much the actual words but the delivery, I've watched it about 60 times and still get goosebumps.
@jdrhjr you're the first one to suggest another quote, but I agree with you. I think that one is pretty damn good, it also represents who he is very well ... hard to say which is better though!
Walt is lying to this poor man. As he goes to work after this scene. At this point Walt is pretty much being forced to continue working for Gus. But Walt's 'Live by your own Terms' eventually comes true by the end of the season ;D
I hope that Walt starts cooking meth again in the next season.. something wrong happens.. and he cures himself. Walt finds the cure for cancer, would be the ultimate ending for this show! lol
Walt dying as a cancer riddled, twisted, fucked up and uncaring criminal with only his own power of interest to him and nothing to leave to his family would make the best ending to the show.
Would make the metamorphosis of his character into Heisenburg complete and end his story perfectly in my opinion.
@TheSoldier0fortunE maybe he has nothing to leave them, but they already have the business. so, he can retire from cooking methamphetamine, and maybe even go back to teaching chemistry.
Hollywood "happy day!" ending wouldnt work, no. the show has to end with his death. The Rise and Fall of Walter White is what I call the show, really. because his rise will have to end. too many loose ends from the 4th season are in the air. FBI has an eye on Jesse, I'm certain Gus had the video footage from the meth labs on file, DEA, Mike is still alive, and the company that OWNS Gus' operations (both legal and otherwise) probably wont take too kindly to Gus' death.
Honestly, this line isn't supposed to represent Walt being strong. It's supposed to show how much of a control freak he is. He wants to be in charge and he will do anything to stay in charge.
@nothere413 It is supposed to represent something he could have followed to avoid being "nothing." Remember when he had a million dollar idea and someone stole it. He could have prevented that if he had more control over it, but he didn't know. Now, he knows how cautious one must be.
Thank you for ruining my belief that everyone on youtube is a clueless, braindead idiot you fucker. I was quite happy believing that, now i have to rethink everything.
Walter is going to die in series 5 but I think that Walt Junior or Skyler are also going to die in season 5. I think the key player in series 5 will be Mike who is sitll firends with Jesse and owes him for saving his life in Mexico when Gus would have left him behind. He will be the one with the wholesale contacts for Walter to shift his meth to a the syndicate that Gus was apart of. Hank will close in on Walter but how that will end is anyones guess.
Season 5 will be about the rise of Heisenburg. Hank will close in on Walter and Jesse will find out about Jane and Brock. He will leave Walter and the business. Hank will put together the pieces and will question Walter in his home. Walter will then try to escape but Hank will restrain him. Out of nowhere Jesse shoots and kills Hank and will say something corny as he gets his revenge for the beating.Jesse forgives Walter and Walter retires from Meth. Jesse rises as the new Heisenburg.right guys?
Season 5 will base around the chase between Walter and Hank. The will not expand or change, it will centralize. Walter has taken over the roll of the villain through his transformation through out the series. Now we need to see the fall out where good triumphs over evil, and Hank somehow catches Walter. My guess, this just being a guess, is that Hank will catch Walter but before being able to arrest him, he will succumb to his cancer.
@obrienjack100 I don't see it. Good doesn't always triumph over evil. It will attempt to, that much is certain. My guess is there will be a clash between the two, though I assume Walt will go full on evil and kill Hank in cold blood. I hope it doesn't come to that, but for him to evolve into a cold blooded killer, like the writers want him to, then, yeah, that'll most like like happen. But I dunno, we'll have to wait and see .. and boy, is that hard since we're close to the end
@monteije what yours12342 said, only with the words inscribed on a parchment banner and held aloft by two cherubs ; one with Walt's head and one with Jesse's
@simpsonment1 Yeah and as you might notice, in season 3, the cancer thing got into the background somehow.
With this scene, they're bringing it back. And you might have noticed that Walt has been coughing a lot lately (season 4). It's coming to an end. He's gonna die in season 5 and that's the show's finale.
@SuperGregSA My guess for saeson 5 is: Jesse finds out about Walt's actions (Jane, Brock, ...) and Hank continues searching for Heisenberg.
But check it out on the internet: Vince Gilligan stated that season 5 will be the last one. That's what he always wanted although AMC wanted more seasons.
And Hank turning corrupt is completely impossible, in my opinion; he's the only character who never broke bad. But yes: fight between Jesse and Walt, I guess.
You have to watch this scene in context. Walter White boast how he is in control but he is anything but. Gus is trying to kill him, his losing his grip on Jesse and Skylar has become even more antagonizing.
dat other man has nearly da same voice as Gus ! thumbs up if u agree !

Best thing about this scene is realizing how completely full of shit Walt is.
For the best part of the last two seasons, Gus owned him. If there's one thing he didn't have, it was control.
